Sorry, i was referring to the PEG, not the PPG. Tomart was concerned that his image wouldn't be allowed in 1x or the PEG because it was a composite.
I guess it's open to interpretation. The rule you are quoting just means (to me) (1) no frames, (2) no borders, and (3) no line drawings. It doesn't say anything about composited photographs. I suppose we should get clarification from someone :)

A large proportion of the pictures on 1x.com are composited, go for it :)
Also, I'm not aware of any rules against composites in the PEG. My own opinion is that as long as it still looks like a photograph then there shouldn't be any problems.

With respect, I'm not sure what you are describing is possible. The DOF at these magnifications would be measured in millimetres. If the background was more than a few inches away then it will be a completely unrecognisable blur, as in Margriet's picture. If you have quick browse through these search results I think you'll have a hard time finding any distinguishable backgrounds.

Unfortunately Margriet there don't seem to be any criteria for becoming a PEG judge. Some of the judges appear to be quite inexperienced photographers. The comment you have quoted above shows that particular judge's apparent lack of experience when it comes to macro photography. Not to mention the insulting little addendum. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the NatGeo judge again. Whoever it is certainly uses the same condescending tone.

It's got nothing to do with your 25" monitor. The photos max out at about 1450x950, at that size they are only about 60% of the width of my 27" monitor.

Looks very good to me. I like how the pictures display at different sizes on different size screens. Photos look great. I would agree there are too many pictures on one page, I would reduce it a lot, perhaps to 3 or 4. I agree the mouseover fade-effect isn't ideal, maybe change it so just the border changes colour. Also perhaps add a tooltip when hovering over an image, so the user knows clicking it will show a description and comments. Colour saturation looks fine to me. Some of the colours (e.g. the flamingo) are exquisite.

Hmm that is odd. I suppose it might be your monitor (or it might be mine :)). If you get a chance maybe login to PentaxForums from someone else's PC and have a look at your owl there. Or if you have a smartphone or tablet try with those?
Edit: actually I've just looked on my phone and it's less purple there (but still quite blue). On the other hand phone screens aren't known for their colour fidelity and cannot be adjusted or calibrated, I would have more faith in my monitor.

Susan won't know how many judges rated (she can count comments, but wont know how many judges rated the pic but left no comments) and she also won't know the lowest and highest scores as they aren't revealed when you receive your judgment.
My own opinion is that it's a good close up of an owl, enhanced by the reflection showing life in captivity. Although I do wonder why the darker feathers are purple?

Both excellent macro lenses, image quality will be almost indistinguishable IMO. However if they are a similar price (taking into account the tamron PKA mount), and assuming the Vivitar has a PKA mount, I would keep the Vivitar as it is 1:1 and the Tamron 1:1 adapter is a terrible pain to attach.

Great colours, and an interesting subject. Nicely done!
If you don't mind suggestions it would be interesting to see this with around 5% cropped off the top and 15% off the bottom, so your 'eyes' are on the top third and the welding starburst is on the bottom third.

When it's obviously deliberate as in this case I don't mind the tilted horizon at all. It's only when it is a tiny tilt that it looks like a lack of care.
Having said that you've done something to the buildings so they aren't perpendicular to the horizon. That looks pretty weird :)
I do agree that the footprints and buildings aren't really adding anything to this picture, but overall I like it.

Very inventive :) My preference is for the first one, the little sprigs of vivid greenery add a perfect counterpoint to the subtle colours of the flower.

Just make sure you don't throw the hard drive away. Depending on how precious your photos are to you, you may wish to contact a professional data recovery company. It could be a little expensive (hundreds of dollars) but worth every penny if the photos are irreplaceable.
Re-downloading your photos from here will result in low-resolution versions of your originals.

BW for me. The buttons are okay IMO, but not interesting enough to compensate for the orange and red in the background. Also the fringing on the bin is unpleasant in colour.
