Thanks again, I emailed Eric Hendrickson and I think that I will let him go through it and clean and adjust it back up to specs. I know that these are not expensive cameras, but it's all I need, and it takes very nice pictures as well. K

OK, and thanks for your input...now here's another question, you said to make sure that the mirror was dry after I clean it, and to make certain no solution was left on it. What kind of solution will work on the mirror in a pinch?? Would 91% Isopropl Alcohol work?? or is that a definate no?? Thanks K

How Do I Clean my K1000??

Hello, I have a K1000 that I bought used for $30.00 7 years ago. It came with a Pentax 50mm lens f 2 The lens took sharp pictures at first but seemed to take hazy, milky looking pictures as the years have gone by. I found that there was a great deal of fungus and haziness inside the glass of the lens.

I have recently purchased a Pentax 50mm 1.4 and I want to try it out on an upcoming trip to Charleston, SC with my K1000. I looked at the mirror inside of my camera today with a flashlight when I had the lens off and it has a considerable amount of dust on it.

(1) How do I clean the mirror??

(2) I now have a Pentax SMC M 50mm 1.4 lens, and a Pentax SMC M 80-200mm lense, what would be good additional manual Pentax lenses to add to the gap between these two lenses that I would be happy with, for different situations? and tell me why you would suggest them please.

I love this simple little camera, and I would like to have some nice lenses to take pictures of all kinds of settings, people, concerts, sunsets, sunrises etc. there are no boundries.........:D

Thank you very much for your help....K

YEP.....I looked through both lenses, smc m 80-210 and the 50mm. The 50 is wasted, it looks like an alien life form is growing on the inside around the glass. The 80-210 is crystal clear..... wheww!! ...At least I'm safe on that one.

What would be a good choice to replace the 50mm with, as far as a K mount M series??? Possibly a zoom, that would cover from 50mm to 70mm??? or would a couple of fixed lenses up to 70mm or 80mm be a better choice?? and, if so, which ones would be good sharp lenses and reasonably priced??

Also one more question, What is the best way to store my camera and lenses between uses?? I have to admit... I have been keeping it and the lenses in its camera case in a dry, dark closet. Is that wrong?? Thanks K

Hello, I think that I may have damaged my smc m 50mm lens. I bought this lens together with a K1000 camera several years ago, and when I first got it the pictures were extremely sharp and clear. The problem is that I have cleaned the lens a few times with alcohol and a Q tip and a couple of times with eyeglass cleaners, since I did this I have noticed that my pictures have a very bright haziness or milky look beyond the shadows in the pictures.

For example, if I am surrounded by trees and I am focusing on a subject at a distance that is in the sunlight, the distant landscape will be very hazy or extremely bright and milky looking but the objects in the shadows that are closer to the camera look fine.

I have been using fuji film 400 that I bought at Walmart set with the camera meter at 1/250 full sun, 1/125 full sun and partial sun, and 1/60 on cloudy days.

I would greatly appreciate any opinions, this was a good lens before. Maybe it's the Walmart Fuji film or, maybe it's their processing machine?? I don't know....please help. Thanks K

Which smc m lens up to 70mm?

Thanks for the reply, and a very nice shot of the Porsche pschlute. So, am I correct in assuming that to be able to focus sharply at close range and still have a decent midrange the "primes" are the way to go? and, how close will the 28 or 50 "primes" focus and where on the forum could I see some examples of what they will do on a K series manual body?

I just went to Bojidar's K mount page, what about the screw in Pentax closeup lenses?

Thanks again...K

Hi, I found a Pentax smc m 80-200mm for my K1000, I am happy. Can someone tell me if there is a good pentax k mount manual focus lens in the smc m series that will cover the low end of focal length to 70mm or so with the ability to take sharp closeups of subjects like flowers, spiders on their webs etc. as well as performing clear on the far end of focal length? or am I asking a redundant question? I was hoping that this series of lenses offered a nice one that might do that or, am I asking for something that doesn't exist? Thanks

Hey pbo, thanks for the reply I am familiar with Tamron, a friend of mine had one a few years back on a Cannon I think? and he spoke very highly of it. When I said "objects" I meant things like for instance a lifeguard platform on the beach at sunset, or a lighthouse, things like that. Also, I'm not a professional or, even good at photography. Sometimes I luck up and I am in the right place at the right time and things seem to fall into place, ie shadows from the lifeguard platform are at an interesting angle but might be at a distance or something like that.

Hi, I'm a novice and new to this forum. I have a K1000 that takes in my opinion, very nice, sharp pictures with the stock 50mm lense that it came with. I have been wanting a zoom lens for a long time and I would like to hear your suggestions, as to which zoom lens would be my best choice for "some wildlife", "objects," "people," and "structure" shots like old homesites etc. Money IS an issue, and if at all possible can I get a good lens that will do this for $300.00 or less? I saw a couple of Pentax 70-210mm f4 smc A Macro's for less than $200.00, does anyone know about these? and if they do, or don't perform well? I don't have to have (only) Pentax, but I would like something that works well and is user friendly, please tell me what my options are. All advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks K
