On October 19 I took a flight from Frankfurt to Los Angeles. Since it was a day time flight I'd hoped for some interesting wilderness areas. I had prepared with a long lens mounted and made sure the camera was easily accessible. So when we passed directly over Iceland with fairly clear skies I grabbed the camera. There is no time to dilly dally when travelling at 550 or so miles per hour. Iceland from 33,000 feet by Jim, on Flickr

It seems so long ago already... gentle afternoons spent in the dappled light of the wild garden.

To think that just a few years ago I was struggling to get decent exposures at ISO1600 with the K-5. The KP does fine at ISO6400 and even ISO12800 (the first shot) with only some profiled NR applied during raw conversion in Darktable. Also, the Irix I purchased a few months ago allows me to allow for a bit more distance and so avoid obscuring natural lighting on my subject. A very gloomy day in the local forest and I'm pretty satisfied with the results. |

Here are three images taken while hiking "The Narrows" of the North Fork of the Virgin River, Zion National Park. I was quite fortunate to be in the right places at the times when "the glow" was present on the canyon walls. While around 1000 feet above the river, the walls in places come within 30 feet of each other. A memorable and breathtaking place and hike (in more ways than one!).
The Mystery Wall
Just south of "Wall Street," the upper portion of the Narrows.

I have had the pleasure to present some photo's from this area earlier on. Here are some more! In this southern, coastal part of the province of Finnmark it is a wild country going up and down from sea level to glaciers.
Cheers,
Remco
1. Going down
2. Rising up from the sea; where the end of the island of Silda meets the open sea. That is here on the map.
3. Big rock.
4. Erosion.
5. A peak peeking trough.
6. Bergsfjord church. |

This is a continuation of the earlier thread about the fjords and landscapes around the small village of Bergsfjord in the most northern part of Norway. About fifty people live there. At night, if you are lucky as a photographer, you get to play with the Northern Lights.
Cheers,
Remco
1. A panorama made out of 32 vertical photo's on 150mm with the K-3III and the DFA150-450mm from a boat. This is Bergsfjord.
2. When it gets dark the fun starts!

Here's a few select shots from a scramble up Mt Niles in the park - it's around 23km with 1350m of elevation gain up to the summit at 2976m, making a nice 8.5 hour stroll. Here's a shot of an alpine meadow you encounter on the way, you can see Mt Victoria as the largest peak at nearly 3464m tall right in the centre here:
The views from up there were simply amazing, with the good visibility that day we could see ranges and ranges of mountains as far as the eye could see in every direction. From the peak you can look down and see Sherbrooke Lake. Mt Victoria is again visible, centre left. Mt Temple is the large peak on the left at 3544 tall. The Goodsir towers are seen peaking through the clouds in the distance on the right, at a height of 3567m. And of course many many others, but these are the more notable mountains...
In the other direction we have the Waputik Icefield. Again, layered mountain ranges, the Icefield Parkway lying within them. On the ridge to the right that descends into the glacier (Mt Daly), you may be able to see a tiny abnormal bump - that's the Scott Duncan ACC hut: |

Had the great pleasure of spending time with the countless puffins on Mykines, the westernmost of the Faroe Islands. Took too many pictures to count but these are some of my favourites. BTW I absolutely adore the F*300

...and will be back at hight tide. In-between I do my thing on the flats. We have had a wet summer and that does translate in more photo opportunities because I do like some clouds in my seascapes. These are two recent captures for your viewing pleasure!
Cheers,
Remco
1. The sun just appeared after a rain shower and made the whole scene 'pop' a little bit more.
2. Lots of rain being dumped into the sea. |

I finally updated the firmware on my K-5 to use the O-GPS1 and the Astrotracer. Here's my first attempt this past Tuesday night. ISO800, 2-minute exposure, HD 10-17mm DA-Fisheye ED.
Taken at Cedar Breaks National Monument, Utah just barely in time between full sunset and moonrise.

Finally we can travel again around Europe with not too much hassle, and I can't wait to go back to Iceland in September as my first international trip after Covid forced me to stay in Italy for pretty much all the second half of 2020!
In the meantime, here are two favourite spots of mine in Iceland, photographs from 2019 & 2020 respectively:
Seljalandsfoss at sunrise, 2 seconds, X1D & XCD 21mm
Reynisdrangar at sunset, 5 seconds, X1D II & XCD 45mm
Thanks for viewing & commenting! Have a great week, best regards
