funny the way this thread turned out:D
i also think telfish should apologise, but that will never happen.
treating new members that way is not what pentax forums is about.

ill throw something in!
being an ex skater of 7 years(to old now it hurts:mad:)
the timing of the shot is great but what is the one thing you see the most with skate photography?
fish eye and wide angle lenses.you dont need to look through the viewfinder, just put the camera as close to the action without getting in the way and rattle of your shots.

lol probably a bit late to defend my epson, seeing as the op made his choice.
i use an epson 3880,its in a different league than the 2 debated here but this thing does color and b/w prints very very well.
i use ilford gold fibre silk(300$ for 50 a2 sheets)and it is the bomb digity :)
the paper smells like my old darkroom chemicals,so cool.

i think the final image is of more importance than what brand lens is used.
when a non photographer looks at your image, will they ask you what brand lens you shot with hmmm maybe?
as long as the lens produces sharp images,it shouldnt matter.
i actually found an old sigma prime(sigma 28mm mini wide) lens id packed away for years not long ago
and it is one of my sharpest lenses at 2.8
whateva floats ya boat i guess.

it just feels good not being a little sheepie, and following what the majority of people think is the best or normal.
ive felt this way my whole life about everything, always shot with pentax, never used a nikon or canikon and couldnt care less.
also i dont think we need to justify the pentax brand anymore,to anyone.
we all know the product line is getting stronger, and the lenses have always ruled,
soon they will come begging to have a play with us pentax big boys.....lol
so we are rare....for now.

sounds like pentax needs to make a camera that will find the perfect shot for you, meter perfectly everytime under all conditions for you,it will also change lenses automatically, the sensor will be absolutely perfect,no noise at iso25600000000! it will have no manual focus selection(because who uses manual focus in low light anyway?)it will be the perfect camera........how boring.

thanks for the comments guys.
ash,i felt that cooling it to much takes the desert feel out of the rocks, they really are quite red.
its an amazing place, ill be going back as i didnt get to explore the whole area.
btw they are all hdr pano shots stitched in cs4 each one has around 15 total exposures.
the BW image is converted hdr with two layers in cs4, one with blue filter and one with red.

hi all,
its been awhile since i posted any pictures,so i thought i would share my travels
into the heart of western australia.
its been quite challenging covering the goldfields as it is very arid an flat.
cave hill lies in the heart of aboriginal country and is rightfully owned by the Ngatju tribe. |

yep downloaded profile from their site, super easy to setup for a print noob like me.
i cant really comment on many papers but i did try the hahnameule sample pack,
and some of the heavy papers were brilliant!my personal favourite was their
german etching paper.
but the gold fibre silk at 310 gsm,is so good i dont really want to try anything else:lol:

well thats kinda sad.but we will have to wait and see what other functions it holds(k5)
i too was kinda hoping for a ff from pentax, dont really care as much as others.
ive had my k7 for a year now,its a great camera but kinda sux in the noise area.even at iso 100.(long exposures)if the new sensor is good enough i think it would be a worthy backup camera or primary but it doesnt sound right kinda backwards!!k-7 for backup K-5 for primary?

ive been using ilford gold fibre silk,i think its a little cheaper than the epson ??
but its a serious fine art paper.
for anyone who used to work in the darkroom, you will notice this paper smells just like the fixer used in old school processing, its kinda wierd.

the time has come again to pass on the challenge!
a little late but hey:confused: LucVer :liked the way you isolated the skull, could be good with a little more work. mithrandir:Really liked the look of the manga style,id be proud to print that and hang it up. pentup Nice conversion and crop bro.b/w suits the image i think. JeffJS another good crop, the square works well.however my new cokin filters have tinged the clouds purple.:o jmschrei i like the cool tones produced here.the sky looks awesome, and you removed the purple tint from the cokin filter:rolleyes: TOUGEFC this is really cool,as usual tougefc.my girlfriends fave by the way. Ash pretty standard fix on this, the levels are very good though, really brought out the old skulls look EricT well what to say really!pretty nice work and certainly interesting:cool: xs400 another fine black and white conversion, the contrast is perfect for me.nice work.
really good from everyone:Dits always hard to judge these because everyones got there own tastes and styles.
the winner is EricT Attachment 66493
and the silver goes to mithrandir Attachment 66494 |
