A few shots with the 8-16mm on the K-1 showing the difference between 16mm and 8mm cropped. The vignetting is fairly heavy at both focal lengths but more so at 16mm.

I would certainly want the documentation, especially for such an expensive lens. Even if it doesn't matter for warranty purposes, the absence of any paperwork could reduce the lens's value on the used market if you ever decide to sell it.

Hi all, I've been a fan of this thread for a long time but never had a chance to contribute. I've bought and sold this lens twice before, and each time I regretted it. I eventually picked up another SMC version and finally got the chance to reacquaint myself with it last month in Toronto. Here are a few pics from my trip.
One question I have: I've noticed that sometimes the lens provides a very clean starburst, but other times the starburst is a little sloppy, such as in the first and fourth pictures below. Does anyone know whether this is an issue with my lens or is this normal behavior for the 15mm?

Selling in the marketplace used to be great. Unfortunately, it's been much more difficult for me lately. Perhaps the heavily discounted prices at authorized dealers like B&H and Adorama have made people less willing to buy used. Selling on greedbay (I like that name UncleVanya) is definitely more expensive but at least you know your item will sell.

If you got a good deal on the 15mm and it's a good copy, I would keep it. I sold off two copies of this lens and regretted it both times.
I would then go the 20-40mm/60-250mm route.

I had a d600 for several months, and while it produces amazing images, Nikon's prime selection just doesn't appeal to me.

The 60-250mm is a fantastic lens. I think it could very well work for candid portraits: the bokeh is pleasing and you have the flexibility of shooting from a distance. You may want to try it out before you spend money on another lens. I have a 50-135mm also and it's a terrific lens, but I decided I could part with it because I also have the 77mm.

The images coming from my 60-250mm make me smile when I look at them, and that makes it worth the money for me. I'd rather have one lens that makes me very happy than two or even three lenses that just get the job done. But that's my particular lens buying strategy and everyone is different.
