Seriously, don't put too much weight on Explore as an index of quality.

My muse is nature/landscape and I use natural or ambient light for everything I shoot. But a challenge awhile back asked for Film Noir… and what a challenge it was. After much experimentation this is what I ended up with. Looking at it now I wish I had arranged the guitar and arm differently but I am still pleased with the results. I set up in a windowless basement, used reading lamps and black bristol board, a black bedspread thumb tacked to the wall behind the couch. A one-off so as soon as I read the theme for this week I knew what I was going to enter. |

I have a beautiful piece of handcrafted glass full of swirls, bubbles and a prism. I propped it up in my planter box this morning and had fun photographing it from various angles. Some of the colour in this shot comes from behind the glass; trees, plants, a blue tarp, the wood shed, and other colours are reflected, namely my hunter orange jacket.
I used my K-5, Tamron 90 f/2.8 with the Pentax 1.7x converter. |

Talk about stiff competition here- its worse than the Weekly challenge-Blue.
Hectic week just past, and still more hectic to come-year end syndrome is not a good thing! Got a few hours yesterday and today, while the Independent Electoral Commission occupied the manse where I live, virtually kicking me out of house. Specifically for voter registration week. So went looking for some glass-thought I would visit a Catholic Church for some inspiration. Along the way I saw this somewhat abstract reflections glass at a private hospital. I like the different shades of blue and green. |

For me, boredom inspires the strangest kind of creativity... like freezing an old black and white photo of my grandmother in a block of ice, and then photographing it as it melts. The act of slowly revealing the photo below was quite intriguing (sometimes creepy, sometimes emotional). I will be trying this again during the darkest days of winter. |

As this week's host well knows because we live in the same province (though he lives in that "other" city;)), there can be a long stretch of bleak and brown landscape during the year. In the spring I am desperate for signs of life returning and it seems to take forever so I find myself photographing a lot of dry leaves and plants. I decided to have a little fun with this one earlier this year to wring some magic out of another shot of dead leaves. On hold by jmschrei, on Flickr

I have used this shot in challenges before. I still can't figure out how this image came out the way it did given where I was standing in relation to this building, but I like the unbalanced feel. Onward and upward by jmschrei, on Flickr

This was taken before a neighbor girl's birthday party. I literally rested the camera on the grate of the perimeter of the pool just above the the water line. The water was a perfect mirror. Pre-party by pentaximus, on Flickr

I took this shot in NH several years ago.The stream was absolutely calm and there was no wind at all. When I first posted this shot on the Forum no one caught the fact that it is presented upside down. The top 2/3rds is the refection.--charliezap
