I composed this image while hiking in Prescott, Arizona, last year. My husband and I were walking through the forest when I came across one piece of a coyote skeleton. There was no time left to take pictures as we were hurrying back to the car so we continued walking. Not far ahead I stumbled upon another piece and then another! This was enough to convince me that I needed to take one more shot before I lost the opportunity. After all, not every day I get lucky enough to find an almost full skeleton! While arranging the pieces together, I noticed my shadow over the bones and gave me this idea. I found it pretty challenging to accomplish as I had to find a good setting that would allow me to use the blitz up close without overexposing the image (even so I still needed to make a few adjustments in Photoshop), while positioning correctly over the bones. Since it was only 4pm, my shadow was too short to match the length of the skeleton so I had to stand in a difficult position to get the shot right. It doesn't align exactly but it fits with the subject I was going for :).

"Mojave Yucca", also known as the "Spanish Dagger", is a small evergreen tree that can grow up to 5 m tall and is native to the Mojave Desert and Upper Sonoran Desert, in Southwest US. I shot this photo earlier this spring, while hiking on Vineyard Trail, near Roosevelt Lake, Arizona. I wanted to capture the sharpness of the landscape balanced by the soft sky.

Welcome to edition 175 of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to Warped for hosting the previous edition!

This edition covers photos from July 31 - Aug 13, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favourite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Here are the links to previous POTW threads:

I would be interested in the publicity but I'm not sure what you guys consider an interesting story. Do you really want to hear a dramatic story full of cliche like, "I'm a poor, shy, Romanian freelance artist and wannabe contortionist girl who moved to America to follow her dreams, and is struggling to learn on her own about marketing photography and starting a gift shop business while adapting to a new place with no friends and zero guidance" ?. I don't think this will bring me the publicity I want and I'm not sure what other story I could say...:hmm:

Hi, everybody! I had a great Pentax Day here in Arizona, I'm very happy with this event idea :p. I went on a trip to Superstitious Mountains and caught the best weather. I was afraid the rain might ruin my trip, but up in the mountains was just perfect...foggy, hailing and awesome clouds. Can't wait to upload my photos:). One question though..Does the exact hour of the photos matter too or just the date? I think the clock on my camera must have stopped while I recharged the battery so the time is delayed with few hours but the date is okay. I realized this a bit late. I hope it does not matter much, does it?

The Great White Pelican

This is a photo of one of the three Great White Pelicans at St. Jame's Park in London, UK. After chasing squirrels with my camera around the park, I came across these giant birds standing in the middle of the alley. This was the first time I've seen a pelican in person, so I did not know what to expect. I shot a few pictures from a distance at first but there was too much poop on the ground to get a good angle :p, so I inched closer and captured this portrait. I used Adobe Photoshop to darken the background and bring out the feathers.
