My wife has a Mac and a K-5 and has never had the issue. My thought is any thought one might have is probably irrelevant. All you need to know is what to do if it happens.

First of all, you were rude.

Second, children are just about the most beautiful beings in existence. I sure hope people don't stop posting pictures of children.

Third, what hasn't been done to death? If we eliminate subject matter based on what someone is sick of seeing, we'd likely have nobody participating.

Fourth, there are all levels of photographers here . . . do you want to say someone just learning or trying out something for the first time, something that others may have done a million times, is not welcome? Why not welcome everyone, and encourage people to keep shooting and learn?

Finally, a child, like anyone, can be a great subject for a portrait. I liked the photographer's use of light in #48, and I thought #153 might be the best portrait of the lot. Now that I think about it, from now on I may vote for every single shot of a child I see!

The K-5 Lemons Continue the Pentax Saga...

Please excuse my early morning annoyance. From the start, as an owner of a k5 which had the stain issue I have remained relatively level headed, and on the opposite end of wheatfield's posts from the start. There is no defense here for either side really, which lead to my annoyance at perpetuating an issue that is publically recognized and being dealt with in as systematic a process as you can expect a business to do. So really I am asking what more can pentax as a business do at this point?

DA 17-70 + DA*60-250 or DA*16-50 + DA*50-135

I had a really rough time with my DA* 16-50, so rough, in fact that it took nearly a year to get it acceptable, and that year nearly killed off my interest in photography. For all that I still consider it a great zoom, and its nearly glued onto my camera body.
I have learnt that great lenses can be like racehorses, extremely fickle and temperamental, it takes patience to master them.
The DA* 50-135 is what kept my hobby alive during my struggles with the DA* 16-50, it is one of the greatest lenses I own, but not the greatest, that spot is forever taken by my F* 300/4.5

The DA* 16-50 and 50-135 combination is about as good as it gets with a matched pair of zooms in Pentax land and I would heartily recommend it.

Hyperbole much? I don't disagree that SDM on the first two * lenses has been an issue, but if you have to embellish to prove your point, maybe it's not that strong of a point.

K5 midrange or semipro

I'd categorize the K-5 as semi-awesome. The rest of the awesome has to come from the photographer.

I don't think the debate is whether or not the camera is worthy of being used by pros, its about whether or not Dpreview will put it in the semipro category.

First off my bet is it will be in the semipro category because thats how pentax is marketing it.

Secondly, its going to take amazing pictures regardless... AKA... who cares.

DA 35mm/2.4 - A Plastic Wonder! -- DAL35 vs FA35 vs DA35m vs A35 (many photos!)

Thanks guys for your feedback.

From the results you can see that DA35macro certainly has the best center and corner sharpness, that's inline w/ my experiences with this wonderful lens. FA35 might have slightly better resolution, but the difference really isn't much especially considering we are viewing at 100% crops on a 16.3mp sensor. You probably won't feel the difference during actual shooting.

DAL35 is very comparable to the other 3 lenses in other aspects too, actually I like the slight softer and smoother bokeh from DAL35 better than the others. The difference is there if I view those bokeh samples on my Dell WFP2408 monitor side by side, but I can't see much difference on my laptop screen where I have to scroll all the samples up and down to compare.

The new lens might have some improved coatings as well, it seems to let more light pass through at the same aperture. Or maybe Pentax should call it DAL 35/2.2? It's just a number, you won't see any difference during actual use though.

Anyway, I guess you won't see much difference between the FA35 and DAL35 during actual shooting, the A35 is probably too old to compare w/ the new lenses, DA35macro is truly one of the best lens in sharpness and resolution test. But when shooting at a subject some distance away, it's not the best lens out there.

I'm glad that Pentax released such a reasonably priced little lens with very good optical quality. Hope we'd see some similar 50/85mm lenses in the future.

Oh btw, big thanks to Clicker for upgrading my photobucket account to a pro one without my knowing it, otherwise we won't be able to see these sample photos but the 'bandwidth exceed' sign.

Some thoughts after a week of varied K-5 use

I put much more credibility in practical testamonies such as this than in so-called scientific reviews of questionable methods, so I appreciate your post.
I'm still pleased with my K20D and have learned to work around its limitations just fine, but I must admit the K5 has me excited. It appears to be a vast improvement in every respect over both the K20D and K7.
I evaluate equipment from a pragmatic, bottom-line viewpoint. My need for a K5 isn't great (especially when my bank account is factored in), but my desire for it is rising greatly.
The price, at first, seemed out of line with the Pentax way, but the more I look at it the more it seems it retains that value-for-the-money edge. Pentax not only obviously has outdone itself, but seems to have outdone the competition with the K5.
I may have to wait a year, but I've gotta have one.

Thanks for this!!! Much appreciated!!

There's no way I could get shots like that with my K20D. What's lovely is the ability to run higher shutter speeds in lower light to freeze the action.

I'm putting my Mum on Ebay tomorrow!!! :) :) :)
