Groundloop, the part of this that is so embarassing is that I don't know what mount it is, it doesn't like look like a K mount for sure.

I'm beginning to wonder if its a Nikon F mount lens. The seller knew less about it than I do.

I'll post some pictures.

chse, the lens from you pictures has a silver ring near the base that my lens doesn't have, I hope I can make it work though because your pictures are great!

Vivitar 90MM 2.8 Auto

So I did something of questionable intelligence, not because its probably a poor lens but because I didn't really know what I was buying.

I picked up on ebay for 20 USD a Vivitar 90MM 2.8 Macro Auto, I figured I really couldn't go too wrong but now I don't know how to get it on my K10D or what I need to do to focus the darn thing.

Can anyone help me out? I feel a little silly for jumping on something that I knew so little about.

IGilligan, I think the one I was looking at didn't have the macro collar, would this be hard to obtain? Being as I'm wanting to use it for some macro fun I think it would be important, yes? ;)

It was actually your thread that got me looking at the Vivitar macro lenses, then I found one of the 90MMs for a decent deal and was wondering if it was worth pulling the trigger. Thanks for the response.

Pan Head, or Ball head?

++ on the Acratech ultimate ballhead. It's not cheap but definitely worth it. Mates really well with my Gitzo tripod and its lighter than what you're looking at I believe.

Anyone heard when the Tamron 10-24 will be available? It was announced earlier this month and if anyone knows any rumors about when it will be on the market send them my way. I'm waiting on my UW purchase until I see how this thing works.

How often do you change your setting?

My K10D was having issues with blowing out the highlights in any automatic mode while shooting Bryce Canyon in snow two weekends ago in any automatic mode so I had to leave AV and TAV behind and learn to shoot Manual. I decided I liked the control and its definitely helping me to learn the craft.

Of course because I had to shoot manual and we were walking in out out of shadows I had to be constantly changing settings but it was a good learning experience.

Opinons on the Tamron SP AF14mm f/2.8 Aspherical?

Those are nice, I've heard some negative things in the past about the Pentax and I'd never heard anyone that had the Tamron. I think at this point I'm looking at the 10-20 Sigma.

Anyone ever use the Tamron SP AF14mm f/2.8 Aspherical? Any ideas on the price premium over the PentaxDA Fixed 14mm f/2.8 ED (IF)?

I'm looking for a UW and can't decide on what gives me the best price / performance ratio.

Does that mean that the shoulder strap of that pack is removable or disconnects in some way?

How does that work with a fullsize backpack? Do your shoulderstraps overlap? Are you using the entire Kata system? This seems like it would be the best of the alternatives I've seen because it allows me to use the gear that I've already invested in but I'd like to know more about the ergonomics.

Its nice to hear from another climbing Pentax user, I bought my K10D on the advice of another user of the rockclimbing.com forums.

Thanks for the many many replies.

So I guess the reason no one has replied is that the links to picasa are broken...

Picasa Web Albums - Jed - Uintas will take you to the album, I guess I need to get an imageshack account or something similar, or I am doing something wrong?

Anyway if I could get some criticism on this series I'd appreciate it, I've had my K10D for about 5 months now and feel like I've improved a lot but know that I have a long way to go to respectability.

So after all the Hiking with SLR Gear thread I thought I'd upload some of the photos I took, please help critique what I've upload, they're some of the best from the trip (I think anyway).

I had some hard time getting a focus in the low light and that ruined some my photos with better composition. All are taken with the DA 18-55, are handheld and EXIF data should be intact. If not I know without looking that I used F11 as the aperture on this series.

I don't know if anyone is interested in a great second kit (or first really) but try this:

BuyDig.com has the Pentax K100D Digital SLR Body w/ 18-55mm Lens Kit for $469 - $50 rebate [Exp 7/31] = $419 with free shipping.

Pentax K100D with 18-55mm Lens - BizRate - Compare prices, reviews & buy - Price - Review

Edit: Sorry I guess this should go in the DSLR forum.

I have an FA50/1.4 and its great when I have time to extremely manually zoom (walk closer, walk farther away) but I missed some really great wildlife shots this weekend because I couldn't walk that fast or get that close, so I'm saving for a larger zoom.

But then I'm as new as anyone to this and by no means an expert.
