I do not see any major reason for upgrading my SMC DA 35/2.8 Macro Limited

It is sad to see that Pentax home market Japan seems to have pretty much given up on DSLR.
38000 DSLR units last year in Japan vs 482000 MILC. So less than 8% are DSLR.

Normally yellow flashing would indicate under exposure, and red flashing would indicate over exposure (which can be seen in the window in the last image).
But it may also be a combination of focus peaking and under exposure indication, as it seems to be a mix of white and yellow.

Yes, it is normal, and often the case on lenses with built-in focus motor.
When you reach the end of the focus range the resistance if the focus should increase a bit indicating you reached the end.

Yeah, it would have been surprising if Pentax WG-90 was not assembled on the same production line as Ricoh WG-80.

You may be surprised with how sturdy it is. Basically everything is on a higher level than K30.
The only disadvantage of K3II would be that it does not have any built in flash (if you use it on you K30). K3II has built in GPS instead.

I would avoid using screwdrive lenses as they can be disturbing during the service.
So I would vote for Sigma HSM lenses.
But it will depend on what type of service it is and the acoustics of the location.

Also do not forget to get the correct lens cap for each lens. ;)
Then you probably have a new hobby that will last for a while.

It sounds like an unintended switch of drive mode. Something that can happen when leaving the camera on while carrying the camera around your neck.
Can also happen when in wrong mode on the 4-way controller trying to switch AF point.
I believe the mode used will show in the exif info of the image.
I may also be that you have the camera set to reset drive mode after turn off.

Retro would better fit a film SLR IMO.
There are to many extra features on a DSLR for retro design to work well.
A retro DSLR would be sized like Contax AX, so it would not feel like an old film SLR anyway.

Yes you should be able to. But as the kit lens has no aperture ring, you would either only be able to use it at wide open aperture (or possible max stopped down aperture).
So it would be limited use.
A Canon kit lens would be much better, and I cannot imagine a second hand one cost much these days.

But sometimes it takes more than a camera to make photographs. FI on a film camera I do not think you have any photographs until you developed film or made a visible image. The same could maybe be said about raw data on a digital camera.

Photography is a word based on two Greek words. The Greek word "phos" which means light, and ""graphe" which means description, writing, drawing or painting.
But I belive the intended use of the word photograph is for visible lasting image created by capturing light.

Something like this would probably fit K70, but JJC have many other models too. With a small prime lens a smaller pouch can probably fit too. Product Description ? JJC |

I think the main problem in this case will be that there are no mechanical focus on a PLM lens. It is only electronically controlled. So you will not be able to shift focus when adapted to Q.
The aperture is also electronically controlled, and how that work I do not know for sure. It may stay on the last used aperture when the camera that controlled it was shut off.

It was probably quite some time since the Sigma 10-20/4-5.6 version was manufactured. So it may have been considered as "new old stock"
Was there any manufacturing date on the lens of packaging?
The later version Sigma 10-20/3.5 HSM was introduced in 2009.

I believe K-mount lenses are valued quite low nowadays.
I purchased a Sigma 10-20/3.5 HSM 4 years ago in near mint condition for $150.
I have purchased many second hand K-mount lenses for under 1/3 of price new the last couple of years. The lenses rarely show much signs of being used.
From local retailers hat usually leave 6 month warranty on second hand products.

Pentax did for many lenses (100m macro, 35mm macro, 10-17 fisheye, 16-50, 50-135...), but the 12-24 was a Tokina design.

I do not mind automation, as long as I can choose when to use it. The important aspect of automation is to know when it can aid you, and when it will not.
Automation can be convenient and support the photographer to reach their goals quicker and more often. Which in the end will make photography more satisfying, at least for me.
IMO rotating more dials and pushing more buttons than necessary is not something that makes photography more fun for me.
Automation can make the process of photography more fun as I can focus more on the art, than adjusting settings on the camera.

It is what I heard too, but it is strange that specification differ so much between Pentax/Ricoh and Olympus.
WG-90 specification is a little behind Olympus TG-3 from 9 years ago, and far behind TG-7 from 2023

I think it would have been enough if they did not go for the exact same specification over and over again.
Not many other cameras release the last 10 years has had this low specification (except for their own models)
WG-90
- Screen 2,7" with 230k dots (320x240)
- Frame rate: 1,08 FPS
- Digital stabilisation
- 9 focus points
- 1080p video
- No GPS
