Great photos!
The BAA better not see them though! Runner 24658 and drummer boy in #5 could have DQ.
How close does the marathon come to fenway?

Lots of good advice. After doing some thinking and well um, budgeting. Quickly realized that well this advice is probably the best for me.
That and probably the ultrapod and remote because I've already been told that I'm taking over camera duties at family functions.
It'll get me started and get a good feel for what exactly I'll be doing, where I'm going and what equipment I'll need. Who knows, I could end up hating stoping hiking to take pictures but love going down the street and take random ones.
Doubt that happens but still. And a bit down the road my budget will and could be substantially larger. When that happens, I'll definitely be coming back to this thread.

I'm mainly looking to do nature scenes as I do a lot of hiking.
I wasn't sure about the tripod, the guys at the local shop where of no help and I could find any definitive answers about what worked. But if I am going to go 100+ for a tripod, I'd like to work for a while.
As for the Hoya set: UV, Polarizer and a warming filter.

Another silly noob question. I'd just rather do one order than have to pay the UPS man multiple times.
K100D w lens kit
5 year warranty (are the Mack's worth the price)
Lowe Pro Bag
Hoya Filter set
Bogen / Manfrotto 715B Digi Black Tripod with Ballhead (Quick Release) - Supports 2.2 lb (1 kg)
Comes to grand total of 700 after rebate, about what I was wanting to spend. I've got a good collection of the other stuff (memory, readers, blah) and will get that local but nobody around me is even close to B&H's price with the rest of the stuff.
What's this teleconverter business I keep reading about.
Thanks!

Great shots.
#1 is an Australian Sheperd. I'm almost sure of it (I've got one) but I'd have to see a more sideways facial structure to be sure.
#2 is a Great Pyrenees. Both #1 and #2 really capture the essence of the breeds.
Good work.

I searched through the archives and found a varying consensus on what was typically regarded as a good "intro" lens for doing landscapes.
I hike a ton and want to jump into taking pictures of some of the views I get, ala broad sweeping mountain views. I'll be taking general ones with the lens kit.
At this point my budget is not very much 200 is on the higher higher end and I'd just like something to get me started.
Thanks.
