pef files rejected by Lightroom but dng ok

You might want to update your Lightroom. I just confirmed PEF from my K7 works fine in Lightroom 2.6.

I remember there being an issue but can't remember the details. I'm sure the fix was just to refresh Lightroom.

Having said that, I switched to DNG with the K7 months ago. The K7 DNG files are no larger than the PEF files, the only reason I used PEF on the K20D is the compression.

Hi. I've not been able to figure out exactly what triggers dfs in the k20d and k7 either. They have different dfs on/off behavior and I concluded that there are a more factors than just shutter time. Here is a thread where I didn't get anywhere.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/82645-high-iso-cam...7-vs-k20d.html

I'm still curious and I'd be glad if anyone can confirm it is hard to predict which shots dfs will be kicking in.

let me try to reply again. i posted a reply few hours ago and the forum software said it was sending it to "moderation".

Marc, thanks for the reply. makes sense. my question is still out there though, i only get the delay in between 6 second exposures when i set the iso to 800 or above.

is this the way it is or am i doing something wrong?

i made the connection to high iso because if i set the iso to 200 i can run the 6 second exposures one after another with no delay in between. if i then set the iso to 1600 and make no other changes there is then a 6 second processing delay in between each 6 second exposure. i had thought the mandatory dfs only kicked in after 30 sec or more bulb mode shots but i guess not.

thanks, -ed

Thanks for the reply. Makes sense. But regardless of the high ISO NR not being relevant, I made the connection to high ISO because the delay only happens when I have ISO set at 800 or above.

If I set ISO to 100 it will shoot one exposure after another without the 6 sec processing delay between 6 second exposures. If I then change the ISO to 1600 and make no other adjustments, the intervening 6 sec delay between shots kicks in. I posted because I had thought this delay was only for 30 sec or longer shots and was hoping there was something I was doing wrong.

Hi all, first post,

With the K20D, if I take 10 second ISO 1600 shots in continuous shooting mode, the camera will churn for 10 seconds processing (presumably DFS) after closing the shutter and before opening the shutter for the next shot.

Various threads indicate that mandatory DFS only happens after 30 secs in bulb mode. Other threads say 15 secs in any mode. But my experience is that it happens for any exposure at ISO 800 and above and I've tweaked the high ISO noise settings all ways. Wonder what I've got wrong?

Last night I ran a K7 side by side with the K20D taking continuous 6 sec exposures and the K7 did not pause between shots. Is the K7 processing just fast or is it not doing DFS for exposures only 6 secs long? This is what I want the K20D to do too, what I thought could be done based on what I've read in other threads.

Thanks for any help! -Ed
