Photography is a word based on two Greek words. The Greek word "phos" which means light, and ""graphe" which means description, writing, drawing or painting.
But I belive the intended use of the word photograph is for visible lasting image created by capturing light.

For the average user smartphone will give them access to better image quality than ever before.
Looking back at pictures in family albums from 30+ years ago, lots of images were captured out of focus, suffered from camera shake, and often over exposed among other issues.
Modern tech in smartphones are a lot better in eliminating these type of user errors.

You say you already have K5 II. You will not find a K-mount body that is much smaller than it.
Except for a larger grip it is about the same size as KP. But KP is actually higher, deeper and wider than K5 II.
K5 II is also smaller than entry level cameras like K30 - K70.0, at least with smaller grip and less overhang on prism housing.

Also do not forget to get the correct lens cap for each lens. ;)
Then you probably have a new hobby that will last for a while.

Retro would better fit a film SLR IMO.
There are to many extra features on a DSLR for retro design to work well.
A retro DSLR would be sized like Contax AX, so it would not feel like an old film SLR anyway.

With TAv you control both shutter speed and aperture and camera control ISO.
With HP you control one of shutter speed and aperture and camera control the other one. With auto ISO the camera also control ISO.
It is a matter of how much control you want and what you can let the camera control.
More control is sometimes an advantage when you know exactly what settings you need, but too much manual control can be an disadvantage if speed is a priority. The camera is much faster in conpensating if light conditions change.
My most used mode is Av with or without auto-SO. It works well in most situations.
In more critical situations I may use TAv or full manual.

Would you be willing to pay $5000+ for a Pentax 645 film camera?

Pentax did for many lenses (100m macro, 35mm macro, 10-17 fisheye, 16-50, 50-135...), but the 12-24 was a Tokina design.

I agree, my KP probably see more use than my K1. And it is a perfect camera to use with DA Limited lenses for compact size.
The noise performance is about the same as on K1, as KP has the accelerator chip.
I would probably rank KP as the best Pentax DSLR of all time. Perfect combination of size, features, performance and image quality for me.

It is also the same price for Pentax WG-90 as for Ricoh WG-7/(WG-6), which is more feature rich camera. With GPS, 4K video, higher resolution sensor, larger higher resolution screen, more rugged, higher frame rate...

Right now it just make sensors more expensive and increase requirements on supporting electronics which also add cost.
For DSLR it will not make much sense to use technology like this as long as there are other sensor alternatives.
It would maybe make the DSLR twice as expensive just to get a little better live view.

The result of the survey probably depend more on the questions asked (and options available) than where the survey is made.
And if their strategy is about to release the most niche camera, they may opt for the least popular option. ;)

Mirror lenses usually have a fixed aperture, so there would not be much difference between modes. But otherwise it sound like normal limitation for fully manual lenses (K- or M-series).
On an fully manual lens Av-mode will always use wide open aperture on a digital body, which a mirror lens is limited to.
And for most modes the camera will switch to Av-mode.
What happen when you set the camera to other modes than M- and P-mode?
What mode does the rear screen say camera is operating in on all modes?
The only exception would be K3 III which has some extra features for handling fully manual lenses.

For me it is quite the reverse. I do not bring the camera with me all the time.
But when I'm out shooting it is like a therapy that take my mind off all the troubles in life.
So for me the main purposes of having a hobby like photography is to distract me from all the worries in life. So it is a different type of barrier for me.

There are several other material that has been forbidden by regulations. I believe lead was no longer allowed to be used in glass since 2006 by REACH/RoHS regulations, and the regulations in Japan banned lead a few years earlier if I remember correctly.Which was one of the reasons why production stopped on many FA series lenses around that time (2004).

As I understand the lens used in Fallen Angels was equivalent to 10mm focal length on FF.
A rectilinear lens of 10mm for FF is not easy to find, and will not be cheap.
The closets alternatives for K-mount would be Irix 11mm F4 or Venus Optics Laowa 12mm F2.8.
