I have digital *ist and think, that the fault of all #ists is the "crippled" mount.

Hi
I had ME Super, but sold it because of its "Achilles' heel" - slack foams. They had to be replaced.

I use this lens (for Canon) and on DSLR it is wide to standard (26-52), and on analog SLR it is super wide to wide zoom (17-35) - not bad. Is very sharp in the middle of frame; on full frame sharpnes on the borders is fair from aperture 5,6.

Hi!
The full name of tested lens:
Tokina AT-X 840 AF D(AF 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6)

Hi!
According to the test from optyczne.pl (in Polish, alas!), Tokina 80-400 is a great lens only in the 80-300 range. Above this range is much weaker: enormous CA and problematic sharpness.

Hi!
Here you have link to the Tamron's post: Pentax Forum: Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 LD Di Review - photo.net,
and in the polish tests are 4 Tamrons. All of them suffer from CA, their sharpness is no more than fair (especially for 300mm), and haven't SMC coating! My 100-300/4.7-5.6 is good enough, very light to carry and not too big. You see, Pentax is the second branch of my eqipment (the first is Canon) and for Canon I have 3 telezooms of high quality and more expensive; alas, Pentax doesn't provides long zooms of such quality for non-professionals. Sigma and Tamron are comparable. There are some wonderful lens, such as Sigma 100-300/4 EX and Tokina 100-300/4 ATX, (but I don't know, if for Pentax mounts), and they are expensive; besides they are big and heavy (about 1,5kg). Greetings!

I will try to explain and translate some sentences:
1) In the table it is evidently the error: should be 100mm 200mm 300 mm;
2) Translation:
According to the sharpness, this lens is a bit better than 80-320 mm. The best is for the shortest focal distance: 55/45 lines/mm for f/11. For the longer focal distances it has only 50/45 lines/mm and 50/40 lines/mm. It should be praised for the sharpness in the center by open aperture; at least 40 lines/mm...
Sunshade is the must!
Greetings

I often use my SMC Pentax-M 200/4 with converter Komura Telemore 95 II and have good results, but it is very good converter, maybe such good converter is more expensive than the lens; Pentax-M 200/4 is very good lens too. With this combo we MF with the sharpness confirmation, it is good for the analog SLRs too, and not too more expensive (it is hard to give the exact prices, here in Poland photo equipment is more expensive than in USA; but in France is the most expensive - my conclusions from eBay).

Hi!
Here is that site, tests are rather old (2002year), and in Polish testy - obiektywy
From my lens, SMC Pentax-FA 100-300/4.7-5.8 is OK; but better IQ gives SMC Pentax-M 200/4 + teleconverter 2x; disadvantage is, that with MF only.

I have found some tests (in polish, alas); according to them, the best sharpness gives SMC-FA 100-300mm/4.7-5.8 (over 40 lines/mm in the middle by the open aperture for DSLR with crop), other 100-300 are weaker, 80-320 too.

Hi!
I have bought on eBay Tokina 193 (19-35mm/3.5-4.5), for Pentax AF, have paid about 70 GBP, used, near mint. I am very glad, IQ is satisfying.
Cheers

Hi!
I have good tele Vivitar 70-150mm 1:3.8 MC, with the matched converter (with the inscription: Vivitar 70-150mm 2X matched multiplier), have bought it together (about twenty years ago). The IQ is good, even with digital camera (*istD). I am afraid, that it will be difficult to find matched multiplier for 75-105. Now I am searching for 1.4 or 1.5 converter Kenko or Tamron, but I live in Poland and in Europe Union Pentax mount isn't popular, most are for Canon or Nikon. Buying in USA is expensive, there are taxes and customs, and sending is expensive too. My payments in foreign currencies I make with PayPal only and not all sellers accept it.

Hi!
Lastly I have bought *istD on eBay, (from Cameda Camera), new in box, with the first firmware 1.0. Was reluctant to upgrade, but without it camera works with the Pentax M lens only in open aperture mode. Have download last firmware 1.12 and update it without of problems. There was minor troubles with loading soft to the CF card through card reader, but it was fault of my computer. I have three computers at home, and on the second all was OK.

Hi!
I live in Wroclaw, Poland. Have 4 Pentax cameras: *istD, MV, SFX, MZ-10. Prefer prime lens, my favorite are: SMC-M 2.8/28 and SMC-A 2/50. Have bought Tokina 19-35/3.5-4.5 from eBay, expect it next week. From the long end have decent lens Vivitar 70-150/3.8 macro MC, with matched 2x multiplier. I use Canon DSLRs too: XT and XTi, but Pentax is for me something special.
Greetings from Poland for all!
