Forum: Pentax K-5 & K-5 II

I have similar problem with my k-5 and my Sigma 30mm 1.4, Pentax 43mm 1.9, 35mm 2.0 and 77mm 1.8. LV AF is accurate but I can't use it for certain situations (e.g running kids)
most of my Christmas dinner photos were just wasted.. and I don't have this problem with my K20D..
Should I ask for an exchange, or refund (and take the 15% RMA penalty from vendor) or wait for a firmware bug fix ?
Regards,
Vincent

Fat used to use many large/medium format film incl. Pentax 6x7II for b&w. I think this is his first digital. He says a lot of good things about the 645D during the interview and kinda do Pentax a free promotion.
You can find some of his photos here ÖÜÈó·¢.ÉãÓ°_milk_POCOÍø(POCO.CN)_ÎÒµÄÕÕƬÎҵĿռä BOOK ????????Moving Pictures?
Btw Fat's sister is also a professional photographer and dedicated in natural, esp. in dragonfly.

If you think K-5 is bad, look at the Olympus E-5..it took Olympus 4 yrs for such a minor upgrade.
Big players like C/N/S have a much deeper pocket to invest in R&D and try out new tech (like Sony A55)...
Let's hope K-r and K-5 will be a success like K-x

I just want to video my toddler (14 months old girl) and it is much easier to have one device (DSLR) that can do both good photo and video with AF.
In the year of 2010, Pentax is the only main player can't do AF in video. C/N/S/Panasonic/Olympus are all offering this function now in part of their products.

I am sorry if I sound like pessimistic, but the "surprises" we see here are only 14 bit RAW and 51200 ISO. 14bit RAW is irrelevant to most users, and there is performance penalty compare with 12 bit. 51200 ISO is just 25600 + 1EV in software.
In the German brochure, my disappointment are no mention of:
-AF in video
-Manual control in video
-F2.8 center sensor as employed by C/N/S many years ago
-Future 1/250s sync speed upgrade
Hopefully Pentax has also looked into the never-admitted shutter induced blur by K-7 and K-x as well

That glass element would very likely reduce the image quality..just like all the FD adapters.
I really hope there EVIL will be K mount and able to re-use all the current Pentax small K-mount lens.

Thanks for all the responses. Imaging Resource has this info for SAFOX IX:
"The SAFOX IX AF module's optics have improved transparency, which should translate to improved performance in low light. The AF module's optics also have better controlled aberration, improving autofocus accuracy. Ambient temperature should also have less of an impact on the SAFOX IX module. Sharp-eyed readers will note that the K-r's SAFOX module lacks the "+" designation of the modules featured in the 645D and K-7, and this hints at one omission in the Pentax K-r's AF system. Where the K-7 and 645D both include a secondary light color sensor dedicated to determining the light source type, which is then taken into account when determining focus, the Pentax K-r lacks this function."
Sounds good to me :)

Does anyone know the different between Safox VIII+ on K-7 and the Safox IX on 645D and upcoming K-R? I think the Safox IX is slightly wider..but any different in terms of speed and accuracy (esp. in low lit or larger aperture like F1.4) ?

More info about the bodies and new lenses from this website ( Published: SEPTEMBER 4, 2010) Photo Rumors
According to it, the K-5 AF system will be "slightly better (incorporating some tweaks developed for 645D)".
Does anyone know the different between SAFOX IX+ (in 645D) and SAFOX VIII+ (in K7) ?
