At this time Pentax Limited system was probably the smallest solution outside of Leica, which has been struggling (still is) finding a way to make
a good digital camera... I liked it a lot, especially a couple of FA Ltd lenses, the 43mm was my favorite. But the sensor in K7 was not great...
And I've been constantly looking for the "look", I know, very overused and exaggerated, but to me it's important in my photography.
Zeiss and Leica lenses have it, Pentax - less (I think 43 and 77 do :) ). I moved to NEX system where I had a much better sensor
and I could adopt some magical lenses regardless the mount. Now it seems like finally I have this option with the full frame sensor thanks to A7R...

Hi guys, you might remember me, I have been looking for a compact high quality system for a long time.
At some point I owned a complete Pentax + Limited glass setup, this picture is actually showing what I owned,
I took it and somehow it went viral :D
I recently started my site about travel photography and my favorite cameras, you're welcome to check it out: Lenticular Travel, Best photo locations in the word, miles and points,Lenticular Travel
Anyway, my recent favorite travel camera is Sony RX1R. I'm still waiting for the A7R and will for sure report
how I like it with high quality Leica lenses and some other favorite lenses I own. But RX1R is simply pure magic to me.
I took it on my recent Bora Bora trip and ended up using almost exclusively. This is a small set of my favorite shots.

I've always thought Ricoh was one of the most innovative companies out there. Their menu system is still the best.
Their approach is based purely on the photographic needs, not some gimmicky "smile recognition" stuff
or a "famous" designer recycled old cr@p. But they never made any effort to promote their cameras anywhere
and they are simply unknown. Which is BTW not a good sign for Pentax.
Photokina is coming and there are tons of exciting news/rumors about pretty much everybody out there... except Ricoh.
Are their cameras dead? I would love an updated FF mirrorless camera working well with Leica M lenses!
They seemed like one company which could deliver it first... To be honest, an innovative product like that
would make much more noise outside of the remaining Pentax fan base than anything Pentax can come up with.
There are tons of advanced photographers who would kill for such a camera.
It would be a real shame if Ricoh was dead for good...

This whole series is mostly with Leica M 28 Cron and 50 Lux. I think you can tell
which one is which. First image is taken with the new 21 Super-Elmar

I just came back from a great road trip to Oregon coast and Northern California.
A beautiful country, amazingly green. I was hoping for more Rhododendrons,
but came back with a different kind of images :)

Please, any forum, anywhere.

What system is that? Please explain it to me. A system based on the large size DSLR lenses requiring a large camera,
but following the philosophy of a modern camera which doesn't require a large size.
I guess it must be a lot of empty space inside...
Sorry, but that system is heading absolutely nowhere :(
There is ZERO excitement about K01. It will not bring Pentax any new users. The only reason it's mentioned is the weird looking design.
Look how excited people are about the new Olympus. And Fuji. And anything NEX. Are you seeing ANY interest in K01 outside this forum?

I don't think they can win this one. If they made a new mount camera,
people would be complaining about K lenses not being usable...
I think if the camera is modern, has some great features, like amazing MF,
it could be successful. The problem is Pentax s@cks in marketing department,
many people have no idea they make a nice range of small Limited lenses
to use with this. But that could be actually better than the new Fuji IMO.
With a small set of Limited glass, let's say 15, 43 and 77, it could be
a good small system.

OMG, I wasn't expecting someone to really read my post that way! Some people are really fragile...
Absolutely, I mean treating it like any other professional camera.
You read comments like "NEX lenses are huge!" etc which kind of makes it sound like
the system is a P&S toy system, must have the smallest lenses possible etc.
What counts to me is IQ, nothing else. It has the best sensor available today
and a great way to use and focus manual lenses. Works really well with the tilt/touch screen LCD,
very useful for MF. Has the highest quality EVF and LCD.
I simply don't see a better system available today to use a range of manual best lenses.

The only way to save Pentax, and I think it's too late even for this, was to differentiate from other big brands
and promote what Pentax did/does the best - small, high quality lenses - the Limited range
and small, high quality cameras. If they played this card well, they could have been the "mirrorless"
solution 5 years ago. Doesn't matter they don't have FF, it doesn't matter for Sony or Fuji today.
People like small, high quality system. People are tried of the big old same boring DSLRs.
Look how excited everybody is about the new Fuji. Pentax could be such an excitement,
but people simply have no idea Pentax makes high quality small lenses and the smallest good cameras.

Thank you guys. If you treat your NEX seriously, it treats you well too :)
As far as the lenses, JHD, read my previous post, those are my recommendations.
A few more pictures to show you a wide variety of subjects.
I wish the forum bg was black, so much nicer to present photos that way...

Joel, one of the best things about NEX system is that you can pick any existing lens you like
and it will work on your camera. Quite amazing! NEX pushed me to getting
some glass I've always wanted to own, but didn't have a camera to use it easily on.
NEX makes manual focussing a breeze and so much fun!
At the moment most of my pictures are taken with a few Leica R lenses, mostly
28 f2.8 ver2 and 60 macro, a few Zeiss ZK (Pentax mount) lenses, mostly 100 f2 MP and 35 f2,
Voigtlander 125 f2.5 Macro and Contax 35 f1.4

Funny how I got attacked in another thread for saying the same thing.
Their PMA booth is pathetic, nothing on display, a few bored clueless guys sitting by an empty table with
a Ricoh M-mount presented as their flagship product...
A sad Pentax logo behind them. If PMA is meaningless as others told me, why would they even come at all?
To make fools of themselves?
And please stop expecting miracles next month in Japan, or next year in Fresno.
It's over guys, stop lying to yourself, nothing to gain here. Simply look around,
photography is exciting again in 2012, look at Sony, look at Fuji.
It's all about fun and crating great images, why does it have to be such a pain,
lost expectations and lost hopes all the time?

Somehow looking at this thread, NEX-5N is presented as a "support" camera.
But with the best glass this is a very serious tool.
If you are not into sport or birds, it is all you need.

dream on.
PMA and Photokina are/were 2 biggest photography events.
As all the conventions they are becoming less important,
it's not like suddenly PMA only is losing.
Nobody cares about an event in Japan, sorry, but you won't see
anything there, just like this week in Vegas. It's not really that sad
that there is no new products/no news, there is simply no presence.
If you don't care about an event, don't come at all, it would be way better
than put a Pentax logo up there this week next to a table with a few Ricoh
M-modules to touch.

It's not CES, it's PMA 2012! One of two biggest photography conventions in the world.
Sorry, but Pentax is gone, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind.
Nobody even talks about Pentax there anymore, it's Ricoh only, which is unknown anyway...
Their biggest product is the M-module, a support product for the very limited group
of Leica users. So we are talking a very limited product for a very limited group.
And that's their biggest thing on PMA 2012.
Even the strap makers where much more popular. Sad but true.

The future is mirrorless, no doubt. Ricoh could have bought Pentax only for a few patents they were interested in.
There is no value in Pentax brand anymore. They destroyed any hopes by bring the Q.
Ricoh will grab the patents and press the switch.

First you are borderline rude. If this has no interest to you, I don't see why you are here?
Second - I'm positive it's not "one person", there are thousands of people tired by the large DSLR equipment.
They haven't made the move yet, because so far the quality hasn't been nowhere close to the DSLR,
but I'm showing here in this thread that it is available now.
Actually, the NEX-5N with good glass produces better images than both Pentax K5 and Canon 5D II.
It's also a better camera for me because of the way MF is supported.
I'm pretty sure this is interesting to many.

This is a set of images taken with my Zeiss glass yesterday.
I really wish I didn't have to use an adapter...
Again, Pentax could have made this camera.
Now they are stuck with one crop DSLR which not only has to compete
against Canon and Nikon, but also against Sony and other
mirrorless systems. Their R&D money has been spent on Q...
Really hard to see where this brand can go from here.
Anyway my K5 is for sale, if anyone is interested ;)

Update: I'm selling my K5 - decided to go NEX exclusively.
Still gonna use my Pentax mount lenses, Zeiss ZK and a couple of Pentax Limiteds, like them a lot.
But my new NEX-5N is so much better than K5 for manual focusing, it's not even close.
The image quality is very high.
I got the 5N because I didn't want to wait for the NEX-7, but I'm gonna get it as well.
Those little cameras are really great. A few quick shots I took today with my NEX-5N: |

What kind of bs is this?
you have no idea, but it's "clear" and "by a very large margin".
People should be banned for spreading false statements like that.
