It was the Thomas Wilson Carbide Mill found just outside of Ottawa.

Just back from a trip to Ottawa where I was attending my cousin's wedding. The weather wasn't the greatest but it was still great exploring the nation's capital and surrounding areas.
Here are a few shots from the trip.
Before the trip I researched a few spots to take some pictures. One of those locations was an old abandoned mill built by a Canadian inventor name Thomas Willson. My inner GPS was off and I turned a 45 minute trip into a close to 3 hour excursion. Luckily we found another couple looking for the same spot and combined we were able to find it. I was dripping sweat by the end after carrying my camera gear and tripod but it was still easily worth it.
Here is an image I staged at the same spot but I like it and it plays to the patriotic feeling you get when visiting the nations capital.
While walking the parliament grounds I noticed amazing maple leafs on the ground. I love the contrast of colour with the still bright green grass.
Lastly here is the tomb of the unknown canadian soldier. The shadows where amazing and I love how it turned out.

Thanks for the compliments, I really like number 2 myself. I will see what I can do in photoshop to straighten it out. If I am able to I will be sure to repost it.

beautiful pictures and beautiful country. I am from Croatian ancestry and my brother and his wife were just there for over a month. These pictures just make me more jealous that I wasn't on that trip.

My wife competed in an triathlon (half Ironman distance) this past weekend and I was there taking pictures of course here are a couple that I liked.
The first picture came of the camera really washed out and boring but I changed the tone added some grain and vignetting in Camera Raw. It is now one of my favourite pictures ever.
In the second shot all I did was up the green a bit.

I made my first attempt at star trails the other day too but I think yours turned out better because I attempted setting everything up after dark so I didn't have a good subject and it wasn't as sharp as I wanted.
Still very good first effort and I would love to see this same shot with say an hour long exposure.

I haven't posted here since my original introduction post which was ages ago so I thought I would share what I have been up to. I believe I have made some real progress recently and I absolutely adore going out with my camera by my side.
I have a lot more up on my website for those interested. Please feel free to criticize because I am definitely an amateur.

Sorry but I just want to make sure I am understanding you right Ash.
So I would either need a lens with a smaller aperture than f4 or else I would need to try doing it in the shade outside of direct sunlight?

I was hoping to get a little help.
When ever I try slowing down the shutter speed for example 1 second, my aperture always goes way up and the shot comes out all white. I have tried this on all the modes and I always get the same results. At least I think it is the aperture because it is maxed out at +5.
I am using a k-7 (firmware 1.01) and DA 16-45 f/4.
Thanks for any help on this.

Hello everyone!
I just recently decided to adopt a new hobby (sadly an expensive one :(). After testing a lot of cameras from Sony, Canon and Nikon I finally found a winner in the K-7 that seemed to deliver unrivaled value. I paired the K-7 with a Pentax DA 16-45mm f/4 lens.
So as I mentioned I am extremely new at this and am still trying to come to grips with things like exposures, aperture, white balance and shutter speed. I only have one lens so far and already I am finding it limiting but I broke the bank on the initial purchase so additional lenses will have to wait till probably Christmas time.
Anyway enough blabbing here are a few shots I have taken so far |
