In my opinion, this is a perfect camera to learn on. The meter works perfectly and since it if fully manual, it will force you to really learn how the shutter speed, apeture and film speed relate to each other. I'm sure others will agree. :)

Yea, the DA lenses don't work. I'm thinking of the 31mm f1.8, 43mm f1.9 and 77mm f1.8.

I don't know from personal usage but I have seen pictures on Flickr taken with Limited lenses on MX's. I would probably keep the MX if I could afford to use it with those lenses :)
Kresica, I only wish I would have known earlier that I wasn't going to keep it. I only made up my mind yesterday.:o

I have a Pentax MX that was just CLA'd by Eric and pentaxs.com. It works very smoothly now and is a pleasure to use. I have a different camera that I enjoy using more that needs a CLA so I am selling this to fund it. The CLA from Eric was $70 + the $5 in shipping I paid.
I will sell the camera for $125 USD + shipping. This price is firm. I accept paypal. |

egordon99 - that's a great shot, you can see the concentration in your grandma's face.
My Grandma is losing her mind to Alzheimers. I find myself taking more and more pictures of her every time I see her.
Again, thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone! :) I knew the second I shot this that it should be converted to B&W.
It's funny... I enjoy the process of shooting with a rangefinder more than an SLR but most of my best results come from my DSLR.

Well, in the literal sense of a "polar" plunge, its a joke. Water temp is in the high 50's. The real purpose is to raise money for the Special Olympics. All the registration fees and donations go to the Special Olympics of Southern California.

These are scans from Rite Aid (Fuji Superia) and CVS (C-41 B&W). I'm not going back to Rite Aid though because at 100%, the pictures are quite soft. I think it's their scanner. The XP2 pictures from CVS are noticeably sharper.

I haven't been this excited about photography in a while! I had a blast taking pictures and I'm very pleased with the results. Everything was taken with a Pentax MX and SMC-M 28mm f3.5, Ilford XP2 and Fuji Superia 200.

That's funny. I just got back my MX from Eric today. $70 (including shipping) for a basic CLA and to fix the inconsistent meter. Works like a charm now.

Well, it's off to Eric at Pentaxs.com and will hopefully return with a working meter.

Finn - Eric is exactly who I had in mind.
Ivan - Thanks for that link. I tried that and the meter works when I put the bottom plate back on, but the meter only works for the first shot. Once I re-cock the shutter and press the shutter down half-way to activate the meter, it doesn't work, no LED lights. I even tried cleaning the contacts again (with sand paper) and the same thing happened. The meter only worked for the first shot. :(
Jerry - the camera is mechanically sound. No screws missing and no flex in the bottom plate.
Any more suggestions? It looks like a CLA is in my future.

I just purchase an MX and replaced the battery but the meter is very inconsistent. Sometimes it works (LED's on on) and sometimes it doesn't (LED's don't light up). I know of a good place to get it CLA'd but it rather save my money if I can.
Could it simply be a dirty electronic contact? How hard is it to remove the top?
Returning the camera isn't really an option because it came with an SMC-M 28mm f3.5 lens and the price I paid for the pair is about how much I'd expect to pay for the lens alone.
Thanks,
Chris

Thanks everyone. This photo wasn't planned at all. In fact, it's very underexposed in terms of what the scene looked like in reality. I was facing almost directly into the sun.

I'm not sure. There are several stray cats in my apartment complex. I have two cats already so I did take him. Also, this cat seemed so comfortable around me that I wouldn't be suprised if he was domesticated.
If my wife was home at the time, I'd have three cats.
Here's my two: |
