*PETITION* Lets put an end to the crazy online Pentax lens prices in the US!

I'll tell you how I understand it:
Basically they say that online stores will sell at MSRP, which is 2 times the old price. B&M will sell at about 0.75 of MSRP, making them somewhat cheaper than online stores. You as a price conscious customer will prefer the B&M in this case, because they are the cheaper alternative now.

The problem with this kind of policy is that overall, the prices are going up in this system. people will not buy Pentax gear at any cost. Some will buy 3rd party, some will buy used and some will even find it beneficial to switch systems altogether. There is one more problem with this policy: Potential customers - They will have a really hard time justifying entering the Pentax system if it's prices are close to more established and well known competitors.

Never bothered with it on my K5... maybe when it will sync with a mouse, but until then, the computer will stay much more convenient.

I'm not sure that Pentax would agree to have the lower (in cart and likewise) price as their only price. With that in mind, I'm not sure if the two prices policy is that bad. Canon and Nikon offer just one price, but it is relatively higher, so I wouldn't say it's the right way to go.

The tilt is what's makes this photo different from the other 4 million wide angle photos of this area. You should tell those people that rules (of composition) are meant to be broken. ;-)

some good lighting came out of the $11 set-up.
Is it just me or the image is a tad tilted to the right?

There is just one problem:
If they'll offer Black Friday prices all year, what would they offer on Black Friday?

Seriously though, I don't expect Black Friday prices, but everyday prices should (like they have been when I switched to Pentax in 2009) much closer to Black Friday's prices than to MSRP prices.

Nice set.
The second picture is the best, although the 3rd one breaks the rules of composition quite nicely.

I am not so sure about that and the reason is that "what comes out of the camera" is the muted JPEG version that nobody uses to present. If you upload whatever the camera manufacturer set for default, than you simply let the manufacturer do the PP for you. If you change settings for the JPEGs, you actually do PP, but a very limited one, which doesn't utilized the full potential of the camera.
Since PP is anyways being done, why not use it to it's most potential?

Raw processing has a learning curve. The first few frames will probably look worse than in camera JPEGs, but practice and time makes perfect.

Almost all of my Pentax gear was bought from B&H. Old prices of course. I have no intention of buying new gear at MSRP prices. Any gear that gets faulty will be replaced with used and/or 3rd party equipment, until normal MAP prices are restored.
To add to that, I bought a new 40mm LTD prime about a week ago, but that was on black Friday prices.

There is one major issue: the sensor has 14 bits of data in the input side (in the case of the K5, other cameras sometimes have more or less). The final output JPG contains only 8 bits, so a process must be done to choose which part of the data will be included in the final JPG. If you shoot JPG, you let the camera do the PP, that's all. If you shoot RAW, You do the PP stage yourself. There is nothing more "realistic" in JPG shooting, just less work and less control of the output. Some apply further steps like horizon leveling (I do that stage for instance), dust removing and even object removing.
I personally think that objects removing and/or cropping affects the realism of the photo and is less accepted. Others think it's acceptable, which is fine too.

Thanks for the review.
your remarks about the DR are a surprise, I've always assumed that the FF will have a substantial advantage in that area.
Will there be an option for you to take photos of the same area with both cameras, try to expand the DR and upload the results?

IMHO, for landscapes, you want your UWA lens to be as wide as possible and with some barrel distortion. This distortion maybe bad for architecture photography but for landscapes, it enhances the wide angle effect. If the 8-16 is out of budget than I would suggest the Sigma 10-20 (the old version), I had it when I had a Nikon system and it's a great lens for a relatively low price.

I've owned the 12-24 and I currently own the Sigma 8-16. Although the Pentax is sharper, the difference in FOV creates a huge advantage towards the Sigma. I know it wasn't originally in your list, but I suggest you seriously consider it as an alternative.
I've attached an example...

16-50 (with problems) vs 21 + 35

Hi,
So this is the problem:
As can be seen in my signature, I already got the 21 LTD and the 16-50. The wide side is covered currently by a Sigma 8-16
The 16-50's SDM is dead. As far as I can see it I have several options, considering that I wish to avoid focal length overlap, reduce costs and keep Image quality as high as possible:
1. Fix the SDM, Sell the 21.
2. Fix the SDM, than sell the 16-50, buy a 35ish lens (leaning towards the macro version).
3. Sell the 16-50 without fixing it, for a significantly lower price, buy a 35 prime.

What would you suggest I'll do?
Another piece of info that could help - If anyone knows the price if fixing the SDM in Canada, please share.

Thanks for any help in advance.

He should spend some more time in planning his videos. Youtube videos Aren't meant to be sifted through to find 2 minutes of useful information among 12 others. I can Understand the plane example (although I disagree), but it shouldn't take a third of the video.
About the cameras: IMHO comparing the the 5DmkIII to the k5 IIs is like comparing the 5D mkIII to the 845D. You can do that, but the outcome would be pretty obvious, so why bother?

Another SDM Failure - 16-50mm f/2.8

The problematic AF is caused by the SDM dying away slowly. My 16-50 had/s the same problem. It start by a fail on locking focus, which is being solved by what you call a "warm up" and eventually the morning warm up exercise will get longer and longer, until the SDM will give up completely. Mine had the same problem. If you can still use your warranty, I suggest you do so.

Another SDM Failure - 16-50mm f/2.8

My 16-50 lens acts exactly the same. Mine was bought new about a year and half ago and started acting up about 4 months ago. I have also noticed that using the lens daily makes it work fine for the duration of the daily usage. The quoted failure returns after a week or two of non-usage. Since repairing my lens is non practical in my case (due to the high costs of the need of sending it to the US for repairs), I'm still debating on what to do with it when the SDM will give up completely.

B&H Contest theme nominations

I would like to suggest 2 themes:
Public Transportation - buses, trains, taxis, airplanes and so on, as well as rails, bus routes etc.
The second theme would be Shutter Speed: 1 second or slower. any photo, that answers this criteria would be eligible.
