OK, this is not only an SDHC card but a different brand too.
Anyhow, if someone had good or bad experiences with the Kingston 4GB SD card I mentioned above, I'd be more than happy to hear about it.
Thank you.

Barry,
Is it a Kingston SD or SDHC card? According to the Kingston website(s) they do not manufacture 4GB SD card but SDHC only. These Kingston labeled 4GB SD cards pop up here and there. Perhaps fake ones I don't know. SD cards bigger than 2GB are rare and do not always comply to SD 2.0 specifications as I know.
I was also about to just buy one or two but now I'm hesitating a little bit. I have an *ist DS with the latest firmware installed, this might help though like in your case.
Could you confirm if your card is an SD card? This is how the one I'm talking about looks like.
Thank you.

Because there is no separate sensor built in the *ist DL for sensing the amount of light reflected off the "film plane". The *ist DL and all the recent Pentax models are using a different approach called P-TTL. A preflash is fired just before the mirror would flip up, so it can be measured by the metering system which is located in the viewfinder.
Actually the D/DS/DS2 know both TTL and P-TTL while all the recent models know P-TTL only, due to lack of the sensor mentioned above. You can read a lot more about it in several threads here on Pentax Forums but at other places as well.

...except the *ist D and the *ist DS.
I just had to correct.

PS. ...and the *ist DS2 too. Sorry, I forgot.

I use my left eye with the right blinking, kept narrowed or completely closed. I'm left eye dominant probably because my right eye is a little worse in spite of wearing glasses. And yes, the rubber part of the eyepiece always smudges my glasses this way, so does my nose smudges the screen, but I just can't get used to using my right eye. I badly need that little plus with my left eye when I'm focusing manually.
Even worse that I have multifocal glasses, so I have to position the viewfinder very precisely.

Humm. I can't even force my ufraw/gimp to open a raw file in b/w. What if you load a jpeg file?

Let me second. I also just sort of accidentally discovered this subforum, after couple of weeks. In my humble opinion post processing is definitely part of dealing with digital photographs, so how could it be characterized off-topic??

Let me tell you all who helped that I finally bought a DS. See my signature below :)
OK, I'm cheating. I haven't got the camera to my hands yet, but my friend in ON did, and will bring it over to me at the end of the month.
So, it's a DS and I think we had a good deal: an almost new DS (only a few hundred clicks) with a 18-55 kit lens, strap, eyepiece, etc., plus a 2G SD card and even a set of rechargeable AA batteries included. Minus the paper manual and the two cables which the previous owner couldn't seem to find. All these for 280 USD, not bad, is it?
Can't wait to hold in my hands, let me see, er... 26 more days ;)
Oh, and the shipping. USPS was great, from MI to ON took only 4 days, and we didn't have to pay custom duties/GST/PST, only some 19 CDN on arrival, probably handling and administration fee or like that.
Thank you once more for all your help and advices.
Cheers...

Thank you all who replied, it's so kind of you to help out the ignorant. You know, I'm in Hungary and just about to buy a used D or DS camera in Canada. Or perhaps in the USA, that's why I dared to ask. A good friend of mine, living in Ontario, will come and visit us in the very last days of August, so we're busy to find a camera for me. Unfortunately both the time frame and my budget is so tight, there is only a little chance that we can get one. That's why I was thinking about this import thing.
Anyway, we'll see it. I have a WTB post up in the marketplace, we also keep an eye on ebay and some of the other possible sources, so keep your fingers crossed for me please. I really would like to become the first Pentax owner from Hungary on the forum :) Even if there are quite a few around here, but they probably are not members yet.
Your advices will sure help. Thank you so much. Well, I have almost a month left...
TU, cheers...

I was hesitating a little bit, but I hope my question will fit into this category.
Could someone tell me how much custom duty, plus GST/PST/whatever kind of tax is applied to a DSLR camera imported from the USA to Canada? If any. Er.. and really do they add it to such goods arriving to Canada? Practical, everyday experiences I'm most interested in. Oh, I'm talking about a Pentax camera of course, what else? :)
Just to make it clear: I mean a gear sent from individual to individual. Eg. one won on ebay. And the destination would be Ontario, I guess local taxes are different at places.
TU.

Pardon me, but there are exceptions: eg. two older Olympus models I can remember of: the E10 and the E20. (No flames please.) But I seem to remember at least one of their recent models has live LCD screen picture taking too. I might be wrong though.

Wayne,
Yes, I'd prefer buying a D model but so many things are limiting the purchase (low budget, must be in Canada or delivered to without too high extra cost, tight time frame as my friend would bring it over to Europe in the last days of August, etc.). So I'd be happy with any of them, D or DS. Or DS2.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me. I'm also a little bit an "old school" kind of man, and sure will use my existing MF lenses, some with a suitable adapter because of them having M42 thread back.
TU, cheers...

I seem to remember that someone was complaining the DS viewfinder to be a little dimmer compared to that of the D model. Probably not on this forum, but I can not recall the exact list. Could someone, in possession of both, confirm or deny? According the technical details they are identical (pentaprism), the focusing screen might be different? I had no chance to compare them, to hold both in my hands at the same time.
I'm abut to buy either of these older models and as my eyes are not as good as used to be, so this particular detail would be also something to consider when making the decision, eg. if the D viewfinder is really brighter.
Thank you.
