KX raw pictures all in red shed
Posted By alman

I updated to the latest KX firmware and I noticed that I get the red color in my pictures when I go to 64000 ISO. I actually get it at 32000 ISO and 16000 ISO but the redness in the picture reduces as I reduce the ISO. The red comes whether in JPEG or RAW mode and the Red in the picture disappears in both JPEG and RAW when I go to ISO 800 or less.
see examples of the photos above

Any one can explain?

Both pictures taken same time one in jpeg and the other in Raw (dng).
they look fine in the KX playback but when downloaded in iPhoto or Aperture, the red shows in the RAW.

Hi,
I got me a KX to add on to my k-7. Everything is fine but when I take raw pictures they all come in red shed as if I used a red filter. What is going on?

K-7 went kaput

No it is not the 1st and it seems to be more than the K-7 its seems to be a Pentax DSLR electrical problem that always seems to end in circuit board changes and the customer (consumer) suffers with waiting and waiting while Pentax takes its time to fix. There is deffinitly a Pentax manufacturing and or design error that needs to have Pentax own up to its responsibility rather than letting the consumer pay the price of being without a camera for weeks on while they fix the problem individually ... Check these other reports and issues:

I sympathise with you and your wedding situation.
The electricals have been known to give in in Pentax DSLRs but unfortunatley Pentax will not be able to assist you before your wedding although it is a recouring problem with several customers in differnet models and it seems the only solution is motherboard replacements and that takes several weeks as I got to find out. The two links below have k-7 in the titles but as you can read in the threads, K20 and K10s are also getting the issues.

I hope for you it is less serious and you can get it to work on time for the wedding.

How old is your k20?
I think there are some electronic problems with some of the Pentax DSLR. I had one myself and others have also reported them. Try removing the battery for a few seconds then put it back and try.

Again assumptions, assumptions and judgements and judgements

I never mentioned telephone anywhere.
Pentax Customer service is by phone or live chat. Being half way round the world, I did the live chat. Stilll it is Pentax and Customer service and live. My story never changed :

Again the events:
I was very reasonable and polite with Pentax
1. they gave me a dealer (service center) in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain that are all shutdown (Though they still list them with Pentax and they sent me their contacts)
2. I agreed to send it to Arizona for Pentax, but requested assistance by them understanding that since I will travel to the USA from half way around the world and (happens to be in Texas), it would give me a one week window to work with them to solve the issue in Arizona. I didn't ask for them to do it in Houston TX. But they turned the request down saying that my timing is not their problem
3. They then said they had nothing more to add and cut me off.

My conclusion is this is bad customer service support from Pentax by any objective measure and cant believe repeated attack I am getting for this. And again Wheatfield you assumed and misjudged.

assumptions, assumptions and judgements and judgements
The local contact given is out of business (Pentax died out in Dubai) ... if you dont believe me, go to Pentax customer support, get their number and try calling ... "you get an out of service message".

Have you tried shipping electronics overseas from and to the middle east?

Read my points about me traveling to the USA and carrying the camera by hand to be fixed ....
Like I said, this defense from some members here with arguments that are changing and constantly giving wrong statements about the case is hilarious

there we go again doubting the customer. I guess his holiness Pentax is always right.

FYI, the transcript happens to be an online help line with Pentax customer service which is typed
Have you tried paying for a long distance call from Dubai?
I just cant believe the extent some members are going to just prove Pentax right. the K-7 is the Pentax flagship camera just introduced to take on the big boys, and the camera flashes on and off repeatedly and can only be stopped by taking the battery off and I as a customer just have to understand that the camera has to be taken in back overseas (away from my place of residence) indefinitely because they just don't know anything about it, even though there has been records of similar incidents with their previous models with links to such complaints from other customers given to them from this website (on the K-7 and other models). I as a customer am also willing and am traveling half way around the world to get it to them and that can not be met with any goodwill from them? this is their flagship camera. Not looking for a fight here, (I am not a journalist paid by Canon or Nikon looking for a story), Just a customer wanting a working camera.
Pentax is a good camera, but this customer service part is just not right by any reasonable customer needs.

Guys dont take Wheatfield comments and accept them as mine

I was very reasonable and polite with Pentax

4. Wheatfield, has attacked me from the start and made many false statements and assumptions. and being a Pentax support member, makes me wonder if its a Pentax policy to just protect their stance even if it is to attach consumers.

I didnt expect answers from the forum, I just wanted to share this bad experience with other Pentax owners, just like I have shared many good experiences

The k-7 HDR feature does the same thing without the need of further processing with a computer. It gives better results sometimes than multiple shots with computer processing and sometimes it doesn't. I use it frequently and like it.

Wheatfield: There you go judging me again
all the conclusions (statements) you made above are wrong ... and based on your interest to throw the blame on me each and every possible way.
You have this problem of judging so quick and you seem to want to focus on my character instead of the problem with Pentax and the K-7 which others have had also
Stop playing judge.

Wheatfield
looks like you are on the Pentax payroll and are attacking me without knowing the details of my conversation with Pentax customer service
What is your problem?
You have no right to Assume or attack my character
Customer service are supposed to give a service to customers not judge whether or not they should help or not.
Stop judging me and stop defending when you dont have the details of the conversation
