This may be true but you're missing Pal Jenson's point. Pentax needs to sell more apsc cameras to move forwards.
That brings me back to my point: What does a brand new K30 owner, or more importantly, a potential K30 owner who visits this forum for the first time make of all this whining and complaining. This torrent of insults directed at Pentax would put me off if I was lurking here. You FF guys are definitely hurting Pentax, kicking them when they are down. I have done my share of serious complaining too I admit it! But enough is enough, I don't want to kill the goose that lays the golden egg just because It's not a Faberge. I'm recalibrating my attitude.
You can't always get what you want in life? Anyone else notice this?
Thank's much for interview Adam.

my first contribution to this gallery, a picture of the 90 year old ground of my local football team: Royal Antwerp FC. Handheld 5 shot HDR (I just love the K-5's abillity to fire off 5 shots with one press of the shutter button), merged in photomatix, some adjustments (curves, tone, sharpening) in photoshop and denoised in Noiseware. Feedback much appreciated!

Pseudo means fake, they aren't HDR but simply toned map images.
The shots off his kids and with the truck are most likely pseudo because it would be hard to take 3 different exposure of that.
Nothing negatieve meant by it but they shouldn't be called HDR since they arent, that's all i'm saying.

No this is very welcome here! Like it or not (I like it) it is excellent processing. Forum member @Trig has posted many fine examples of extreme HDR mostly in the SIgma 10-20 and 8-16 threads in case anyone missed them. Hopefully he will stop by sometime.
I hope that this thread has some discussion and explanation of HDR techniques as well. Thanks for posting. :D

You are not doing anything wrong. When you take a long exposure, the camera does some processing to remove noise. Essentially it takes the same exposure with the shutter closed and then subtracts the "black" frame that has sensor noise only. That way the resulting image has significantly less noise. So for your 30sec exposure, there is a 30sec "correction".

The submissions to-date are fantastic and many are quite unique, a sign of a great working image. I could not do better than what is already here, but it's so much fun I couldn't resist trying. I use Aperture for my post processing. Thanks for the challenge. |

I wanted to turn it into an abstract and liked the flow of the water out from the lower "falls." So, I went with a 100% crop, and then adjusted the levels/curves/ and saturation to give it the feel of a 16th century oil painting, though they didn't really do abstract work back then. Here's what I came up with:

My K-5 decided to play in the snow and then sat down when it got tired.
Now we'll see how weather-resistant it REALLY is.

Great images in this thread and on this page.
Roland303, what a wonderful set, thanks neighbour!
Simon, great set as always, The Tai Ci Sunrise is spectacular, thanks!
Trig, words fail me. I'm not referring to just these images but to the body of your work that I've had the privilege of viewing. Outstanding and then some!

That's a rhetorical question to some degree, since it's only a "limit" if you need more than 5. I personally need more than 5 for my HDR panos (for 3D lighting), but that's a fringe case, and I stick with Pentax because I can also ExpComp two sets of brackets to cover the range I need (and toss the extras).
Notice I said "to cover the range I need" - the number of brackets in the AEB is only part of the equation. Consider this table of AEB by model/mfr which includes the net total ev that those brackets can cover. Pentax is doing quite well in the AEB area, especially given the DR of the sensor and the price of entry compared to an M9 or D3. For some HDRs, sure I'd like to press the shutter once to get 7 or 9 brackets at 3ev steps, but not enough to buy a Canon! ;)

When you shoot RAW, the camera applies all JPG processing to create the JPG that's embedded in the RAW file. These are the images you see when reviewing pictures in-camera. This is why histogram and highlight warnings you see in-camera are not necessarily accurate as they are the result of this processing (including compression or parts of the histogram for contrast changes, highlight and shadow clipping). Lens corrections are the same, i.e. they are applied on the embedded JPG but the RAW data is left untouched by them.

FINE ART photography is much like other FINE ART endeavours -- boring, pretentious, boring, uninspired, boring, technically arrogant, boring, etc... at least per many of the self-styled FINE ART practitioners I have suffered. You'll note that most FINE ART photography does not include images of people. Exception: female nudes, which are FINE ART when they're not explicit pr0n. Other exception: foreign peoples in exotic attire, as little of it as possible.
For example: After a long international journey upon which shutters were tripped many times, my other sorts through the images to select a set for illustrated talks before a local travel club. I work long and hard at PP to create many FINE ART images. My other selects a couple hundred pictures... NOT ONE OF WHICH are any of my FINE ART images. Why not? Because they are boring. It's the photojournalistic shots of people in places that are of interest, not my pretentious crap. I agree with the selections because I'm not a total moron; I too can see what's of interest to audiences and what isn't.
FINE ART photography is like masturbation. It's fun, but don't get caught at it.

Correct, the AF adjustment feature will only offset phase detect focusing. Live View focusing (contrast detect, face detect) will not be affected, as these are sensor based algorithms.

Not at the moment. We hope for the firmware. You can rotate the picture, as was in K20D.

I use GeoSetter. It writes the data directly into the RAWs and JPGs. Correct, not integrated into LR, but its just one more step when importing.
I saw your questions. But I need to try it out and the next chance is Friday only.
No. But I will ask specifically for a lens above 300mm now.
BTW, I updated the raw file post above to include a link to the original raw file (30MB though).
