I was there for over 8 hours . With all the group/family shots I had to take multiple multiples because everyone seemed to blink at the wrong time :ugh:. And then there were the 2.5 fps runs during the entrance and exits etc. Then there were all the afternoon tea and then reception shots. . I suppose I may have over done it but I didn't want to miss anything.
I kinda struggle with the PP (I'm still learning) but 'have book, will learn'. haha

Feedback is greatfully accepted and more or less agreed with. :)
The couple (especially the bride) HATE having thier photos taken. I tried a few posed shots and they they looked so uncomfortable that I just moved them around and told them to relax and stand/sit how they want. Maybe not the best thing to do but the best I could come up.
Once they have a look at the final products I shall report back with the response.

With the photos or with each other?
They haven't seen the photos yet and they seemed happy with each other. ;)
I'll post some more as I get through the PP.
I took some 700 shots so I'm now realising that the hard work starts now n sorting and tweaking.

So here is a selection of the photos from my first wedding shoot.

So on the day, I had scouted some nice parkland however as we stepped outside to go to the location, the sky opened up and it started to rain.
So I ended up improvising. I got all the traditional kind of posed shots but I really like these ones because they really show the joy and happiness that this day should be remembered for.
Taken with Pentax K20D and *ist DS, FGZ360 and VERY old Vivitar speedlights and wireless triggers.
Comments welcome.

Also, if you are using a DSLR, you will find that the information about the shot (ISO, shutter, appeture, metering mode... etc) will be attached to each image in the metadata.
You can view this information with the Pentax Photo Browser software that would have come with your camera.
I find it very useful to go and take a heap of shots and play with the settings.
In the old days I would have to take notes to remember what I did for each shot and after processing look at how each setting affected the result.
So using the advice above in the other posts, with the Pentax software, you can see what each turn of the appeture ring will do for example. And get almost immediate feedback.
After a while you'll get a feel for what each 'setting' change will do.
I will add that I use the camera's metering and then make the changes that I want to get the desired effect (i.e. more depth of field, more motion blur, sharper image... etc).
Hope this helps,

Fantastic thread. I too had a wedding (my first) to shoot on the weekend just passed.
The father of the bride is a good friend of mine and they didn't have a photographer so I volunteered my limited skills (and shiny new K20D ;)). They were planning on just having the guests take snaps.
I tried to follow as much of the advice here as I could. But I must say it was one of the more stressful things that I have done in my life.
Next time (if there is a next time) I gonna try and find a trusted assistant.
Anyway. I had the father of the bride over last night and went through some of the photos and started the PP. He was fairly impressed, but it's not him who I need to impress ;)
I'll start a new thread tonight with some of the photos and will invite your comments.
Thanks again for the great advice!
Oh yeah... and during the closing speech I was the first one mentioned by the groom showering me with thanks and gratitude. :D

EDIT: New thread with photos here.

I just came back to the office for lunch toting my shiny new K20D and 18-55DA AL II. :D:D:D:D
All I want to do now is go home and start learning how to use it. I suspect it will be a little more advanced than my trusty *ist DS :-)

Huh? No mirror. It's just that I wanted to include some of the burned trees in the frame. But I was thinking of flipping the image so the flag was the right way. :)

I used to be until I 'cracked' it for just a little too long. Wiped out the bike and almost myself. And now my wife won't let me get another bike for some reason

Fantasic mountain!
I really like #s 4 and 7.
Not about #2...
I grew up in Canada (west coast) so I really miss the mountains here in Australia.

I went up to Kinglake, Victoria and wanted to try and get some photos that would show some of the devastation and the recovery.
I failed. The destruction was so immense that there was no way that I could record it an a few pixels. Looking across a wide valley and only seeing burned trees as far as the eye could see. The ground that even six months on still could not support grass or other plants.
Driving past empty lots with just a Hills Hoist clothes line and some white crosses (these I would not photograph out of respect) and some lots where the rebuilding has now started.
I really hope these speak for themselves...

So I was very excited to get my radio triggers in the post yesterday. So I grabbed my gear and the kids and went to "One Tree Hill" near where I live.
While it was a very blustery day, I would not be denied my attempts at taking some portraits.
So here they are – my fist attempt at off camera flash using my 360FGZ. I tried to use the sun as a light source and ballance it with the falsh as I had read in the Strobist Lighting 101.
All of them were at 1/180 f4 using Sigma 70-300 DL with polarizer. Once I got the flash distance and output right I used the exposure compensation on the camera to try to get the exposure reasonable.
(I don't like the shadow on the face but not sure what to do about it )
I think if I had another low power flash in front of the camera the result might be better. Unfortunatly I only have one flash and the popup on the *ist DS doesn't popup with the transmitter on :hmm:.
Comments or suggestions welcome. :)

These are kind of old so I can't remember all the details except they were shot with Velvia 50 on an MZ-6
I will have to troll through my PC and find some of the shots that I've decided to frame and hang on my wall.

Well done to your grandson. It's always great to see photos from kids because the generally see the world completley differently to us. And their photos often reflect that.
You should take him somewhere interesting and let him go. See what he comes up with.
PS... My son took some very quirky shots when he was nine. The compisitions were quite unusually. Unfortunatly he had a cr@p camera at the time so the exposures weren't that great.

Hmmm... Where to start.
Off-camera flash... (I'm off to the local botanic gardens this weekend with a sunny day forecast with my *ist DS, 360FGZ, tripod, reflector, shiny new radio triggers and my family who I will hope won't get too bored and grumpy).
Spend more time with my 12yo son teaching him what little I know about photography (although I might just let him go and see what he comes up with).
Trying to find some devious way to buy a K20D without triggering divorce proceedings.
Oh... And buying a SMC-A 50mm cheap!

Hi there,
This time from Victoria...
I have had Pentax kit for about 25 years starting with the Program Plus and now with the *ist DS (and eyeing off the K20D)... I still have my MZ-6 which doesn't get much use (although my 12 year old son seems to have commandeered it).
I have the obligatory short zoom and long zoom lenses, a AF360FGZ flash and a bunch of filters.
I have dabbled in all kinds of styles, however I think I like my landscapes, cityscapes and outdoors the most.
That said I really want to do more portrature (outdoor) and play with off-camera flash etc.
Cheers,
Baggy
