Why Pentax call them Limited Series?

Limited lenses are warning signs for the less fortunate. If you buy a limited lens your budget will be limited for the next few months. Limited food supply but amazing limited lens. Limited use of car, you'll have to walk or bus to school/work. Limited time with your significant other....that could be a good thing :)

Was in Italy for 3 weeks last year, mainly Rome but was able to visit Venice and Cinque Terre. 16-50 stayed on my k20 most of the time with 43 in tucked in my bag, forced myself to use the 77 one day in Venice. 12-24 would be perfect, and 35 or 50 in your pocket would be a nice light kit.

Just my thoughts....

i guess i've been lucky with craigslist in TO. I got most of my primes from the same guy a few years back, voigt 20, 43, and 77. Someone beat me to the 31 though >=/ My most recent craigslist purchase was a Zeiss 135 3.5.

Travel lens kit help (primes + DA*s)

I went to Italy in June for 3 weeks, brought the 16-50, skopar 20, 43, 77, and M 200. I was traveling with the gf and went out with the zoom and the 43 in my pocket all the time. I felt bad for the 77 so i took it out exclusively for the day in Venice. DA* came in handy during the 10 min rain on occasion.

just sharing..

Who made the switch to Pentax?

As superior as it is I will not be upgrading to a K5 yet, I'm happy with my K20 (as I write this).

I'm curious as to how many people switched to or added the Pentax brand as their go to dslr. Your reasons would be nice as well.

I was trying to compare the FA 31 vs EF 35L. I happen to stumble on dpreview and many really like the K5 with the Pentax primes and zooms that many appreciated and referred to as a great setup. Any Pentaxian knows that! Price and weight without compromising features and quality were the main reasons that I saw.

Is there an influx of Pentaxians? Is that why its harder to get used A, M, FA, etc lenses locally? I'm not complaining (maybe a little), just an observation.

Just to clarify I didn't start this to compare which brand has better glass or who is more superior than who etc etc.

I think I want a Silver K5 with matching FA31 now...

my first manual prime? what to get?

My first manual prime was a M50 1.7 - I had no clue as to how to use the darn thing and then it was just like a disease. You seem to constantly find these great treasures all over the place. You end going on here a lot to research them up. I got a K28 3.5 soon after the 50 and just recently I got a S-Tak 35.

Either 35 or 50 you'll have fun and learn what you like or don't like. As everyone has pointed out you can get both relatively cheap with a little more hunting than before.

Best "normal' FOV lens

I just got my hands on a Super Tak 35 and I like it as a "normal." Maybe its the new lens syndrome? It was either $50 for the s.Tak or $600 for the DA35 ltd. I think I'm starting to like it a lot more looking at those figures. :D

I love this forum. I apologize for not replying or acknowledging anyone's replies I haven't had a chance to log on due to this thing called "life," or was it money/work. Thank you to all for your suggestions.

I'll get either the Sigma 10-20 or Pentax 12-24 for my wide and either the Tammy 17-50 or 28-75. I like the Tammy for the 2.8 constant and they'd be used mainly for indoor/no flash photography situations. My main concern for the 28-75 it might be a lil on the longer side for cramped places, where I can't zoom with my feet. As for my WR obsession I'll put it on hold for now or until a 15-85 2.8 WR comes out. HA!

As for Hoanpham's trip to Niagara Falls - Snofox pretty much covered it all. I've gone with a 16-45 on a calm sunny day and it was fine as long as you do not go on the Maid of the Mist. Niagara on the Lake is a must if its your first time to visit. The clock flower and butterfly museum (or garden?) and "the smallest church" are all along the same stretch that are nice touristy spots. Random stops opposite of those places are also nice, the cable car ride comes to mind for whatever reason. Since you're there you have tons of wine options to pick up. Make sure you pick up some icewine! Hope that helps.

Do I need to buy another lens?

I know the answer. I NEED! but which one(s). Yes! its one of those threads again, sorry. :o

Fact:
- I'm going to Europe in June - 3 weeks
- k20 - 20 3.5, 43, 77 on hand

I love my primes but sometimes a pair of zooms are convenient and more considerate to your significant other on a trip.

I'm looking for a two zoom option. The contenders, Sigma 10-20, Sigma 8-16 for the wide and Tamron 17-50, Tamron 28-75, or DA 18-135 for the normal/mid-tele.

I know I'm getting either 10-20 or 8-16, the former being the cheaper option. The 8-16 was a recent consideration due to the fl.

What I couple the wide zoom with is where my brain spins and I think, I over analyze things just a little.

10-20 + 17-50 - cheap, nice overlap, fast 2.8 for low light, no weather seal
10-20 + 28-75 - cheap, 28 too long for indoor low light, no weather seal
8-16/10-20 + 18-135 - is the DA fast enough for low light - museums/churches

8-16 + 17-50 - i have the 77 for reach if needed, no weather seal
8-16 + 28-75 - i have the 20 3.5, might be too many lens switching, no weather seal

I've always wanted a weather sealed lens with my k20. The 18-135 is perfect just not for this trip. After all that I've come to realize that I can always get the 18-55WR for cheap.

your opinions and thoughts are appreciated...

Rome trip - lens suggestions

I'm planning a trip to Rome, Italy in April.

I have a 20/3.5, 43, and 77 for primes and 16-45 for a zoom. Currently debating if I should get rid of the 16-45 and go for the 15, and perhaps a WR 18-55 or 18-135 later on, or if I should save my money and be happy with what I have.

Bringing the zoom and the primes seems to be redundant but having the zoom for convenience makes it appealing, and it covers the wide end.

Thank you in advance for your suggestions and comments

I can finally post images on this thread and not just gawk at image after image of sweet orchestrated pixels.

I just got this lens and so far the only FA Ltd that i have. I hope to get the 77 Ltd in the future, but I already have the 50-135

i've seen one detailed review on this lens. anyone have the new 24-70 or tried it? have opinions? i know the tamron 28-75 is a great lens but hear that servicing a tammy can take a while compared to a sigma.

i have the k 28/3.5, m 50/1.7, just got the da 14 now debating to add the sigma or da70. convenience of a zoom vs weight and iq too maybe??

i'm far from being one of the 'experienced people' on this forum and somewhat feel intimidated to respond on threads but i figured if what i have to say doesn't make sense or is missing something i know i have 10 million others that will correct my ignorance.

mecyreaper- since you're planning to get a body only, rather than getting a 50mm prime, you could get a used or cheap 18-50 or 28-80. go out, shoot and when you get back home review/record what focal lengths you've been shooting in. few weeks of your records should give you an idea which prime to go for if you really want to go with a prime.

DA 40mm vs DA 35mm vs FA 35mm

i've tried out the da35 (all 10min) but haven't had a chance to try the da40 (store didn't have it in stock). is the auto focus on the da40 that much faster? da35 seems to be a better buy because i don't currently have a dedicated macro. this feature is nice but it also carries a cost of 280$ Cdn more.

any thoughts?

thanks for starting this thread, i've been waiting for someone to ask the same question. i still have to make up my mind. i think what is stopping me from getting the DA vs FA is wanting to have one of the classic greats vs price vs what-if-i-get-a-full-frame later.

just thought i'd share.

i've tried kinda, wrote them on a piece of paper, highlighted my final decision and end up doing it all over again. i think i'll just pick one pairing at the store, pay and go.

and i thought i was having problems picking out which body to get.

thanks for your opinions.

budget wise i'm not sure i can get the wider lens until way later on if i end up getting the 31 ltd and a tele.

as for using the 40 and a 50-135/70-200, its something to consider or even 21. it would be better in price too.

I think that's the reason why I'm having trouble making up my mind, "versatility of zooms or the unrivalled rendition of the primes."

Do i need 200mm? i've been walking around with the 50 and there are times i wished i had the 320 with me. When people on the forum ask what do you shoot, my answer is usually everything. I just like shooting in general. I guess, im just starting out and not sure what or how I particularly shoot things?? Landscape, portrait, candid street, close up.... i like 'em all, is that an answer?
