Can anyone who has installed the new firmware update weigh in on whether it improves the FF issue?

This is concerning me quite a bit -- given that both the K-5 and K-r are having similar low light front focus issues, I had assumed that when the rumored K-5 firmware fix was coming out that there would be a similar firmware fix out for the K-r. What are the chances that only a firmware fix for the K-5 is released? (Shorthand for -- people paid more and expect more from the "pro" K-5 and complained more loudly.)
In the short term the FF issue is livable for me, but I do not foresee continuing to own the Pentax system if this is not fixed in the foreseeable future.

My new K-r just went dead after about 100 shutter clicks on the initial charge of the battery (I charged it fully after receiving the package from Amazon). It went straight from green battery indicator to nothing -- there isn't even an indicator on the screen. Is there an indicator when the battery is dead on the LCD screen of the K-r? On my K100d it would tell you when the batteries are too low to operate.
I'm hopeful that my K-r isn't bricked but I don't think this is a good sign. And without the AA battery holder I can't test it any other way.
Update: after a full charge the K-r will still not turn on again. Seems like it's just dead. Going back to Amazon for a replacement (although debating just taking the refund and buying this later.)

I seem to be in the same boat. I got the same deal at Amazon. I just did some testing with my new K-R and my FA 50/1.4 -- the K-R's serial number is 3866XXX so it should be a newer batch. It seems to be front-focusing in both natural and tungsten light. With a -10 adjustment it's almost close to perfect -- I think a -12 would be right on the dot. I'm not sure it's worth it to send everything (I have a lot of lenses) in to get calibrated when it's so close though?

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been convinced to keep the K100d for now -- it does take some wonderful pictures outdoors and I can keep a manual lens on it (or attach it to my Pentax 1.7x teleconverter). I'm also glad to hear that the K-r has improved the AF issues. Mine should be arriving next week.

I ordered when it was showing out of stock so there was no estimate of delivery. I just got an e-mail this morning with a delivery estimate of January 04 2011 - January 10 2011. Hopefully my K-r will also show no focus issues.

I just ordered a K-r to upgrade from my K100d. It had been my first DSLR and I really liked it. But I have been frustrated with the AF in low light and the auto white balance under tungsten light, and have been looking at SDM lenses (although I don't think I will have the budget for one for awhile since I just bought the Pentax 12-24).
My question is what to do with my old K100d. It has about 25,000 actuations on it, and is still working perfectly fine, but I'm not sure I really want it as a "backup" given my concerns above. Is there a differentiating factor between the K-r and the K100d that would warrant keeping it? My wife already has a Canon DSLR so I don't really have anyone to give it to. Is it worth trying to sell it? What have people done with their old cameras after upgrading?
