I hope the next release is something more dramatic than a slightly enhanced K7, though I promise not to complain too much if Pentax give us Full HD video (manual control over exposure of course :P) and better low light performance. These things matter to me :)

Thanks for the reply Adam. All apparently support USB 2.0, but what you're saying makes sense.

Does anybody have problems with SD card readers taking an incredibly long time to copy data? My Pentax K7 copies data really fast unlike many of the card readers I use. Is there anything I can do to speed things up or do I need to buy a new card reader? If so, what card readers can I trust?

Having been an international competition climber for years, and more recently a Pentax fanatic, there is so much to get excited about right now! I'd love to chat with you sometime, maybe ask for a few tips in regard to climbing photography.
Best of luck!

Quick question. Would anyone be so kind as to post photos of what the AF-360 FGZ looks like mounted to the K7? I am interested in buying a pair of these flash units but want to get a visual idea of what I would be dealing with (to make sure my lenses don't cause shadows, etc).
Cheers,
Pete.

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone knew of an external vision monitor for K7? I'm particularly looking at something battery powered (as we're not always near a powerpoint) and preferably something that will mount to the hotshoe? Usually they come in around the 5-10"mark. I just want a better perspective for shooting video other than my current zacuto z-finder.

I fiddled around with it all and got it taking shots and autofocusing by touching wires. Thanks a lot for your advice :)

A quick, easy & cost effective smooth shutter release which might be a good idea for anyone too lazy to actually buy the remote.
All you need is a pair of headphones to suit the Pentax's 2.5mm jack (The headphone end is a smaller version of the standard 3.5mm jack and is usually found on mobile devices). If you don't already own a pair, go to your local phone store/supermarket and pick a pair up for >$5.
Ok. Now if you plug the headphones in 1/3 of the way you'll be able to autofocus. A bit further and you'll be able to take a shot. You'll quickly find yourself taking a photos a lot smoother than if you were using the shutter button.
Unfortunately it can't possibly be as smooth as a genuine remote, but can be a good way to save money if you're someone like me who only ever needs a remote once in lifetime :p
If anyone has any better ideas, or a way to improve on my solution I'd be happy to hear about it.
(Tested on K-7. Feel free to test on other models with a 2.5mm jack)

Hey Barondla,
If you want half decent levels you're going to need a battery powered mixer with Phantom power if you microphone/s require. Unfortunately they can be a pain to set up, especially considering a mixer will have to connect straight back into the camera itself via cable.
If you're keen on getting really nice audio, and wouldn't mind spending some money on something bound to work in most situations, maybe look into a Zoom H4 or H4n. I got the H4 when it first came out and love it to bits. Really nice audio quality, can take two microphones through XLR inputs, doesn't need a cable to the camera as it records to SD, and it's usually fairly easy to sync to the video later with most video editing programs. Also, the built in microphones produce beautiful stereo sound and might save you having to carry a couple external microphones around.
Anyway, just an idea. If you want a free and easily accessible option, a double adaptor might suit your needs. Otherwise you can always run one microphone into the camera and another into something like an iPhone and sync the two later?

I suppose there are numerous reasons why I shoot with strangers and not only with people I know. Part of it for me is meeting new people and photographing someone I might not otherwise ever get to photograph. You also get that sense of uncomfortability from most people, which can really show in their facial expressions. Also, you're dealing with a very small window of opportunity. People aren't going to stand around while you adjust your camera, so there's always the challenge of having that one chance. If you miss the shot you can't exactly ask them to return and do it again. Makes for good practice.
Oh, and it's a good opportunity to give someone who might never get a nice photo of themselves exactly that. Make them happy. And while you're at it you can have a nice chat and slip them a business card hoping that one day they become the CEO of Pentax and decide to give you free gear for the rest of your life...

I've got the K7 and was wondering whether it would be more effective to increase the exposure of an image using Photoshop CS3 than to raise the ISO on camera. Is this a stupid question?
Another photoshop question: Are there any better ways to increase a photo's exposure than the usual Brighten/Contrast or Curves in terms of preserving picture detail?

A great and effective diffuser for your inbuilt flash. I had to do 5 mins worth DIY to get it properly fitting the K7 (get the diffuser closer to the flash so light wouldn't spill out the top on a wide lens), but it works perfectly now and really makes a difference.
Very cheap & compact. Comes in 3 colours (White, Warm, Cool) - Less than $30 AUD
Find them here @ Fotobestway
Also avaliable at Photo Continental (Australian Residents)

Thanks Arbib. I'll usually go where ever the people are. I suppose I'm not overly worried about being hassled by security or police. In fact I was shooting at an inner city train station the other week and police drove past several times looking at us curiously. They didn't seem to mind though. I guess it's when you start to tape your backdrop to walls that they can use the "vandalism" excuse to get rid of you. That's why I use the typical stand with crossbar approach and make as minimal impact as possible.
Definitely give it a go though. It's so much fun and people love seeing the photos of themselves once I get them online.
This was outside that same train station I just mentioned (we eventually managed to get rid of those awful wrinkles :D).

Final Cut will work wonders on either of those computers. Expect slightly longer render times on the Macbook Pro but overall it'll still be an incredibly fast machine. You also have the option of going portable if you desire. Don't worry about the Macbook Pro's capabilities with editing/rendering HD, the Mac Pro would only really be "necessary" if you were thinking of editing 4K footage or something ridiculous.
