Went for calcium but I will also keep the FA 77 ltd. Way too good lens to sell. And could use it on the 5d also with minor non damaging tweak.
And in case Pentax will give us a FF some day...

tamron v sigma flash on k-7

Normally you shouldn't experience any problems. Your flash is supposed to be compatible with your camera and if you are using TTL metering, exposure will be calculated on what
is coming through the lens, no matter what lens you use (maybe some exceptions with old lenses, dunno).

Since your lens is a recent one, you shouldn't experience any problems.
I have a sigma macro flash (for sale, anyone interested?) on my k7 using a tamron 90mm SP Di macro and no problems at all.

If you still have doubts you could still go to your local shop and ask them to test the flash.

Just added some comments about new choices in the first post.
Please post some remarks / comments / ... about this.

Some say certain modifications should be made to make this poll more accurate and it would be great if it could be
so this poll can have a real impact.

Thanks for your support ;)

Of course, if you have 235 K mount lenses ( ) I would not change too.
I will sell my K7 because if I keep it, I'll lose money and I probably won't use it even if my attachment to the brand makes me want to keep it.
But I'll keep my 77mm Ltd, definitely!

This is just a joke. A wink to all those this-brand-is-better discussions that make no sense. Please do not take this seriously ;)

Yes, for the need for wide open in low light, no matter if it's FF or APS-C. I said that already ^^
The shallow DOF is definitely number one reason for wanting FF. It makes a lot of difference and some clients notice it.
The ultra wide angle is another reason, although not as important.
Lower noise.. well, if I had bought a K5, I would have lower noise also.
Higher MP shots: an advantage but not a deciding factor. I never would by a D800 for example. Way too much MPs.
But it allows to have some more detail in the picture, which you can also notice without pixel peeping, in some conditions.

If you're looking at percentages, indeed, you need the whole market to make a judgment. If you're looking at numbers ( 3000 people want FF), you don't care.
Yet I have to agree that 3.000 on say 20.000 give a more precise idea because they could compare those numbers with real market sales.
So I'll add that idea on post 1 ;)

Someone knows if a poll can be modified (should be, by adding a column in the DB)? Adam, are you out there :) (if not, I'll PM)?

Indeed, film is still an option but for a lot of people, doing film is quite expensive, except if you have access to a lab.
I know a certain number who'd love to use film but the costs or not having a lab holds them back.
If you are pro, you can bill this to the client, no problem. Because you define your price in relation with your costs.
But if you are not pro, or on the way to, you do some things for free, in order to have a solid book and I couldn't afford doing things for free in film.

This is the reason I put this poll in the DSLR section and not SLR. If film were cheaper or if I could add a lab in my flat, I would buy me a 645 or an old blad (have a K1000 too).
So this poll is not asking for people using film to answer the poll. No offense ;) Doesn't exclude they can participate in the discussion.

For the option "I don't want full frame" well, it is kind of unnecessary because this poll is only adressed to those who want a FF. Hence the title of this post.
No offense again ;)

I agree this will leave out the majority who doesn't want a FF but this is not the point of the poll. The major point is to find out how many switched already.
An additional info is that this will count the number of people who would like a FF. This question is already answered by the petition (3000+ ?) but I thought it could be
useful to have a graph that has all in one (concerning FF). In the petition, there weren't any people saying they don't care. Here it's the same ^^
I also know that this will exclude all those who switched and don't come back to pentaxforums... but that's the game.

I have my reasons for wanting a FF. Not using superfast lenses at f1.2 or so, I need that anyway. Because I do a lot of shooting in low light conditions so the extremely high shutterspeeds are not my problem.
Some people buy FF (they probably don't even know the difference between APS-C and FF) because they have money and want the most expensive thing. I've seen a lot of those people.
They're not good photographers but they don't care or worse, think they are really good ones. They have the best and they like it and for them, it's the better the camera, the better the pictures
(yes, I agree it can help but the K5 is not FF, not excessively priced and yet an excellent performer).
Everyone has it's reason. Maybe you are right about the reason even if you don't need FF for that.
That's also the reason why I repeat several times to give reasons for switching or wanting FF. :)

About the point of not looking for a canikon beating FF, I agree. I was not looking for that too. Just wanted a reasonably priced (not 6.000 euro or dollar) FF. I want Pentax, but there is none.
So the only option for digital FF is switching. The additional questions are there to see where people are going, not to judge if Ca or Ni is better than Pentax.
This question has a universal everlasting answer and that's why we are all here

Maybe I should have added "if there will be a Pentax FF, I'll buy one" but at the end, it's the same as sticking with Pentax and waiting for one to come out, option 1, because you're a
potential Pentax FF buyer.

Any other remarks are welcome.. maybe we'll start it all over again with the good questions.. I'll keep following and note remarks in post 1 (but not now ^^ work to do).
If later we have a new poll-plan with questions that could satisfy every FF wanting person, we could do it over and maybe ask Adam for some support so more people could answer.
I want this poll to be usefull, not just another poll that will be lost over time.

Haha :) Sorry for laughing but this is what the poll is about. See first sentence in first post:
Note: This poll only concerns switching because of a lack of a Pentax FF. So if you think of switching for other reasons, please don't vote.

I can understand that people are not interested in FF. I wasn't also. But every question/answer in the poll is related to FF.

What kind of answers were you thinking about?

First error in the poll..

6 people switched (4 keeping their gear) but apparently there is one person that bought something that must be quite unique ^^ (not Ca, Ni, Sn or other brand)
2 Ca + 2 Ni + 1 Sn = 6?

I switched because I have certain needs (my clients have even more) that Pentax cannot fullfill, unfortunately.
So I bought the Ca 5D mk iii with 70-200 ii and a Sigma 50mm 1.4 (next is extender, 100mm L macro and a wide angle).

I discovered the joy of FF and waw!
I'll probably sell the K7, even if I like it very much, along with the 77mm Ltd. Even if there is noise, it gives excellent results in B&W, no need to add grain ^^
Now I'll have to work in manual to have the same result, and maybe add grain...

But the in-focus / out-of-focus transition is nicer for the eye. And also more detail: important for macro, packshots, ...

Come-on Pentax. Join the FF market and I'll probably jump back!

Proposal for Poll modifications:
- add a choice: I am currently not interested in a Pentax FF body
- add a choice: I am currently not interested in a Pentax FF body but I maybe would buy one if available

Another FF post, again?
Well yes... I adore Pentax but on the way to pro, I needed a full frame. I waited and waited and tried to predict the future, as many amongst us.
The recent interview of Pentax by PentaxForums unveiled a tiny piece of the veil.
Result? Well, don't count on a 'near future' release. Seems Pentax strategy is to hit as many people as possible.
In other words: delivering possibly innovative, different-from-the-others top quality products to normal people with low to mid-ranged budgets.

Of course there are some nice jewels among the lenses but high quality lenses are expensive in general and not having such lenses would describe
Pentax as an amateur player in the photographic market, which it is not, despite being far behind sales of Nickel and Calcium.

What about the poll?
I would like this post to be a sticky as reference and keep statistics so this can be used to show it to Pentax.
Statistics about how many people would buy a FF and more important, how many changed ship already ( how many buyers did Pentax lose).
Even if you still own a Pentax but bought a non Pentax FF, please participate also.

If you want, please give reasons for switching (or not). It could be interesting to have additional information.

Some explanations about this poll and it's propositions:
Vote 1/ I will never switch and wait desperately and infinitely for a Pentax FF if:
At this moment, you would love to buy a FF but for some reason (please post), you want to believe in Pentax and thus, you stick with the brand,
even if the Pentax FF will be released in year 2045.

Vote 2/ I am thinking about switching if:
You absolutely want a FF camera (or you would like to buy one) but you hesitate. Do I wait for Pentax or not?

Vote 3/ I joined the dark forces and switched if:
You switched and sold or are thinking of reselling your Pentax gear. Let us know why.

Vote 4/ I switched but I'll keep my Pentax gear, definitely, because I still have hope if:
You switched but you keep your Pentax stuff, hoping Pentax will be clever enough to release a FF body sooner or later.
Because you like the brand and don't want to lose money you invested in that brand or whatever reason. Please tell us.

Additional vote:
If you switched, what was your choice?
You can post why you did choose that brand (= what does it offer what Pentax does not have).

Hi all,
the lens will travel to Deni today or tomorrow (was overloaded with work and activities this week). Just have to take some pictures of this place in France, in addition to Sydney and Vanuatu ^^

Who is calculating the distances here? Because for me you can add Poitiers - Paris - Hong Kong - Sydney - Port Vila, Vanuatu - Sydney - Singapore - Paris - Poiters. This will add a lot of kilometers :D

Those who said to ftpaddict that he's not passionate enough because he doesn't has expensive lenses...

Hi everyone.

Sorry for the way too late reply!!!

In fact, just got it on time and traveled with the Nifty.
First stop in Hong Kong, just to jump on another airplane.

Little anecdote:
after passing HK hand-luggage check. I took ou the camera because there
was an interesting scene going on. So, took out the camera (no forbidden camera signs like I saw in Australia) and shot a few pictures.

Suddenly, a lady looks at me with razor eyes, said a few words to her colleagues and then 4-5 people came all to me at the same time, including police officers.
So, had to format the memory card (lucky for me, there were no other pictures on it) and show them it was empty.
(Pentax, I needed a second SD slot ) They checked by themselves, but the lady had some difficulties to find how to look at pics in memory.

After 5 minutes, they let me go.

After this, I stopped in Sydney and had to wait for 12 hours. So I made a tour in Sydney and shot some pics there too. But nothing spectacular.. Too sunny day (hard light).

Then off to Vanuatu for a couple of weeks.

Return for Christmas but with the festivities and then overload of work, I hardly had the time to take care of the fifty.

So, I promise, I'll send it to the next person next week!!
Sorry again for having wasted so much time.

I propose it first goes to Finland or Sweden, then Romania, Albania and then Russia?

Who wants to be the first, Viliam or jah3?

Sorry again

What a pity that I don't have the lens yet. I'm going to Vanuatu, so I could have taken it with me.
It could have done an extra travel...

I suppose it doesn't counts if I put pictures from my own fifty from Vanuatu??

Indeed, 7D has dust and weather sealing, but on the net, you can find very opposite stories.
One takes pictures during snow storms, no problem. Another one has some rain on it during a minute or two -> 7D KO
and Canon says those weather conditions are not included in the warranty.

I talked with Canon about this and they confirm: don't go out with your camera when it rains. Only light rain could do and still
it would be risky Canon said. It is not made for it. A 1Ds is.

I think we have to admit that Pentax's weather sealing is way better than the one of the 7D.

1Ds weather sealing

7D weather sealing

The 1Ds has rubber joints where the 7D has none, some or only some foam.
For example, the 4 top buttons on the right or the joints for CF slot or battery slot.
Battery -> 1Ds and K7/5 have rubber joints, 7d it is just foam, so it can get wet and let water in.

So yes, 7D has weather sealing, but you have to be a lot more carefull than with a 1Ds, a K7 or K5... :(

Don't try to do this with your 7D... :

You Tube

And sorry again for OoT

As mentioned just above, talked with Canon and Pentax. About C, you were right.
Apologies. Maybe the 5D Miii will be better than 7D, but not for sure they said. At least what concerns speed. 5D is indeed more for studio work. 7D for speed and pursuit. I tested the 7Ds AF and it is just... amazing!!! They just lack weather sealing.

K5 is impressive also. Indeed, a much better AF than K7, but still far from Canon's AF.

So, to get back to the discussion. I agree with the integration of this Kodak sensor in P&S. But is 29MP not a bit too much for a P&S?

I've talked with Pentax on the international nature photo festival in Montier en Der in France.
They said they won't release a FF camera in the next coming two years because they focus now on the 645D ("this is our FF"). And when they look at FF sales of Sony, it is scary, they said. Most of them stay on the shelves...

Sony doesn't sell FFs very well, compared to C & N. So Pentax won't take the risk now to bring an FF on the market which won't sell that much. The latest K series are much more interesting financially speaking. And no lenses for FF, except old ones, FA Ltds and DFAs.

So, still have to wait...

Little anecdote:
Canon said "the most interesting points with C cameras are x, y and SHUTTER NOISE"
rofl  He never heard the noise of a K7 or even better, the K5???

Didn't knew about that. Do you know why (what the 5D is meant for)?

I'm going pro and thinking about buying nik or canon (but still stay with pentax!!!).
The 5D is way behind 7D on certain points and don't have enough money to buy a 1D (yes, not FF also).
A new 5D could (and should) not be worse than 7D. Now 5D has almost 4 fps, so lower than 7D,
worse high ISO, worse metering, exposure compensation, viewfinder, ...

But when comparing with 1Ds, somehow you are right. So maybe they need something just above, with FF?
Like a D700? A lot of people say FF has nicer (because smoother and longer) transition between in focus
and out of focus. so, perfect for macro. Now I need the speed and good AF for flying insects....
Flying and MF is still too difficult for me..

Anyway, sorry for being off-topic. But in the same time, this sensor is apparently not for our DSLRs.
