It's true that taking a seriously multi-megabyte read-out off a big sensor is always going to be trickier and much more demanding than from a small sensor, and this limits things like frame-rates, live-view and so on. However, sheer speed isn't the reason folks are going to get into medium format, surely. It's the rendering and the look, quite apart from pure quality. And besides, the good enough bar will lurk somewhere in here. It just has to be "good enough" to appeal to enough people and then over time some improvements will come anyway. You'll probably never find it a good enough camera to follow Rob Roy at full tilt in the 3.30 at Towcester races but folks will start popping up saying they can do street with it fairly easily, etc, etc. A few nutters will appear claiming it's an ideal cam to take for a long vacation up the Amazon, etc. You know the bandwagon drill. Provided Fuji can deliver a fully supported system in the new few years, they do look to be on to quite a good thing here.

I would love to see Fuji bring the price of MF down to the $3,000 price point, but the glass is always going to be expensive. I really only need 3 lenses for what I would do with MF so its not a huge deal. I can see the GFX 50s dropping to the low $3,000s pretty soon. The Fuji GFX 100 is not far away and it looks like Pentax is going to replace the 645z with a new model in the near future. Used and discontinued 645z bodies will drop down into the $3000 range. My guess is that we see a back illuminated 100MP Sony sensor in the GFX 100 that has AF similar to the A7rII. That will be a very tough camera for Ricoh to compete against. Right now the GFX 50s is still rough around the edges and without PDAF on sensor it will never have very good AF in anything but bright light. I would have preferred that Fuji used the A7rII sensor and produced a 60MP camera.

I think that if there was a K-3 II replacement in the wings, we would hear about it by now, to meet an on-sale date of November.
Sounds like KP and a spare battery time to me. My 2 cents, worth about as much.

Some people can be soooo annoying. They ask for your opinion, you give it, and then they question or ignore you. But when I was seriously trying to decide on gear, I went to a Certain Intelligence Agency and found out at that time they were using Pentax 67 for most of their high res needs. Before then, I never seriously considered Pentax. Now I know better.

Wow...can't believe I read through all of that.
A few people definitely made some good points that I wholeheartedly agree with. Basically there are no bad cameras being made anymore so you just have to go with the system you personally like. Sounds like you prefer the Fuji setup. If you don't plan on doing much post processing than I think the Fuji will be fine for you. I mostly do portraiture, still-life and landscape so I never had any issues with AF on the Pentax system. I absolutely love the dynamic range that the K-1 gives me. An area where Fuji and Canon are both lacking when compared to Nikon, Sony, and Pentax. I like Fuji for the look and feel of the camera. I dig the retro vibe. I also like the video capabilities of the XT-2 especially after this latest firmware update but other than that I prefer the K-1. I have three friends in my area who own the Nikon D810 and two with the D750 all of which shoot portraits. They have stated that they are quite impressed by the output of the K-1 and the FA 85 in regards to portraiture. A few example shots: Brenda Lost in Thought by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Boots and Attitude by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Lip Service by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Sparks Fly by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Melbourne Sunset with Lauren by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Her Smile Melts the Sun by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Indrutt on the Boardwalk by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Marina in Mono by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Flower on the Boardwalk by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr Golden Hour with Marina by Christopher Rankin, on Flickr
Shots taken with external flash, natural light, ISO range from 100-1600. Both day and night. LR CC with Nik Efex plugins.

I see these types of posts fairly often. Here is the bottom line and it covers them all.......
If you have one of the major brands of cameras in 2017 and can't get decent to superb pictures from it, the problem has nothing to do with the camera and everything to do with you. They pretty much stopped making poor cameras a good while back. You may "prefer" this or that brand for various personal reasons, but the capabilities are there in all of them for excellent results. Fan boys hate to hear such "blasphemy".......but it is the unvarnished truth.:D
Regards!:)

Medium on the D850 is just under 26 MP. Really nice resolution I think... in the sweet spot.
I agree that 36 MP is too much for many situations and feel the same way about HDD bloat and processing times. Of course I wouldn't have understood this fully until experiencing it. But it is really really welcome in certain situations, I've found.
I wonder, if the D760 ends up using the same sensor, if it will in fact have the Medium resolution of the D850 as its max resolution? That could be interesting.

I used to. I just have realized over time that it is more about light, subject and composition than lens or camera body.
The only thing that nicer lenses let you do is shoot wide open without loss of sharpness. That and nicer in focus to out of focus transitions/better bokeh. But more often than not there are other things that make or break an image.

Cant go wrong with a GH4, but the GH5 is supreme and gets a lot more @ around double( or 2.5) the price....perhaps a used GH4/ Seeing the 5 is about to be realeased?
Also the Fuji XT20 has many of the features of the XT2 but no 2 card slots or weather sealing.

Then we could all joint the "1.2 only" club. They'd hate that. They think they are special. :D
I think they are paying Pentax not to make a 1.2. :D

Why not rent a D750/D810 and/or 5dIV and an 85mm 1.4/1.8 or 70-200mm 2.8 for a few days and see how you get on with them?

I think that has come from people over-praising the benefits of BBF and claiming it to be a magic cure all for focus issues. Which it most certainly is not. It will not make photos "more" in focus. But for those who gel with the technique, it will increase the number of in focus photos.
This thread honestly changed my life, way back when i first come across it.

Putting "18 cases of beer" on your tax return is sure to raise a few questions and guarantees the taxman will come to collect his percentage in person. Check your jurisdiction on how much beer you're allowed to be paid in before you have to report it to The Man, it's wise for the working pro to be familiar with the local regulations!

Lost in this discussion is that neither Premiere Productions or the photographer in Montreal have been charged with a crime, discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in employment, housing, and public and private accommodations is banned in Canada, but not wedding photography. There are quasi-legal human right tribunals all over Canada and there are examples where those tribunals have tried to extend discrimination bans to other areas, but their real power lies in public shaming. When the persecuted party is willing to pay the legal bills to fight against human rights tribunals, they have been able to secure their right to trial in a real court. Canadian courts have shown that they will enforce the ban against discrimination on the basis sexual orientation in matters of employment and housing, but beyond that there is little precedence. Canada also has hate crime laws, but in the few cases where the perpetrator has been successfully prosecuted, the punishment is limited to a cease and desist of publicly demonstrating their hatred. For a country of 35 million people, we also have our share of NGO's (who are often funded by the public purse) eager to justify their existence by stating that “You cannot discriminate against people on the basis of sexual orientation, especially in the case of commercial business services available to the public,” even if such a statement is wrong.
As the prospective marriage partner who contacted Premiere Productions said “I have like 29 photographers to go through now, so it brought some good in it.” Thank God for some common sense.

But a "business" isn't a person and thus doesn't have any religious rights. Here, the couple weren't dealing with a person, they were dealing with a business. If the belief of an employee isn't compatible with its business, he's free to work elsewhere, in a business more in line with its religion.

You can't change peoples' feelings and preferences. People are not the same, like it or not. The photographer has right to choose his customers. The gay couple has right to choose their photographer. If they like each other, they can make a deal. That's freedom.
You can force the photographer to shoot people he does not like. You can even close his business entirely. But the freedom will be gone.
