Portraits in Monochrome

This beautiful young gal is a real trooper. She is bright and well adjusted and a happy young girl. She is a great friend to my daughter and comes over to play often. I took the opportunity to take a few portraits of her and this one speaks volumes as to how stoic and strong she has become. She lost her mom to cancer 3 years ago and it was a tough time on the family. She struggled for a few years as you can imagine a child would. I know she misses her mom tremendously. Dad is doing a great job of raising her and the older brother. Words that best describe her: serious, perseverance, strong, stoic, life long friend just to name a few. She is truly a beautiful person.

I used a 3 light setup Key, Fill, and Hair lights with three 540 flashes and pocket wizard II"s.

FYI
I have not entered this contest before and reduced my image to 1400 on the long side. I hope it does not degrade the image too much.

Premiere CC and K5 issues

I am having issues with editing in Adobe Premiere CC and the k5. All my videos come in to the software as black and white and a banding of rolling video. I can edit it fine in Premiere 5.0 everything looks great there. My k01 and k3 are fine "IF" I shoot in 24, 30, or 60 frames. 25 and the 50 give me the same results in CC on all my cameras. Anyone have a fix for this. I have the most current firmware on the k5 as well as my k01 and k3

very entertaining, nice choice in music. Love the different POV. Could have spread the eye candy out a little bit in the video, (flag girl) Slow motion was used very nicely!!! Nice B roll away from action!!!!
Great edit!!!

Note, those tires the men were standing behind aren't going to stop one of those machines LOL

nice first video...just some hints. you have several shots where the person reaches across the camera and blocks the view. This would be a great time to desolve into 2nd camera ...arm blocks and then you cut to the other camera. Its a technique often used in showing time. IT happens a few times and one in particular is at the 4:59 mark. Also like another viewer stated. it took way to long to show 2nd camera. and

nicely done!!! I loved the perspective shot at 2:00, the ladder shot at 4:03....and a bit of continuity issue at the 4:37, with the glasses off, glasses on. Music fit the theme perfectly!!! And like a user said above. you broke the 180 degree rule, but heck, rules are meant to be broken and it did not bother me too much.
different angles and the like were nicely edited!!! :)

A few of us got together and entered the 72 hour Film Festival in Tacoma, Wa. The Grand Cinema puts this on every. year. We are now old pros at this. It's our second year LOL. A few of us are gearheads and used a variety of tools. Canon 5D, 7D, Nikon 7000D, and of course my Pentax K5 and K01. Merlin steady cam. Crane, skate, dolly, GoPro with suction cups.
here is the link to the trailer:

EchoOscar,
Yes I was an audience member. Great class. I also purchased the Sue and Hailey class. They both were great. Hailey admitted she was not into the tech side of things and I could tell, but thats OK she does such a great job with the film. With the balloon, How would you ahve focused. THat was a bit frustrating to me that no noe figured it out....
I would have taken the camera and held it at the bottom of the balloon and put a paper with writing on it where the camera was to lay. Then focused....From that point on I know Hailey was fairly run and gun type shooter, but again, that is ok, I loved her way of teaching.

Eulogy,
Thank you. IT was fun to shoot. A bit more difficult to edit and get it to the 2 min mark (or less) Also finding music that I liked and was a bit more upbeat that some of the soft stuff most entrants were using. I wanted to make mine just a bit different.

I entered a challenge that Sue Bryce and Hailey Bartholomew put on for the Month of Feb. Before commenting just know there was no theme other than shoot film each day of Feb and first 2 days of March and edit it to music. The total video had to be 2 min or shorter. Again No therme other than shoo video every day. It was fun to get the camera out and shoot. I was already shooting video every day as I put a personal project on my plate to shoot video every day in 2013. Then edit it down to 365 seconds. I am still on track to get the footage.

I used the 30 days to get warmed up with my edit for the year. For this project I was able to average 4 seconds of clips a day. Some days were shorter than others. I think I have 65 clips in the final edit. My daughter even got in on the shoot controlling the jib at the 44 second mark.
Comments welcome.

paranoia23,
Do you own the glide cam? How do you like it? Is it easy to balance or use?

Have you used the Model iNicole is asking about? Just wondering what the difference is. Anyone use a fig-rig type device?

Camparing the k5 vs the k01 slow motion

I am Comparing how the subject (dog) looks in slow motion. Notice on the k5 the tail of the dog is much more blurry when she runs. I already knew this would happen as the k5 can only shoot in 30FPS (i shot in 25) and the k01 will give me 60 frames and does a much better job in Slow motion. This was a video to compare the 2 camera. However, I think the k5 does an overall better job in regular speed.

Yes,
it slowed the audio as well. There is a way in post to not slow down audio but just know they will not sync. I edited in Premiere cs5/6 WHen changing to 25% it stretchs the audio out to the same length as the video.

A noticable difference, but I know there would be. Going at full speed it appears the k5 does a better job depending on light. Thoughts? Comments?

Very nice work for a k7. What lens did you use? Did you change color setting in the camera at all or leave them alone? ANy glide cam, sliders used at all to make the film.
What software did you use to edit the video?

Very nicely done and thank you for sharing. I think this video forum needs more people like you sharing your work and a converse back and forth on how you did your shots, scenes, editing etc...There is not a lot of pentax video info out on the web.
