So, I am hoping that someone could help me. I have a 16-50 2.8 lens where I damaged the 'power zoom' connector on the lens mount - where the power is provided to the lens. One of the gold parts broke off, making the lens MF only. The part is easily removable - two little screws, then it pulls out, so I can replace it myself. I just need the part. Instead of sending it int to be worked on, I would rather just get the part - is there a place to get Pentax lens parts? Anyone can help?

Maybe I missed it, but why were the number of entries, and threads, reduced from what was announced? Also, why are there limits at all on the number of people who can enter? It just seems like if people don't feel like they will have an opportunity to enter, they are less likely to post on here in the next months, thus thwarting the reason for this drive in the first place....
"When we reach the target number of posts, we will create four raffle threads, each separated by 6 hours (giving users in various time zones the opportunity to enter). The first 75 users to reply to each thread will get one raffle entry, and then the winner will be picked at random."

The whole concept of this 'raffle' is not a smart way to do this giveaway anyway.
1.The point of the giveaway is to drive up traffic to this site - to hit a 40k post total for the month. So the 'membership' must post, which is a heckava lot more than the 100 raffle slots they are allowing.
2.Why 100? Can they not figure out a more democratic way of choosing a winner? Why is there a limit? Can't they choose from a bigger pool?
3. Its one thing to have such traffic that you cannot get in to enter. That's one thing. This was not letting in others at the time the contest was suppose to start.
I know, it seems to complain for a free giveaway, but the whole point was to drive traffic to the site, and I suspect, except for the complaint threads popping up for this failure, people are going to be less enthused to post on the site to get to the 40k in July only to be blocked from the actual giveaway, or raffle, or whatever they want to call it (I suspect its not really a raffle, as I believe that has a stricter thing for federal taxes)....
"Hello,
We are sorry to hear that you had a negative experience during the giveaway. We had over 2000 members competing for just 100 raffle entries, and all the entries were claimed within 30 seconds of the opening of the threads.
For July, we will be improving the user experience by clearly showing the time at which the raffle threads will open, and we will also be increasing the number of raffle entries to 300 to allow for a slightly less crazy raffle period.

I really think you need to rethink the entry process for this giveaway- it is frustrating when a person attempts to enter and the system does not work as described- and have a very small additional thread really does not make up for it

Better get the forum working properly...I was on the 11 pm UTC forum, and was locked out until 11:06 at which all of the entries were taken...
Completely lame if you ask me....it would be one thing fighting to get on, but it was showing nothing until it was locked....

Im going to say it - part of the problem with the mistakes from the DPR review of the K1II, or things with reviews in general, like how Fuji's lack of video capabilities is glossed over, while Pentax's deficiencies are usually brought up ad nauseam - is that it takes away from the real issue Ricoh Pentax is having with their current lineup. We harp on their perceived biases, but what if they simply came out with the fact that every camera is just a reiteration of a camera released two, or three generations ago? The K1II is simply a gimmick to have a new version of pixel shift, that is not as useful as the original pixel shift, and Ricoh continues to fine tune the presets to match Canon? That the camera would have been great if it was generation 1, but now it feels being left behind. Or that the KP makes no sense.
Look, I love Pentax - requisite list of numerous bodies and lenses would b here - and I hate the slipshod way the K1II review was handled, then attempted to be fixed without admitting there was a major flaw to it all, and I hate how that review may have dissuaded someone from buying into Pentax, and instead becoming a drone shooting the next MKx or D8xx, but really one site was not going to make the difference. I also hate those sites talking about the limitation of the lens lineup, which is also lame. Or that they left Ricoh completely out of the rugged camera comparo, when the W line is usually right there with Olympus for best. But more, my anger makes me get angry with them, but I would rather be praising something new from Ricoh, if there was something.....

...and let's not forget, I still feel the K-01 is the best Pentax for shooting video. Being able to use whatever mode you are in - and the settings - for shooting video is better than the K-3, which only uses a preset mode when you start shooting video. The K-3 is good for video, but I still think the K-01 is better.

It may be the 16-50 communicating with the K-3.
Question - Do you have the camera in AF-S, AF-C, or AF-A mode?
I too have a 16-50 and K-3. The lens works great on my K10, K-01, and Kx, but not on the K-3. It will not focus sometimes, or it will hunt, but never lock on, and in anything but AF-C, will not fire. My guess is either the lens is decentered to a point, or the K-3's firmware is not compatible with the version of my 16-50 (one of the first years, and never had an SMC fail issue).
I don't have an issue with any other lens. Also, it seems to be gone, or reduced in LV mode.
I have a feeling I will need to send the setup into CRIS to get everything fixed, just have tried to determine if it is something else before I call Support.....

Get the K-01 and you will have no worries (other than rain). I have both cameras, and right now I am fighting the K-3 on two fronts. On one, relevant to you, I just find the audio recording capabilities inferior to the K-01, as I get distortion on heavy bass items, like marching bands that I don't get with my K-01.
I got the K-3 in January originally, and due to my favoring the K-01's video capabilities, promptly sold it (for the same price). I bought again due to the great deals, but the video is still feeling lacking. If you are looking at AF and weathersealing, then get the K-3, but if those are not a concern, I think the K-01 is best bang for the buck....
May I recommend another lens the FA 1.4 as well. I have that, as well as the F 1.7 and A 1.4. The FA is the softest wide open, and I need to put it to 2 to match the sharpness of the F at 1.7.

Well since I just ordered a K-3 bundle with FLU, and its all shipped, heading my way, my guess is that the European warehouses didn't stock enough of them, or that they were all diverted to the US to help with the bundle sales.

If you cannot float getting a deal on the K-5II(s) models (or get a clean K5), then I vote for a K-500, for the simple reason that whatever you may save on money, or think you are getting on top LCD, is lost when you take into account the sensor differences between the two. That 16mp Sony sensor is so much better than the Samsung sensor in the K7.
The K-500 has a front control wheel. This makes controlling the K-500 as easy as the K-7. I went from using a K10 primarily to a K-01 and a Kx because I needed video. Those other two do not have a top LCD, and I really never missed the lack of readout, I did however miss the front control wheel a lot.
Most information you would have on the top LCD can also be found in the viewfinder, as well as on the back screen.
Other than that, while the K-500 has a smaller battery, does not have a mic port, and cannot get a battery grip, all pluses for the K-7. But for still pictures, HD video, and every other measurable aspect, in my opinion, put the K-500 as the better buy. I have been watching eBay for K7s (to have that model, as well as for some time-lapse projects) and the camera is going for above $250 used. To buy a used camera, or spend $150 more for a new camera - its simple to me.
Or get the first gen K-5. The AF may not be as fast, and it uses a cruddy codec for recording video, but the K5 would give you the metal/weathersealed body, and do so for well under $500.

read the firmware instructions.....typically drop the file on the root of the sd card.....With older models you need to hold down a button during startup of the camera to have the firmware file recognized

For he OP - it would be cheaper and easier to find a replacement camera - DSLR are kind of tricky taking apart. Lucky for you, if the top lcd is working, then you can set your settings, and maybe get a remote trigger and use it as a time-lapse camera.
For the other poster, it sounds like you have not synced the shutter speed with the flash. Do you have it in PTTL? What is your shutter speed? Is the camera reading the flash? It may fire, but it may not be giving the data. first simple check, press the light button for the top LCD - does the flash light up?

I know on an old S40 of mine, it would shut down immediately due to a short, saying the battery was depleted. The fix for that was to push on the lens, back into the body, to push the connection back - it worked.
One common problem with cameras with extending lenses is the stripping of the gears , or channels for the lens to move. I got a LS1000 which had this, and the only solution was to switch out the lens.
Does it seem to extend the lens. If nothing happens, maybe the lens is jammed - push and wobble the lens during startup.
