Wow, no learning curve for you on that one huh? Pinpoint perfect focus. Awesome composition. The perspective is dead on for how that shot should have been, well, shot lol. I really like it.
The only thing that detracts a bit to me is the watermark, which I understand why you placed it, but just kinda distracts me a bit. Maybe if you just had your name without the year and the copyright symbol that would help. It would probably look better if you scanned your signature into your computer and used that as a watermark. Would add to the authentic/very old feel to the work.

Thanks for the comment Cupic.
I do want to add that the reason I did no PP is that I do not feel any was necessary. To me at least this was a case of picture perfect straight out of the camera.
Do you agree? Disagree? Why?

I like this shot. Only thing I may have done differently is to narrow the aperture a bit to get a longer DOF. You can see that mid-beak is where you/the camera caught focus on. The eyes are a bit out of the DOF and are blurred slightly. Narrowing the aperture a tad would have included the eyes in the focus and would have given the picture a crisper feel.
Composition is pleasing to me.
Only other complaint, mild as it may be is the stick/whatever the light thing that crosses the background is. I would try to spot darken/desaturate that a bit to tone it down.
Nice shot though. Very cool looking bird.

Dont worry about getting everything in with a Fish, trust me, you can get it all. Just stand a bit taller and tilt the camera down a bit. Not so much sky will give you more of the foreground that you want to add. I like to stand in front of objects and point the camera straight forward and even with tall objects can usually get all of it without seeming awkward.

Maybe you could take a little bit off the bottom to give it a squarer feel, but I dont feel that any on the sides should be removed. Doing so seems to take away from the visual story being told (reflection in a mud puddle).
I like it how it is as far as placement/rotation aspect.
Good idea and concept.

I like the feel of them, but there seems to be a bit of a haze/greyish tint to them that doesnt sit right to my eyes. Maybe try clearing that up a bit, but otherwise nice series. Looks like something you would see in a magazine.

To me, and this is just a personal observation, the image was taken at too low of a level. Maybe try it with a taller tripod / manlift of some kind. I think for this to work how I think you are shooting for you need to be centered on the building both left/right and up/down. It looks kinda awkward looking up to it with a fisheye.
Gotta love that fisheye lens though!

Your second posting was much better, but I like the third crop that you posted. Do you see how the center of the flower loses power over the rest of the photo? It adds contrast like DB stated in his first shot, but it doesnt distract. Cropped way out leaves a bit too much background, causing the eye to wander around the image quite a bit. The third crop forces your eye to follow from one flower to the other and with that simple action you are able to take in all that the picture has to offer.

Agreed with the others here. Removing the colors of the background only slightly muted the distraction. Try leaving the color in, slightly desaturated. Then do a blur, or simulated DOF in photoshop/etc and bring the focus on the birds where it should be. I think other than the background it is a pretty good shot. Focus looks dead on.
One last side note, 1600 ISO w1/4000 shutter speed? Are you using Green mode? I would have tried something like 400/800 ISO, aperture a bit larger than 8 to remove some DOF (not much tho, maybe a 5.6?) and shutter speed around 1/2000 to capture the bird in flight.
Play around with manual. Its fun to make black pictures, then white pictures until you figure out what the heck you are doing and start learing to meter before bringing the camera to your eye.

Might be that this is a 100% crop, or the resizing software added noise, but it looks like you missed the focus by just a tad.
Composition looks pretty good to me as is exposure/lighting/content.
If you can get the noise removed it may look pretty nice. You could even try to make the dimensions smaller to reduce the visible noise. Its one of those shots that works pretty good smaller too. Not all shot have to be huge to be good.

If I was taking that shot I would have changed this:
Lower ISO Probably 400ish range if it was that dark in the space
Opened aperture to a significantly smaller # (like the 5 range?)
Tried to keep the shutter speed around the 1/10th mark (I am comfortable shooting 1/6 or even slower but the faster the less chance of blurring, which I see a bit of in your shot)
Saw you mentioned tripod after writing this so here is my edited advice:
Drop ISO WAAAAAAAy down: 100 or 200
Aperture at the lenses good spot (generally in the 8-11 range)
shutter speed at whatever it takes to get the exposure right (15 second shots can give some great results)
Even without a shutter release button, you can take 30 second shots. Thats enough to brighten a dark city at night time. Surely enough for a rose in a dimly lit room.
Keep playing with it, try my advice, adjust as necessary and post another go. You can only get better by trying!

To me it was too bright. Like DB said, this could be due to the conversion. Everything is just sooo................. bright it is hard to tell one thing from another. Try doing another type of conversion and see if you can get some more contrast in there.
I think the DOF is fine, at least for me, but agree with the background being too sharply focused to be considered blur.

Agree with icywarm while adding this:
I think even if you had used a smaller aperture to get a bit more DOF that would have helped. Not small enough to get feet in depth, just a few more inches so the entire web was in focus, while leaving the rest blurred, probably would have made the shot a bit better.
I do like it though. Great idea.

Taken with a camera phone I have to say its a pretty decent shot.
Like DB said, the blown highlights and the tall building in the center "taking center stage" kinda makes you not want to look around the shot. When you finally do there doesnt seem to be much 'content' there for lack of a better term. I think either avoiding the taller building, or trying to get a wider view w/ a little more of the sky would limit the center weighted distraction.
Pretty nice view though, and i'm not really a city person.

Sorry for the harshness but it doesnt really work for me. Maybe if you could give us an idea of what you were envisioning when you took this it might help me get into your frame of mind and get a better perspective of it.

Agree with Ash. The focus is hard to see through to the actual content of the shot. The composition looks pretty nice. Lighting is definately not defining for the subject.

I took this show while walking around Las Vegas as dusk. It was nearing dark, shot was taken handheld, no framing or advanced composition consideration was taken, just a quick glance saw a good photo op. There is absolutely NO photoshopping done to this picture. I only shrunk the image to fit the screen better (30% of original size) NOTHING else was done to this photo.
This is one I am proud of having taken!
What do you think?

Just got back from Vegas, didnt win anything but a case of Hemorrhoids! Maybe I could win this and have won something cool! Worth it? Sounds like it is to me!
