p.s. thanks for the conversion update...that was a bit confusing but in the right direction for me I think! ....now I have 18-55, 28-200, 70-300...ALL set I think ...and I WILL take the 70-300 for my dog outing! I'm really looking forward to it!

I play golf and don't know how far (in yards) I hit the clubs but I know what it looks like and when I need a club I just know what to pick.
Same with lenses I think...which I why I wanted a DSLR...when I see it (and no waiting for developing!) I'll know....I just need practice!

I was scouring the internet and with a 10% off 'code' + a Tamron $50 rebate , I sprung for a Tamron AF03P-700 AF 28-200 mm f/3.8-5.6 XR Di Aspherical IF for Pentax for a really good price! That'll fill in the middle I think. Probably can use this one as a walk around everyday lense and keep the 18-55 in the bag. I don't think I'll lug the 70-300 around much.
70/ 1.5 = 46.6 300/1.5 = 200 that's the way I read the conversion.... ???? wrong?

Well I've had my K100D Super a few days now. Haven't been anyplace cool but have gone all over my house/yard. WOW the picks of my flowers with the K100D are AWESOME. MUCH Better than my p/s with 7.1 mp. Pictures of a big picture window with a reflection of a tree. Nothing awe inspiring but quality is great . (Best *** mode)
Everything is fairly intuitive to me -all the auto stuff. I'm a geek and I already have a canon point/shoot so no big deal. The preview was new though!
What I am not used to is the 18-55 lense...and no optical zoom and manual focusing. I have a 70-300 (eq to like 46x200 in Dslr land) ....
..now I really want a 18-250 but its NOT in the budget for now. I will have to switch lenses...inconvenient when you're not used to it.
This weekend I'm going to a local inside dog park kinda place (no sun but bright and lots of windows) with my camera (and not my dogs!..don't tell them!) to take pics of all the other dogs..moving, running, agility..should be fun. I am ONLY taking the 18-55 and seeing what all I can do with it.
That's all for now.

They wanted to sell me the K110D but nope..I really wanted the SR...so I found the K100D Super someplace else for less! So I have a Super but wouldn't have paid more for it....

No -never did it but never say never, right? I would love to have a duffle bag and a camera bag and just GO.......but here I am stuck in a cubicle in OHIO. :)

Call me old fashioned but I like to curl up with a BOOK and read to learn.
I bought some light reading on photography, it was cheaper than a class and I can practice for free.

I just bought this.... Case Logic Medium SLR Camera Bag > Camera Cases > Travel Accessories - eBags
for my K100D, kit lense, plus my Sigma 70-300, two sets (8AA) of eneloops batteries, lense cleaning cloth, very small sd card usb reader (incase I want to use it out of the camera on the road - like at a walgreens to print something out).
I don't have another other lenses but have some small crumpler cases I could add on as needed to the strap... if when I get some more.
I opted for a smaller case than a big one..but I'm a woman who always has a purse as a backup!

Hi all, thanks for the advice. I'm all set I think. I bought a Pentax SMCP-DA 18mm - 55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL II Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLRs and I have my Sigma 70-300. Thats ALL I'm going to spend for my occasional hobby for now. Can't wait to get everything...want to learn it in time so I can get some fall color pics of the Blue Ridge Mountains, suitable for blowup (not too big mind you) and framing :)

Thanks everyone...
I just did spring for a Pentax SMCP-DA 18mm - 55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL II Autofocus Zoom Lens for Digital SLRs. I don't shoot in 'weather' or marine environments so didnt' want to spring for the WR but the II got some good reviews over the original. I think I got a good price on it from adorama. So new K110D with this lense and it'll be fun! I also have a Sigma 70-300 but it's not an every day thing to lug around.
That 18-250 lens is on my wish list, though!

"everyday" means different things to everyone I know;
to me it's long distance shots in the Blue Ridge mountains....someday I'll get that picture to frame over my fireplace but I won't buy it!
pics of my dogs (always moving)
pretty flowers to print/frame
dog pics at shelters to post on websites
vacations; family...'normal stuff'
maybe real estate photography
What do you recommend? I have the K110D body on order....I have old 35mm pentax lenses but thought perhaps you all would recommend a new lense to replace my SMC Pentax-FA 28-50mm f3.5-4.7
Here your chance to help a DSLR newbie! Thanks in advance

Hi all...newbie here. I have a Pentax film SLR PZ-10. Hadn't used it in years (have had cannon p/s ..)
I didn't want to trash the two lenses so I picked up a K110D body only. It'll be here soon.
So I was hoping to get some pointers on what to expect using the lenses I have with the K110D.... the 28-50 that came with the PZ-10 and a Sigma 70-300 I bought for a Disney vacation (great pics with my pz-10!) back when..... they are KAF2 mounts.
a new toy....:D:p
