Hey guys, I've decided it is time for me to move onto a different system. So up for sale are my K7 and DA*200
K7: $700, comes with box and manuals. I can't seem to find the stock lens mount covering piece so there is a generic white one. Also comes with a remote for wireless shutter release and LCD protector.
DA*200mm 2.8: SOLD!
Prices are shipped and paypal'd.
Both are in excellent condition and have never been abused.
Don't mind the dust on the boxes it gets a bit dusty in AZ. Both the lens and the camera have been stored in a sealed metal camera case.
I have purchased and sold before here and I stand by what I sell.
Thanks! |

Thank for the feedback guys. I have been tempted by the wonderful shots that I have seen on the forums done with the primes. It is a tough choice and it can be very expensive.

I have been considering replacing my DA* 16-50 with some primes. I am considering going with the DA limited 21mm and the FA limited 43mm to start off with. I like the convenience of a zoom, but I am more concerned with sharpness and quality, mainly for walk around and city/landscapes. Do you think those primes would provide noticeably crisper and sharper images?

I have been thinking about going the prime route for a bit. It is just such a hassel to sell the 16-50 and my 60-250. Not to mention that it really would not save me any money to get the primes as the ones I was looking at are quite expensive too.

I agree with you. I might just stick to my high end B&W from now on.

Ok I took some more shots, because I was concerned that the DA* was not 'that' much better then the kit lens. These I did in manual mode (as was suggested). Wireless 3 second delay shots.
Manual Mode. 1/1250 sec @ F/5.6. ISO 200. Spot Metering.
DA* 16-50mm
!00%
DA 18-55mm
100%
It seems that the DA lens is still underexposing a bit. The quality of each shot is still not far off from each other, to the point that if I was shooting stepped down I don't think it would make a difference in which lens I choose. This is a bit dis-concerning due to the price of the DA* vs the DA. But at least that is my opinion on my unscientific test (as the Pentax rep told me).

I called Pentax to talk about what I was seeing. The gentleman wasn't that helpful and said he did not think there was an issue. then when I mentioned that I had posted my results on a forum he seemed to lose as respect in my opinion at all.

Ok so I set up my tripod in my backyard today to get some controlled sample shots. I took three shots in the same conditions. I used a wireless remote with a 3 sec delay for each shot. I set the aperture to F/5.6 for each shot. This is a comparison of quality between the DA*16-50 and the DA 18-55 kit lens, then a shot again with the DA* 16-50 /w the circular polarizer (Hoya HD) on. Shake reduction was turned off for all these shots.
DA* 16-50, AV mode, F/5.6, ISO-200, @ 1/800
Now a 100% crop
DA 18-55, AV mode, F/5.6, ISO-200, @ 1/1600
Now a 100% crop
DA* 16-50, AV mode. F/5.6, ISO-200, @ 1/400 /w Hoya Circular Polarizer
Now a 100% crop
If you look at the quality of the DA* vs. DA, it is very hard for me to notice much a difference in quality of the picture, but the DA* does take a slight edge, but it's not as much as I thought it would. One thing I found odd was how in AV mode the DA* would only allow 1/800 shutter speed, while the DA was twice that @ 1/1600. The darker image left by the DA would have to be because of the shutter speed. If you also notice when used with the polarizer the DA* went from 1/800 to 1/400 and the quality of the image dropped very noticeably.
I wonder if there is something wrong with my DA* 16-50. I don't know any reason why the shutter speed would be reduced in half. Any ideas?

I had the 150-500 when I shot Nikon and it has a lens lock to prevent the lens creep.

The wind was quite bad in the tripod shot as well. But the shutter speed was still low for a 1pm Arizona sun. That is the part which I am working on figuring out.

For those who were wondering what type of filter I was using. On that day I was using the Hoya HD Circular Polarizer. Other then that all my filters are B&W. I do have to do some more testing to see why my shutter speeds weren't higher, I just have not gotten around to it yet. Those who mentioned that the crops were not at the focus point are correct, but they still should have been better. I am still convinced that it was more of the wind/shutter speed issue then anything else. I am most likely going to go out this Sunday and look for shots in the washes around Tucson, these will all be hand held, but it will give me more of an idea on what is going on.
