I agree. Everyone knows that the FA Limiteds are "special rendering lenses," but the doesn't mean that the sharper DA Limiteds (DA 35, DA 40, and DA 70) are clinical or don't render nicely. The DA 35 renders it's superb sharpness very well. All the limiteds render well, are sharp, and have excellent contrast and color, but these attributes are not distributed perfectly among them. The FA limiteds render a bit better (they're faster, which helps), while the DA limiteds are primarily color and contrast lenses designed from the ground up to work well with digital cameras.

After owning the DA 15 for over 4 years and the DA 21 for six months, I acquired a copy of the DA 35 Ltd last December. While I still prefer the DA 21 because of the FOV, I have to admit that the DA 35 is the best lens I've ever used. Calling it stunning sells it short. Definitely, but its usually lenses like DA 35mm f2.4 or DA L 18-55mm - lenses that are not dedicated macro lenses. I think people who want to go beyond 1:1 usually already have some experience and will have very specific needs. The DFA 100mm WR was my first 1:1 macro lens and its great to build skill on, without any compromises in optics

I don't think someone who is a beginner in macro needs an aperture ring. Aperture ring is needed for advanced things like enlargements (on manual bellows or extension tubes; though some tubes have coupler) or artistic ideas like shooting on film SLRs. With DFA 100mm WR you get 1:1 magnification without extension tubes already. And you can still add a Raynox macro filter if you want extra enlargement. Or reverse another lens.
Just set the aperture on the camera or use P mode and have the camera choose by itself.

We left home the first week of June to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary by visiting some of our favorite national parks. After visiting 13 national parks, numerous monuments, wildlife refuges, recreation areas and national seashores, our adventures came to and end and I am now going to blast the forum with lots of photos. I hope you enjoy coming along with me on this wonderful trip.
This time I will take you to Canyonlands (we actually got up at 5AM to capture sunrise at Mesa Arch). I have also included views of the canyon from Deadhorse State Park. The final view is from the bottom of the canyon. This after a hair-raising truck ride down a steep dirt road. It took three hours to go 20 miles. Never again.

I have a DA* 50-135 that stopped focusing about six months after the warranty ran out. I received a quote from precision camera for $350.00 to fix the lens. Needless to say that seemed a bit high for replacing the focus motor, so I thought I would try KEH repair. They quoted me $195.00 plus shipping -($207.50) total. I sent it in and received the lens back in two weeks including ground shipping round trip from the west coast. works perfectly and ca
me with a six month warranty. Very pleased with their service. I also use them as a source for lenses and they have a great return policy.

Reading the tea leaves, it sure seems as though Ricoh is looking at this new sensor. That said, I don't see why that should push the price in the 3500 dollar range. That seems silly to me. Sony isn't going to sell their camera containing this sensor anywhere near that price. My guess would be something in the 2500 dollar range, maybe just a hair under a D810 price. It just makes sense.
They aren't going to release two cameras and they aren't going to release a cheap version of the full frame camera, at least not initially.
As to stealing from 645z sales, I wouldn't worry about it. Digital medium format is a pretty rarefied market and those who shoot it do so for particular reasons (dynamic range, particular glass) and not just for high megapixels.
The big thing that I hope is that Ricoh makes serious effort to make this camera have decent video. It can be done and it certainly would expand the market for such a camera, at least a little bit. I know they have always been more about still photography, but it doesn't make sense not to make effort to make their offerings appealing to those who shoot video.

I have owned 3 of these v.1 AF-540FGZ flashes and figured eventually the flimsy battery door was bound to break. The design includes three tiny plastic nubs molded onto the flash housing side, that eventually wear down or snap off. One of my nubs has worn off, causing the door not to stay closed and i have been using rubber wirst bands, tape, even a bulky C-clamp to keep the door closed, but finally found a working solution that does not block the viewing screen nor any of the buttons.
I used 2-part epoxy to affix three lego pieces strategically on the door and surrounding the door. then simply close the door and lock a single large lego piece or individual crossbar pieces to lock it shut. It is working just fine now and i can even attach little Lego men if i want for some whimsy.
Check it out and good luck if you are having trouble getting replacement parts: |
