I love your fox kids. I have never gotten a shot of young'uns. I have regular visits from both a male and a female but no sign of babies. I am quite jealous. :D

There is still time to save you!
Rupert is very good at deviously posting these shots of the "cute" squirrels and convincing unsuspecting, goodhearted people to feed them. Your life will become a living Hell of round the clock squirrel care. Driving out in blinding blizzards to get more food, hauling 20-40lbs bags, filling and refilling, and refilling feeders and if you are slow to refill they start climbing up on your windowsills and pawing the screens to let you know that the feeder is empty and for all this, they allow you a few shots.
Don't do it!
Check out the girth on this squirrel.
The squirrels brought hawks looking to swoop in for a quick squirrel lunch. At first I felt I needed to protect my little "cuties".
No one needs to worry, this was just a joke a couple of years ago for Rupert. The gun was not loaded. LOL
The squirrels, or rather the squirrel food, also brings mice, which then bring these.
Now we have this visitor also looking to lunch a few good squirrels. Three years in to this squirrel feeding nightmare he is a welcome visitor.

John, once again, thank you for your input. I may end up going with one of the whole studio packages but I have to decide just how much "stuff" I want to deal with. This will be used in my livingroom so it will have to be taken down right after use. Sigh......
What are your thoughts on hair lights? Do you use them? Do you find them useful?

Those continuous fluorescent boxes are exactly what I have been shopping around for. Do you mind telling me what brand they are? I have found some that are REALLY expensive and others that are REALLY cheap so I am looking for recommendations.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread but what plugin are you referring to? The only one I found required Outlook Office which I don't have and didn't want to buy just for the sake of emailing from LR. Is there another one? I would be thrilled!

Since you qualify for the academic discount, why don't you just get both? The total for both would be under $200, far less the $300 you were considering spending on just LR.
I am not a pro but I use and love LR for processing photos both Raw and jpeg and find it easier to use than Elements for this purpose. However, I do not have thousands of images to catalog and actually find the Organizer of Elements to be easier to use for my cataloging needs.
I also prefer some of the features of Elements as a casual photographer that pros may not find as useful. For instance, it is much easier to email a photo from the Elements Organizer than it is from LR. Elements will walk you through several "artsy" layout and frame choices and then its off to Grandma with a click.
I would not willingly give up either program as I would greatly miss each of their benefits.

While I really like my Manfrotto Neotec monopod which someone suggested in an earlier post I would not recommend it for your client. At 51kg she is pretty small and I am 56kg with fairly large hands for a woman and find the grip on the Neotec to be uncomfortably large. I think she would rapidly tire from simply gripping it as it was most certainly designed for man sized hands.

Sorry they don't have one you want. You can order from Feisol directly if you want. I have heard good reports from people who have done that.
I have the PC-33NS ballhead from Photoclam. It is their small head as I wanted it for the very compact Feisol Traveller legs. The ballhead is really very, very nice. I also have a Markins M20 and I would say that the quality of the Photoclam is on a par with the much more expensive Markins. I am also very impressed with their QR clamp and plate. All in all, a very nice setup.

Sorry to hear you were not able to locate what you wanted in HK. I recently purchased a Fiesol Traveller Tripod and Photo Clam head from here:
Really Big Cameras
They are very good to deal with and are having a Spring special right now. Love the tripod and head, by the way.

This looks really nice. A very soft and gentle light.
Had to laugh, though. Black dog- black couch - good thinking! When it comes to dog hair, if the mountain wont come to Mohammad then the wise Mohammad goes to the mountain.

Yes, it can be a little confusing at first. LOL
A few things that helped me, ironically, pointed out to me by someone over on DPreview:
Click on User CP then on the left side scroll down to Settings & Options>Edit Options. From here you can adjust how you view things here as well as subscribed to threads which is basically "My Thread."
Also at the top of this page, Quicklinks is very helpful. Clicking on Today's Posts list post since your last visit, assuming you visit everyday. It list post from all catagories.

Hi mtngal,
A really good tripod and head are a delight to use and I would heartily recommend that you go with the best you can afford.
My needs were a little different in that I really needed sturdy to be the priority and weight secondary. I ended up with a carbon fiber Velbon Sherpa 740, which is a very sturdy 4 section tripod. I have a Markins M20 head with a Kirk L bracket.
I am pretty short as well 5'2" and I had the same idea as you about not extending the fourth section. As you check out the various specifications for the tripods you are considering make sure you check the maximum height w/o the column extended. You will want to get the tallest one you can if you don't want to use the fourth section. Divide that max. height by 4 and you will have an appoximate idea of the length of the sections. If you subtract that amount from the max. height you will be able to tell just how tall you tripod will be without that fourth section. Add you camera height to that, put a mark on the wall and see if you will be comfortable doing that much bending. You could add one of those right-angle view finder thingies put that would just be more to carry and more weight.
I agree with you about the Bogen/Manfrotto flip locks. They are difficult to use and tend to catch on things.
Good luck with your quest. I spent the better part of a year researching which, at least, gave me the time to save as much as the whole darn thing ended up costing! LOL

I am so sorry to hear of your troubles. I know it sounds cliche but on the other side of this you will be a stronger and wiser person.
And it would not be a bad thing at all to allow your photography to be an outlet for what you are going through. Most of the great artists of the world created out of personal anguish.
Keep your chin up (now that really IS cliche) and be there for your boys.
