Lens Hood Question

I have a lens hood that came with my Super-Tak f3.5 28mm it fits my Super-Tak f1.4 50mm & Super-Tak f2 55mm I don't have the hood for the pervious two lenses. Would it be smart to use the 28mm hood on the 50mm and 55mm lenses vs nothing at all?

Just received my Super-Tak f3.5 28mm lens in the mail. It is in perfect shape nice and clean plus original lens hood. What is a good starting point for EV adjustment for this lens on a K20d +1EV?
I'm trying to learn how to use my various Super-Tak lenses, what is the best way to determine EV for these lenses. Is there a general rule of thumb I should follow?

Regards,
Gary

EV Settings

I have just started using m42 Super Tak lenses and find that they under exposed. I have read in the forum that this is normal. I have a k20d and use photoshop and light room for my editing. I make my EV adjustment in the software during post processing. Is there an advantage to setting the EV before shooting the picture or is adjusting in the post process good enough?

Gary

Got my Super-Tak f4 200mm in the mail today can't wait to try it out on my K20d. Any tips for using this lens. So far all I have been using are Super-Tak f1.4 50mm and Super-Tak f2 55mm lens which are very small compared to the size of this lens.

Thanks,
Gary

Just received my new lens in the mail; did one shot to ensure it was operational and clean. It sure is a nice lens, glad its part of my growing kit. I can't wait till my other lenses come in the mail. Does anyone focus these lenses using live view? Seems like a good idea for a tripod just a thought.

Gary

M42 Value

Hey all,
I was thinking how great the M42 lens value is today. I just purchased a 28mm f3.5 super-tak for under $30.00 it came with a hood and both lens caps and a leather case. This got me thinking if this lens cost $100.00 in 1970 (just random price and date) how much would it cost in todays dollors? The answer in 2008 dollor is $564.00 I looked the equation up on google. Looking at the picture quality on this forum and looking at the pictures I have taken I think it is a great value for someone getting started photography. I have purchase five Super-tak prime lenses for well under $200.00 including shipping costs. Buying used lenses is the only way I can try new focal lenghts in prime lenses.

How good are the Russian made M42 lenses? I'm thinking of getting something to make a normal lens after the crop factor is added. Does anyone have a recommendation and what would a fair price be for a good quality lens. I don't have a lot of funds to spend. How do the compare to the Super- Tak lenses?

Thanks,
Gary

Hello everyone I just started using M42 lenses so far I have purchased four Super-Takumar lens 50mm f1.4, 55mm f2, 135mm f3.5, and 200mm f4 all at a very good price. I also have the kit lens. My question is I would like a wider focal length lens and I want opinions on good quality low cost option. I also would like to know how fast these lenses should be. I want to stick with older manual focus lens because that is what I can afford. Plus Im still leaning and it make me think about my shot.

Thanks,
Gary

I have a few old Super-Takumar M42 lenses that are missing the original lens hood. Has anyone used the rubber lens hoods and how well do they work? How hard is it to find the original lens hoods for the Super-Takumar lenses.
Thanks,
Gary

I'm new to Photography and purchased a Pentax K20D with a kit lens. After reading the forum and looking at some of the picture, I took the leap and purchased three M42 Super- Takumar lenses. F1.4 50mm, F2 55mm, and a F3.5 135mm. I also ordered a new Pentax adapter from the pentax store. Waiting on it to be delivered two weeks and still waiting:mad:

Could someone explain the metering for me using AV mode or the process to take a picture. I want to use these lenses with a tripod to get very sharp picture plus I want to learn how to compose pictures using these lens. I will be taking pictures of still shots and maybe cats and dogs no sports events.

Thank you all for your help this is a fun hobby.

Thanks

Order a new K20d over night delivery learned my lesson about not checking company reviews. Thanks for the help and website to check out if a company is legitimate. I purchase the k20d and the second version kit lens 18/55 still need to get memory card and camera bag any recommendation on size of card and bag. What would be a good flash for this camera? I will shoot with the kit lens for sometime time I need to learn how to use my camera and the type of pictures I like to shoot. I know I won't be shooting any fast moving sports events of any kind. Any tips on how to get started?

Thanks,
Gary

Has anyone done business with Broadway Photo? I ordered a k20d from them on 8/29/2009 and still have not received my order. I have called them a couple time and they say its back ordered and it will be another 3 days this has happened a couple times. The price of the camera new was $669.00 and the included a kit lens. The price on the website is now $900.00 for the same camera. Should I give them more time or cancel my order and buy someplace else? Why would the price change so much in such a short time? Recommendations please.
Regards,
Gary
