Given my runins with Rupe, never thought I'd reach the lofty heights of the Otis seal of approval :)

As a Moderator I occasionally had runins with Rupert - I'm sorry but being old, grumpy and generally over the hill means that I'm afraid there was a limit to the amount of squirrel postings I could handle in any one day period :). But, a couple of years later, I find myself in the supremely ironic position of having been adopted by a 5 week old orphan baby squirrel, which I'm hand-rearing until it is old enough to make its own way into the world. 10 days in she's doing fine, on a diet of rehydration liquids, puppy baby milk formula, nuts, veggies and bread, living in my photostudio with a microwavable hot water bottle as mummy. She's incredibly smart - learned to use the hamster water dropper thingie within one day. Incredibly endearing, whenever I take her outside to get used to that great big warm yellow thing in the sky she comes running straight at me and buries herself under my jumper. Meet "Pip" (name courtesy of my daughter). Rupert, this one's on you :)

ebook/pdf with photography projects?

Hi - long stretch, but I remember it being posted at PF in the past, but there was a free pdf or ebook download of digital photography projects a couple of years ago ie long exposure ND110, startrails etc, that used one of my photos in it, can anyone recall what it was and where to get it by any chance? I have a friend who'd like to learn, so seem to remember that'd be a reasonable collection of projects to do with her...

Thanks!!!

Just wanted to say thanks very much for everyone's recommendations, I really appreciate them, and lots to think about. I think I've identified the necessary purchase, now I just have to negotiate with Mrs Nass :confused::eek:

Anyone have any experience with M42 MTO-1000A, or another recommendation for vaguely affordable 750mm+ super tele however weird? (for birding, APSC). I can live with doughnut bokeh (I think!). I have the Sigma 150-500 old version with TC but just isn't cutting it for me. I'm not a birder at all but live on property with insane wildlife so stupid not to get a vaguely ok telephoto. I'm sure I saw a review somewhere of maybe a telescope optic used for this with some shot of a pigeon but I can't find the darned piece, grr. Image is example of photo I can't live with

Thanks!

Don't think it's a huge number (10-30k or so nationally), but Victorians introduced them to their country estates and they've been here ever since, and my understanding is that it's now the most significant group outside Asia. I live in a village in the woods, the sort of habitat they like, where there's lots of shelter under rhododendrons and beech trees for them to forage. I have nestboxes in the trees as well and they breed in them. Should be a good spring next year as I put up 60 boxes of all sorts over Christmas. And ultimate goal, if I can get a kingfisher nesting here then I'll be a happy chappie

Terrible shots, but always nice to feed the birdies in the garden.

I moved to a new house 1 year ago and my cunning plan is to feed them so there's plenty of photo opps moving forward

Not remotely surprising considering the millions of Canon users that exist.

Not a great omen for consumer choice 3 years into the future :(

Come to think of it you could combine shapelock with something else to keep the something else rigid :)

Shapelock offers an interesting potential, because it is mouldable, rollable and white. Bottom line make any shape, any thickness by dunking it in hot water and it goes soft => mouldable, rollable with a kitchen roller. Something I meant to try and make a diffuser from but a) life intervened and b) I had trouble getting even thickness

Some of my experience at Spreading the light with extreme macro diffusion - also look at related links at the bottom.

Often it's a compromise between maximum area from the pov of the specimen and being able to manouevre the dam thing into small spaces.

This worked really well for me for field stuff. The point is actual size doesn't matter, what matters is light breadth relative to specimen. Small, close is same as large far away, so for manoeuverability I went with small

Yes, thankyouverymuch for your advice about how to choose a camera system - I'm not entirely unfamiliar with photography. But, I'll be honest, it's not terribly helpful - not what I'm asking or why.

I do completely appreciate it's crystal ball gazing and that's tricky and a bit of a stretch. But if folks could give their informed opinion relating to the actual question that would be helpful

Hi,

I was hoping to canvass as wide a possible opinion base on which brand/model looks like it's winning the race to become THE mirrorless leader of the next 5/10 years. Investing in a new/unknown system is a big investment and I'd like to make sure I get it right for the medium term. If you could also explain why then that'd be really great

Thanks!!!
