The 90 mm f2.5 or f2.8 are still highly sought after for portrait lenses. Personally, I prefer the f2.5 but either will get the job done in great fashion.

You might want to consider the Tamron 10-24 f3.5-4.5. It's a little faster, has a little bigger range, and delivers consistently good results. I believe that it may be a little less expensive also but not sure on that. I get very nice results with my K5II.
Hope that's useful.

My K5-II gives me the audible beep and the indication in the viewfinder when then lens is in focus in MF mode.

Another vote for the Joby sling strap. I use it in conjunction with the Pentax wrist strap and it is easy to carry even with my Tokina 80-200 ATX Pro 828 f2.8 attached.

I'm in. I won't pay the current new prices for Pentax lenses.

The description on the Costco site very clearly states that the camera comes with the standard kit lens, not the weather resistant one. Just to clarify.

My Sunday paper this morning had inserts for both Canon and Nikon. The latter was touting the D800 at 36MP and $2999 and the D3200 at 24MP and $649. How does this help Pentax??

I actually have both the K10D and K20D and use both regularly.......They are much better cameras than I am a photographer, although I think I may be getting better.
Have a Great Weekend, everybody.

IF I were to jump, it would be most probably to Nikon. Most of my friends shoot them, and every Canon that I have ever handled felt "cheap".

As one gets older, one's arms get progressively shorter in relation to focusing ability of your eye. Consequently, one's shooting position becomes more and more unstable. Combine that with something like an 80-200 F2.8 and there is a tendency to fall over forward onto one's face. This tends to be hard on the camera equipment and personally embarrassing. I have owned Pentax DSLRs since the iST-D and don't think that I have ever tried Live View except when the camera was on a tripod.
Guess that makes me a crusty, old, curmudgeon.....
Best Regards all,

My problem is that I was sort of hoping that they (Tamron), Sigma, and even Tokina, might view the Pentax market as an opportunity. I guess that they all figure that it's too small to make it worthwhile. Another argument for the Canikon people.......

Well, for what it's worth, Tamron announced a new 24-70 F2.8 a few minutes ago. For Cannon, Nikon, Sony. Sort of puts us into perspective although it's a full frame lens and we don't have one of those.....

Looking as this somewhat differently perhaps, I have to wonder what ( if any) effect the price increase on lenses will have on the "other " lens manufacturers ( i.e. Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, etc all). Currently, these guys don't make a lot of their lenses in K-Mount any more and the ones that are available appear to be older designs. It would seem that there would be an opportunity here for them to fill in the market gaps with their products, where they might have a significant price advantage over comparable Pentax lenses. If that were to happen, then we could come out ahead, or Pentax might be forced to re-think their strategy.
Just my $0.02.

The net result of all of the changes just confirms my decision and encourages me to continue to enjoy my K10 and K20 and the lenses that I have accumulated over the years since I went digital. At some time in the future, I may buy a K5, but that will be after the prices do come down ( and I firmly believe they eventually will).

Don't know anything about the K-5 one way or the other. All I can say is that if they need parts, and don't have them available, then they can't do the repair until they have them.

My K20 has had two sensors replaced under warranty from C.R.I.S. and they've been very nice to work with. The second time the sensor was out of stock and it took a couple of weeks to get it to them, but they were attentive to requests for updates and I really had no problem at all.
I would certainly classify myself as a satisfied customer.

I don't understand why this is an issue. You can certainly set up the DSLRs in a full manual mode if you so choose. If you prefer the manual setup, then just don't put the camera in one of the fixed modes.
