Poll: Contest Poll Contest #47 Voting (Decay)

Changing the rule to file size is good.
But, when this change is completed, violators' submissions should be disqualified unless & until they bring their submission into compliance.
I'm sick of watching "competitions" where "normal" people are "competing" with cheaters on steroids. This isn't baseball, after all.
Preserving the anonymity of the entries is also very important.
I too am "new" here. Are there any guidelines re. how voters are supposed to "weight" the different aspects of the entries (i.e. "technical" merit vs. "composition" vs. overall "artistic" merit/impact) ?
While writing this, it occurs to me to ask for confirmation if entries are supposed to be a "single photo," rather than a composite of foregrounds, backgrounds, etc. from different photos ? I ask because I liked one entry in this competition a lot, but I did not vote for it because I could not shake the feeling that a good subject had been photoshopped over a VERY good background from a different photo.
Thanks.

aperture ring well into the Macro green area; it gave me confidence to twist it hard enough to get into the macro setting. :)

Thank you all !

You were correct (no surprise to you, I'm sure).

I had called the Pentax Imaging website "help chat" before I wrote to Pentax Forums for help.

I got confused as their "chatter" led me over hill & dale, telling me to try different settings on the zoom ring, aperture ring, & focus ring. I didn't want to risk breaking a lens I's just bought, so I kept asking him if I was possibly supposed to push, pull, or click something into place, but couldn't get a clear answer. Finally, he 'fessed up, & said that he didn't have any information on this lens (!)

SOldBear, you wrote "I'm confused that you tried it "at both 70mm & 35mm. The 'macro' setting is next to 70mm setting. How can you try at 35mm?"
It's simple, after the above experience, I was confused, & thinking I'd tried every possible combination of actions. I was wr... wr... wr... not right ! My bad !

Thanks again, all !

ADVICE Needed re F 35-70mm lens

I have been out of photography for a long time, until I recently retired.
I have experience with only a few lenses.
I just got the above F 35-70mm lens on E-bay.

I have 2 questions

A. biggest question is re, the "Macro" / "close-up" function.
The Zoom ring turns very smoothly, but ends when it gets to the green "Macro" part; it does not go into the green Macro part.
I do not notice anything like a change to Macro or close-up, unless it means that the fact that it reached 70mm IS the Macro function.

I looked at the lense reviews for this lens, and found in the 6th review (dated 8/5/08) the following statement:
"shifting into macro (which should, more accurately be termed "close-up"), can be a little sticky and cumbersome. Try this lens and you'll see what I mean. That said, the close-up abilities of this lens are one of it's best attributes."

I have tried to gently:
1. twist the zoom ring into the green Macro section;
2. push the zoom ring into the green Macro section; and
3. pull the zoom ring into the green Macro section.

I have tried this at both 70mm & 35mm.

I have tried this with the aperture ring on both "A" and several f stops.

Suggestions ?

B also, the aperture ring is hard to turn (significantly harder to turn than any other lens I have used).
- Is this normal for this lens ?
- Is a cleaning likely to fix it ?
- If I don't fix this, does my difficulty in turning the aperture ring mean that my camera is also probably having to work very hard to change the aperture ?

thanks in advance !
