Used body or new lens

Definitley take the K20 its a cracking body and brilliant to learn with. I've been resisting upgrading mine for years as I love the weight, ergonomics, build quality and layout.

Have played with a K50 but find it much more plasticy and less user friendly. The K5 is a better than that but i'd still echo others and put your cash on lenses.

I swear by the Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 macro hsm as my kit replacement. Its a little more than the options you are considering bit its a great pairing with the K20 and the xtra reach and close focus makes it a real flexible option.

Poll: How many camera bags / packs do you own?

Is 5 too many? :D

Main bag is my Dakine Mission Photo, big enough for 2 bodies and 4-5 lenses, pretty comfy to lug all day (even with a sigma 100-300 inside) and well padded. But not much room for anything else, sooo I just got a Dakine Sequence from Ebay.

Also have a Crumpler New Delhi 510 which I got as camera/laptop bag for work, and has ended up being just a very expensive laptop bag for work..sigh.

The there's the Crumpler Pretty Boy XL which is handy for K20 + 1 lens trips.

Finally for some reason I have the Kata chest pack thing which is really sturdy but uncomfortable to wear (and makes you look like you are wearing body armour, and gets very odd looks in the English Countryside).

Anti-theft neck straps

I actually got one of these last week for about £12. Basically i bought it for peace of mind on an upcoming trip. Looking at it in real life Im not 100% on the security idea , as although it is reinfored with steel wires it connects to the camera body with non-reinforced connectors. Still I guess it isnt as likely to be slashed off you.

On the otherhand it is one very comfy strap to wear. I recently had the K200d with grip and 55-300 around my neck for a good 5 hours hike and barely noticed it, so on that basis alone Id reccommend it....

Barbed wire woudl indeed be a better anti-theft solution, but it would leave a nasty rash... ;)

Thanks for the advise, I took the plunge and just picked one up for £250 rather than £350 for the Pentax version. Looking forward to checking it out once it arrives...:)

Samsung lenses compatible?

Hi All,

First time posting here and only a few months into my love affair with my K200d, and Im already hankering after a fish eye.

Ive taken a shine to the DA 10-17mm, however I've noticed you can get a Samsung D-Xenon 10-17mm which appears to be the same, in K mount for £100 less.

Are they the same lens? Is there any difference apart from the branding? And is the Samsung fully compatible with the K200d?

Cheers

Jim
