"This is probably not a great intellectual contribution here by me but I thought I mention it anyway as sometimes the simple things are overlooked.
Greetings from hot and sticky Cambodia"
Every lesson learned the hard way, helps. I tried to duplicate the problem by rattling off the images at 7fps until i got about 300. But no problem. But that might be a different set of events to what triggered the initial problem.

Has this only happened with the K5? I also have two 8gb Dane-Elec cards I used in my K200D and never had a problem with them. I might have to use them for stuff for paying clients. It's no good me doing a photoshoot for portraits or wedding, and images gone. What happens if I cannot recover them? Is it the card or the camera, Any ideas? |

Hi. A strange thing happened today! I took several DNG photos, some with Live View and some normal using one of my User modes. I was able to review the shots, make changes to exposure etc, and take more. All of which I could review. Switched off the camera.
A couple of minutes later I switched it back on and none of the shots were there! About 300 old images were, but none of the shots just taken! I though that maybe I had been using the Preview lever instead of the shutter release so I tried again with the shutter release to make sure.
I took some more which I was able to review. But guess what happened when I switched off the camera and switched it back on. None of the new shots present.
When I got home, I deleted all images. And tried again. Problem gone. I hope!! Has anyone had this happen?
At the time of shooting, I was using a K5 with 16GB Transcend class 10 card. DA 16-45mm and DA 18-55mmWR

You are completely correct. The Cosina seems to be very good image quality wise. Some respects it is even better. Such as lateral chromatic aberration and longitudinal aberration at shorter distances. It is a complete bargain.
I have one of my images on iStockphoto accepted and downloaded using this lens. Young Woman Outdoors | Royalty Free Stock Photo Image | iStockphoto.com
Many thanks

Ciao Alex.
I have both a Cosina 50mm f/2 and a Pentax 50mm A f/1.7 both in superb codition. I have done tests in the past and was surprised at the good results from the Cosina.
The Cosina seems easier to get consistently sharp results. The Pentax seems to be less consistent with sharpness. Amazingly sharp at times and then the next shot, of the same subject at the same distance, nothing is in focus. This sometimes is true with the Cosina. More the camera's fault than the lenses.
Cosina made lenses for some big names.
I will do more tests and post a link to the images. It will be interesting to see the results.
I have analysed several test images taken outdoors, and the two lenses are very close in image quality. The Cosina is much better at very close distances. And has surprisingly good control of flare.

I've been reading through the excellent posts and discovered that I am not the only one with a dodgy aperture ring on my 50mm 1.7 A as a result of a broken tab - a common problem. Following advice in posts, I managed to get the the lens useable again. But no A function
I have bent the spring that goes under the chrome bullet and spring assemblythat forms the electrical contact as the spring is now is L shaped! It no longer pushes up with enough force. I tried again but no joy, the contact gets pushed in and stays in as the lens is attached to the camera. At the moment the lens works like an M series, but Iwould like the electrical contact to work properly again.
Just wondering if anyone has had success with replacing the spring with a bit of rubber or similar?
What would happen if I dispense with the spring and make the contact protrude permanently?
Any Ideas? I would be very grateful, as would those who have lost the spring!

I too had the same query about the little brass item shown in your lens cap. I eventually realised it goes under the chrome bullet and spring assembly.
