Pentax SMC FA 50mm/F1,4 to buy or not to buy?

I like it:

You could say it's soft wide open, but the problem wide open is of course to keep everything important in focus.

Now, if you do not care for f1.4, you don't really need it :-)

Kind regards

Pentax K-7 and K-x size comparison

Thank you :-)

It gives me an idea of the size. I would have thought the k-x were a bit smaller.

K7 battery grip

It also balances the camera when using bigger lenses.

I sometimes use it without batteries, just for the better ergonomics. It might look a bit silly with a DA 40mm Ltd on, but it really is much nicer to handle that way.

K-7 with Sigma EF-430 ST flash?

I'm pretty sure this flash is TTL-only. This is not something the K-7 supports.

Pentax K-7 and K-x size comparison

I would like to see some images where the K-x is shown next to the K-7 from various angles.

I have tried google - but I have not found anything (maybe I'm using the wrong search-terms?).

Please link to, or include images if you know of any.

Kind regards

K-7 vs K-x, 500D, D5000, D90 - Why is the K-7 a better camera?

I think for a meaningfull comparison you must remove the money-parameter, and put extra weight on the intended usage-parameter.

The camera is a tool, and for a specific job we use the tool that gives us the best result.

For me, the size of the K-7 along with the Limiteds makes a really great and robust travel-camera.

One weird thing about the K-7 is that it seems to be marketed for extreme outdoor adventures in cold and wet weather. But handling the camera with big warm and weatherproof gloves or mitts is actually not very easy.

Kind regards

K7 or 300s???

The D300s and the K-7 are both very competent cameras. The most limiting factor, will be the user.

My background: I have had the Nikon in my hands, and I own the K-7.

My thoughts
It's pretty hard for me to come to a conclusion, since both camera's are great, but each shine at different areas. I think it all comes down to whether size is important. If you want a small camera with small lenses, then go for the K-7 and a stack of limiteds.

If you are fine with a large camera and lenses, go with the D300s. It's a really great camera. It beats the K-7 when it comes to ergonomics, usability and speed. But it's a small margin.

Kind regards

da 40mm or 70mm for ny?

If you are going to use just one lens, then bring the 40mm:

-Takes up no space.
-You can move pretty close to objects, and still get an image.
-Great angle of view for street photography.

What's the purpose of "Pancake" lenses?

The size and weight is the big plus for pancake-lenses in general.

Speaking of DA Ltd lenses, build quality and optical quality add to the pro's.

For travel or active adventure photography, you could go with a DA15mm on the camera, and a DA70mm in one pocket. In another pocket you could have spare SD-cards and a couple of batteries.

K7 and 10-17mm fisheye zoom

In-camera CA-correction also only works on jpegs, but I don't consider it a real problem, since it's very easy to remove in post, e.g. in Lightroom.

I really recommend the 10-17. It's fun to use, compact, and the build-quality is excellent (metal construction).

Bright Viewfinder, is it the camera or lens plays a part as well?

Both.

A lens with a large aperture will let in more light.

If you have a f2.8 lens, you can easily see the difference by stopping it down, and use the DOF-preview-button.

I suppose the penta-prism or penta-mirror will have some effect as well.

Is the video from the Pentax K-7 optimal for direct ingestion into FCE, or is there any advantages by converting it to an uncrompressed format?

I just bought a new lens, and it does the same. Feels a bit weird, but my guess is that it's perfectly okay. I guess it is just resistance from the weather-seals.

Compact bag for K-7 with 50-135

I'm looking for a nice pistol-type bag for the K-7 with a 50-135mm attached.

The bag has to be faily compact in size, since I will need to place it inside my regular backpack for travel and hiking.

I'm not looking for a camera-backpack, since I will need to bring other stuff than just camera-gear.

I have been looking at the Lowepro 70 AW - any other suggestions?

K-7 BG4 grip made of plastic?

Well, I sure do not find the body-material of the K-7 a meaningless detail...

But the grip is made of plastic. Nobody's going to change that now, and whether it's good or bad does not really make any difference if you already got the K-7.

End of discussion :-)

Well, for the price here in Denmark ($373,-), I would expect only the best.

Time will tell if plastic is good enough :-)

...and I already have the grip, and it's a joy to use btw. The camera balances very nice when using the 50-135, which without the grip (+battery) feels a little front-heavy.

I have just received the batterigrip for my K-7, which is really recommended if you want to hold the camera vertically.

Any way. Is it just me, or is the grip really made of plastic?

Body: 6
Body + 18-55: 10+
Body + 18+55 + 55-200: 3

That's not a lot of camera's....

Something that DSLRs are lacking in this day & age

Some Canon and Nikon DSLR's can be outfitted with wifi.

The Pentax might work with the eyefi SD-card. That could be an option.

Tethered shooting is also an option.

But a 32GB sd-card has the the capacity for a lot of pictures. I don't really see the practical need to hook up an usb- or harddrive.

Kind regards
