It is program dependent. Just get a quadcore intel as fast as you can afford and don't worry about it any more.

Here is a simple cheesy trick :) . Set your camera to MF and intentionally mis-focus, then take a picture of the tree. The more lights on the tree, the better the result. |

Yes, it is.
Notice that he was using the 2 seconds timer, which, as someone already stated, automatically disables SR.

I have the white K-m. I bought it in June and so far it is not showing any signs of discoloration or smudges.

Yeah, that is the best way. And don't forget you can use shutter half-press to turn even the review screen off.

Are we still talking about a stock K2000 (no aftermarket focusing screen etc...)? The AF is accurate and fast. I really doubt one could consistently match it's performance when MF'ing.

Try to get the FA version, otherwise you'll miss autofocus. Manual focus kinda sucks.

It's called flickr and it strips the data mercilessly to save bandwidth. :)
Anyways, from looking at the data, a simple change of the Auto ISO setting to allow maximum ISO higher than 400 (800 at least) would help you a lot in low light.

Tough questions, because I do not have a black one to compare. Neither do I have any longer black lenses (the kit lenses were white, too), the one in the picture is a FA50, which is pretty compact.
My personal opinion is that it looks good with black lenses, but a bit odd with the white ones. It's almost like a toy camera.
As for candid shots, my experience is that people generally don't care. The camera looks very non-threatening. At least I have never been aproached by anyone. Aside from the white body, a big reason for that might be that I never use a lens hood and most of the time I look like a slightly confused tourist just passing by. Camera in one hand, snack/cell phone/map/book/bag in the other.
The most important factor for me is that *I* like the white color. That means I enjoy picking the camera up, taking it everywhere with me and using it. I always look forward to using it. I know this might sound a bit stupid, but it definitely forced me to take lots of pictures and learn quite a lot about photography. :)

Wear that Pentax strap and wear it proud! :)
I do, except it's wrapped around my wrist.
It seems a bit small to be used as a neck strap, unless of course the wearer is a tiny japanese woman. :)

I almost always boost the contrast, but I actually like the colors ever so slightly desatured most of the time.
So, ideal for me.

Ballon glow is an event where the balloon owners inflate their ballons at night. The flames make the ballons glow in the dark. It's an amazing thing to watch.

Focus+recompose works for me. I usually try to focus on the area between the nose and the eye, I dunno why, but it works most of the time.
Subject has to be steady tho. With moving subjects it's always a gamble.

Thanks. There are two major things I do that make the subjects stand out.
1) The shooting phase:
I almost always use as large aperture as possible to get shallow depth of field. I also try to get close to the subjects, but leave enough distance between them and the background for that nice out-of-focus blur.
2) Post-processing.
I shoot raw and load the files in Rawtherapee afterwards. Then I manipulate the curves tool and changed the straight line to an S-shaped one, which increases contrast and saturation.
Then I check the shadows/highlights warning and if I see some areas that are too dark or too bright, I use the shadow and highlight compensation to bring them back. I like the shadows at about 4-5, anymore and they start looking unnatural to me. I guess I like dark shadows. Highlights I usually pull back a lot more, the slider usually ends up somewhere around 50-60.
The basic settings look like this:
I rarely adjust other values in the topmost part of the menu.
Then I quickly go over the other tabs, usually to desaturate the colors a bit and tweak the white balance if needed.

It was probably too dark inside for the camera to focus, that's why it used the flash as a focus assist light before taking a shot.

A Star Wars parody would make a great ad for the K-x. Imagine Vader on a vacation with a black K-x, accompanied by a group of Stormtroopers with all white ones, Chewbacca with a brown one, Leya with a pink one etc... they could be walking around taking pictures and then run into each other. :)

All these things mean that you can mount a small prime/pancake and carry the camera with you pretty much all the time. Where else can you get a 50mm F1.4 stabilised APS-C P&S? Such a combo comfortably beats even the micro 4/3 format offerings and you don't have to worry about m4/3 lens adapters. You even get a video recording.
For an experienced photographer, it would make a great second camera. And you don't have to buy a red one if you don't want to. They still offer a black one.

I have been thinking about a custom remote, just an IR led, on-off switch and a larger battery. This is obviously assuming that the remote doesn't send any codes. Does anybody know whether this is the case or not?

Furthermore, K-x should show focus point indicators on the LCD. You just don't see them in the viewfinder.

I really hope so. I waited 2 months for my white K-m, I don't mind waiting another 2 for a bright yellow/olive gree/brown/silver K-x.
Yeah, I actually like the brown ones, too. They look kinda classy.
As classy as a colored plastic camera can... :)
