Thanks for all the responses. I'm still mulling it over. It seems I change my mind every few hours. I think at this point if I can find the limited at a reasonable price I may get that otherwise I'll be happy to get the 2.4.

Pentax DA 35mm f2.4 vs Pentax 35mm 2.8 macro

I'm in the market for a 35mm lens and have been going back and forth between buying the 35 f2.4 or the 35 f2.8 macro. I know there is a big difference in price and while that is a concern it is not my primary. I can afford the f2.8. My concern is the quality of the pictures. Is there a big difference between the pictures that are taken with the lenses. I know the limited is a better build that the f2.4 but both have gotten good user reviews on this site. I would mainly be using the lens as a walk around/portrait lens. I am not too interested in the macro capabilities since I already have a DA 100mm. What concerns me most about the f2.4 is that it says it is for beginners and I consider myself past that stage so I want the best 35mm there is but don't want to break the bank unless I have too. So if you had the choice, which would you get?

Macro Grey Tree Frog. Which Crop?

That's exactly what bothers me about the second one. It's less noticeable on the first which is why I think I like that one better. Thanks for the reply.

So I have been told by a few people that the lower out of focus leg on the first picture can be distracting. I like it because it has tells a slight "story" by making it look like the frog is really hanging in there. I also like the first one for it's detail. I can't decide which is "better". What are your thoughts? Any other critique or suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Help with a Metz 48 AF-1

So I recently got a Metz 48 AF-1 on ebay. It did not come with instructions. When I do a web search for instructions it brings me to a web site that requires me to take surveys in order to get the instructions. (Its a little fishy so I am wary of doing that)
My problem is that the flash seems to be stuck on one setting: SL ch1 zoom 18mm. I can't change it to any other setting.
Does anyone have any suggestions for changing the settings and does anyone know where I can get a copy of the English instructions?
I'm using a Pentax K5. Thanks for any help.

Fisheye ?

What grabbed me was the versatility of the pictures. Some had obvious fishiness and other not so much. That is what made me decide to wait for the DA 10-17mm. The colors are wonderful but were not in my reason for waiting.

Well after seeing MikeSF's photos with the DA 10-17mm I think I'm going to save some extra money and get that. I didn't realize it was so versatile. Wonderful pic Mike. Thanks everyone for your opinions.

Fisheye ?

I was wondering if any one out there has any experience with either of the following lenses? The SMC Pentax Fish-Eye 17mm 1:4 by Asahi or the Bower 8mm Wide Angle Fisheye Lens. I have always wanted a fisheye both the Pentax DA 10-17mm is out of my price range. I have found the other two closer to what I can afford and both close enough in price that it won't sway my preference (the Asahi is a little cheaper). Does anyone have any experience with either of these. I will be shooting with my K5. Thanks in advance for you help.

Thanks. I feel like such an idiot. I had it in M but I forgot about the front dial. I just recently switched to the K5 from the K100D. A big jump and I'm still getting used to all the extra buttons and features. Thanks for being kind to an idiot.

I'm sure this is a dumb question and has been asked several times but here it goes. I have a Pentax K5 and an Asahi SMC Pentax-M 1:1.7 50mm lens. I know how to set the aperture but I can't seem to set the shutter speed. The only time it changes is when I push the green button. Is there a way to change it manually? Thanks for your help.

I can't answer your question about the Nikon vs the Pentax but I did want to comment on your ebay problems. I'm not sure how you do your bidding on ebay but one strategy that I have found that really works for me is to wait until the last few seconds before placing your bid. Put your max bid in the box and wait until the last 20-30 seconds to confirm your bid. This really help me swoop in at the last minute and get the item I want. Now you can never beat someone who is willing to spend more that you, but this might give you and edge in the bidding process. If you do this already then I don't really know what to tell you other than try bidding higher;) Hope this helps and good luck.

Firmware update problems

Hi All,
I have searched the internet and have tried all suggestions I could find. I have followed the direction to the firmware update for the K 5 and it still will not update. I have a full battery, downloaded the mac version (I'm on a macbook pro), have put it on a reformatted sd card (not in the DCIM folder) have ejected the card and turn the K5 on both while holding and not holding the menu button down and nothing happens. Any suggestions to what I am doing wrong and maybe a different way to do it.
Thanks
Steve

Need a new Pentax Camera

I have to ask, what 'advanced features' do you want? I could have chosen any Pentax DSLR when I recently switched to Pentax, but chose the K200D because of the vast features and capabilities in a low price. That being said, the K7 is on my radar once the price drops from MSRP. Your K100D is very capable.

Unless there is something you need (more resolution for large prints, SDM, weather sealing), you may not be using your money wisely. Unfortunately buying a new camera isn't going to improve the photos a great deal. Learning how to maximize what you have is the best solution and taking a look at your lenses is probably the next best. IMO lenses are much more important the body.

I have new Pentax 100mm f/2.8 macro lens as well as the Tamron 75-300 tele/macro and the 18-55mm lens that came with the K100D. I feel that the K100D is a beginners SLR and that the newer SLR's from Pentax will give me better features and pictures especially with the macro lens. I also want something with more battery life and a few more "professional" features. I was looking at the K20 before I posted and I think I'm going to go ahead with that one when I get together the cash. It might go down a little more in price soon now that the K7 is out. I looked into the K7 but that is too much at this point and I don't want to wait a year for the price drop. I'm thinking of starting my own business and I would like a more advanced camera that is affordable. The K20 seems to fit the bill. I like the K10 too but the 20 seems slightly better. I still have to go to a shop and get a better feel for them.
Thanks for all the replies.

Need a new Pentax Camera

Hi I'm new here to the forum. It seems like a great site. I am currently the owner of a K100D and I would like to upgrade. I want to stick with Pentax since I've been shooting with them for a while. My first film SLR was a Pentax ZX-7. That being said I would like some advice on what one to get next. I would like one that is for more advanced users. The K100D was great but it is a beginner SLR and I fell my skills have improved enough to go to a more advanced camera. The K-7 looks good but I don't want to break the bank. Can anyone suggest a Pentax that is for more advanced users but not insanely expensive (under a grand)? Any help would be appreciated.
Steve
