Actually it was low light and thats the only time I have time to take photos as busy in university at moment. Didnt have external flash nor tripod. think the slight softness might have been due to it bein handheld shot.
If only I had chance to take it at noon, lighting would have been fantastic.

Thanks for the feedback :) much appreciated. Did some quick PP in paintshop pro. I Like the effect more now :)
Original image was straight from camera, I rarely do any PP. Should get the habit of it really. Sharpened it slightly too much to get this effect and adjusted histogram.

After some recommendations, I am looking for either
Tamron 17-50mm
or
Sigma 24-70mm EX DG f2.8
Might be long shot asking for such good lenses but worth a try.
Thanks

Very true.
For me to spend so much on a lens of DA* I'd expect it to last some time and not fail on me. More importantly if they fail just outside of your warranty period, ouch!

its a real shame that such a fantastic lens like 50-135mm (speaking from results i seen from it) would have such issues.
Why not they make "SDM-less" lens of 50-135mm quality? This zoom range really throws away the need for several primes.
If they do make it, I'd be very happy to buy that.

Well if I am to buy a lens that cost too much then surely I expect to keep it for some time without problem as many will say this too that SLR body wouldnt matter that much but its how good glass you use and how you use it that make excellent result.
By the way, is there similar issue with sigma HSM?

I have been recommended the DA* 50-135mm from someone and have looked into it and it's what I have been looking for, nice sharp optics.
However, I have read some reports of its SDM focus issues/failure. Not sure how much truth there is to it but want to ask that:
Is the SDM failures too much exaggerated or there is issues with it and its down to maybe luck as to whether i get good copy or not?
Has the SDM failure been addressed and new lenses made are safe to buy?
Should i be worried/concerned about this issue when considering any SDM lens?
Any precautions you take to avoid such failure?
This would help me decide. As there are two paths am looking into now, one is this long focal length scale i.e. DA* 50-135mm and the other is wide angle i.e. DA 12-24mm or Sigma 10-20mm. its going to be one or the other :)
Thanks
EDIT: I dont want to be missing out on the prices these lenses are going at the moment :) or is there any reason/link to the SDM issue. Am too confused!

I know its not sharp :( but sometimes such blurry photos kind of makes a dreamy scene that i prefer. I could have taken it with my now sold pentax-A 50mm f1.7 but chose the tamron.
As far as "macro" goes, i referred to it as being macro according to Tamron's 1:2 macro "definition" on its lens :)

Thanks for reply so far :) The seller is saying lens is pretty much new so I guess am pleased with that.
I just had a thought after reading another thread on faster lenses, will the defference from f4 to f2.8 on depth of field be great? as am interested in using DOF too in some of the portraits i take of my little nephew and niece :)
just wanted to know if there is much difference in IQ of the two lenses, and colour contrast too.

Hi
I just dived in for DA 55-300mm on eBay for £200. Is this good deal? This will replace my Tamron 70-300mm.
I am selling my manual focus lenses and kit lens so am thinking of the following lenses but having no experience at all so need some help from you.
Lenses am considering are,
Sigma 18-50mm EX DC Macro
Pentax DA 16-45mm
Also Sigma or Pentax DA 17-70mm but 55mm upwards should be covered by DA 55-300mm.
totally confused as to which ones to get. probably price would pay a role in choosing too.
By the way, important note is that I would shoot mainly indoors, and my current 18-55mm kit lens hunts for focus points, bit annoying. Also would takee this lens mainly for landscapes and street photography.
Many Thanks in advance.

This is handheld macro mode on Tamron 70-300mm Di LD. Took it this afternoon, very wet like all autumns here in UK and took the picture from window inside, too wet ouside, lol
Hope you all like it :) The green in background is all grass. I guess the "wetness" and slight wilted flower signifies Britian's autumn. Also was very windy so pretty difficult to get sharp image handheld at 180mm focal length and low light too :(
So overall fits into seasons contest :)
