Well I guess I am not advanced like many people here. I just received my K200D and 2 kit lenses plus the battery grip. Now it is off to figuring out all the little things I can play with and for the next few months I will be asking some questions and opinions on photography so be prepared although they won't be total newbie questions (well maybe some).

Love the camera though it fit my hand perfectly and the battery grip I have to say is like a small extension that I really enjoy it has a really solid feel to it when all the batteries are in place along with the lens. It is heavy to some I am sure, but I welcome it since I like the rugged feel of the camera. Total quality here and I am very impressed so far. All told around $550 with plenty of advice from people here of which I am really grateful.

Thank you again Pentax community for your advice and continued support and I look forward to a long lasting relationship with my new girlfriend (that one might piss off the fiance though :).

Thanks GerryL I picked one up because I don't like having my face against the back of the camera either when I was trying it out. Found the deal on Amazon for the battery grip too, although from another supplier which was cheaper after the shipping compared to Beach Camera. Thanks everyone for all your advice now i just have to wait for everything to come in :(.

Thank you everyone for your response, I am just confused with so many lenses out there I think so I probably asked a strange and invalid question. I think lenses that are k mount is where I thought I would need an adpator or something, but really they just made the proper lens for that mount and I got confused and thought I would need an adaptor.

Doh :(....

Hello,

I was looking at some lenses and was not sure if every maker other than pentax needs to have an adaptor to mount to my new k200D.

I know if they are made for pentax from say sigma then no of course, but ones like minolta or others that I cannot think of right now. Is there a database of what mounts go with which lenses?

I tried finding some more info on this great site, thanks for your help with a pentax newbie. My K200d is OTW!!!!

Thanks I already have a basic tripod, forgot to mention that. I think I will use the advice and wait to get anything other than a cleaning kit for the sensor.

Hey everyone I finally took the plunge for the k200d after seeing them in person at the B&H store in NY.

The k200D fit the best in my hands compared to the other models and I purchased one from best buy for the refurbished version since it was only $379 and I am looking into some lenses although I can find those on my own. I was wondering what accessories you think would be good for a beginner?

I have thought about the battery grip since I think it would provide better holding of the camera although I could be wrong there. A screen protector and an eyepiece although B&H are out of them right now.

Let me know what you think so far and any other suggestions if you can take the time, thanks.

Thank you for the advice so far, I am looking at DSLR only lenses so film is not a consideration for my SLR camera.

It seems the 1.4 FA 50mm lens is one of the most versitle and popular lenses to have. Do all lenses switch to manual focus once you touch the focus ring on them? I see some have what is called focus shift which I think is the function I mentioned previously, but do they have to say they have that ability for it to work on a K200D, K2000 or K20D?

Hello everyone I have been doing some reading to understand about Pentax lenses and what the nomenclature is for things like FA, A, DA etc..

After reading all about them I was wondering how much of an issue is it to have an aperture ring or not on a lens? Does the camera make up for it if you do not have it on the lens? Is it a feature preferred by those who do manual modes?

Also what about zoom lock, is it important to have it on your lenses?

I am just looking to get into DSLR and it is really just something of a hobby for me so I won't be purchasing too many lenses. I would like to have a prime such as the pancake lens and the kit lens 18-55 and probably a zoom lens ideally to finish off what I would like to have, at least in my mind that is.

This weekend I will go out and see how all of the Pentax models feel in my hands, right now on paper looking at the 200D or 20D if I can find a good deal on them and picking up some second hand lenses.

So in the end just looking for some advice and info really, thanks for listening and any help you can provide.

Thank you Marc for your insightful advice and I truly appreciate your time :).

I really have no clue about focal lengths at this point, I am a web developer and gadget geek to a degree so I can figure out instruction manuals that read like stereo instructions without a problem and enjoy learning about my new device.

If you have a recommendation for lenses then I am happy to hear any other advice you can give on the subject for a first time DSLR guy.

I have been doing a lot of reading the past few weeks to become familiar with the jargon and functions that I would require the rest is just bells and whistles really.

Hi everyone,

As you may easily tell I am new to these forums and I have been doing research on all of the big 3 (Pentax, Canon, Nikon) sure there are others out there. Anyway I decided on a Pentax because it seems they provide very high quality product that is backwards compatible and I like their feature sets of IS in body and pentaprism.

I am trying to decide between the K10 or K2000. I found a good deal for getting a refurb K10 for $399 (body only). I wanted to get the 50mm 1.4f lens and then expand from there. I would like to start with some good glass, my needs are small and am a first time DSLR user.

I do light photography but want a system I can grow into (hence the choice for Pentax). I do art photogrphy for my wife since she is a painter. I like to do general photography but nothing serious.

I am just looking to tap some of those experienced people here and see what advice you have for me. Thank you for listening :).
