Yeah. Rolling into Hiroshima, and going to see this really hits reality hard.

I'm in the last decades of my time on this earth, and I realize and should I say, I realized early in life how precious life is. Humanity makes some terrible decisions, and then more terrible decisions before we make some good ones. I wish we could just skip the bad decisions and go straight to the good stuff. Life is too short.

Ok, after getting this error on ALL my Sony cameras...

I figured something must be wrong with my PC.
Sure enough, there was a silent blocking of the update application - no pop-up, just a message on the notifications.

Once I gave the update application permission, things went smoothly and immediately.

I did...and waited a LONG time. Like way longer than when I upgrade a Sony lens. It appears the Monster people are using the same software as Sony uses to upgrade native Sony glass, so not sure how much longer it should take?

Also, not sure if my "Can't continue" message is a "Time-out" or an actual problem.

What Sony body did you use?

In addition to the A7RV and FX3, I have an A6500, A7SII and A7RII.
I could use my husband's ZV-E10 if that matters?

My SII and RII are in the original boxes waiting to be sold, so I don't want to have to go and use them.

Well, no joy for me. :)
I can't seem to update the firmware.
I tried it on my A7RV and my FX3.
It keeps saying unable to do the update.
I tried fresh batteries.
Took the memory cards out.
Tried USB-C and Multi.
No joy.

Hmm.. ya know, the A7RV now can have full time DMF while AF-C or AF-S as well as a distinct mode? Not sure the A7RV is the only one that has this? Yes, I also use the back button focus, as well as mapping zoom etc.

There are a ton of customizations to pretty much do anything you want.

I get it though, its not for everyone.

Wow...I guess your experience with DMF must be on different lenses or bodies?
That is not my experience. Of course it must be selected, just like AF-S, AF-C or MF.
Maybe on lesser camera's viewfinder? DMF is pretty much on all of Sony's cameras, so it might not be as good on some cameras.

Yes, DMF on my little RX100M3 is not very good, but thats' to be expected.

Yeah, I haven't tested everthing out with the adapter and Pentax glass, so not sure DMF works with the adapter since DMF is for Sony lenses which are fly-by-wire.

On Sony glass, yes, DMF is amazing as you can map a button to magnification while focusing all the way to what your body can support. So its amazing to get perfect focus even with the amazing autofocus of modern Sony bodies.

With modern sensors, with their resolution, its amazing to get perfect focus.

While I love my optical viewfinder, DMF function in electronic viewfinders is a game changer to get the most crisp focus you can get from a lens/body combination.

Well, I tried the adapter on the new Sony A7RV/A7R5 and the Sigma 300mm f2/8. Sadly as others have said it won't work, and it didn't. It did try a few times, and ran up the focus hunt on the lens, but no. It was not succesful. I sent a request to the Monster Adapter folks, lets see what happens over there.

So for now, my wonderful Sigma 300mm f/2.8 is not getting used unless I take out one of my Pentax cameras.

Sadly, I have become addicted to DMF mode on Sony cameras, so its rare these days to take out my Pentax cameras. So sad. I know.

Yeah, I'm still here, and a Pentaxian, but hard to take my Pentaxes out with so much Sony gear these days. I think some of my larger legacy glass will find its way onto the marketplace soon...as much as that pains me. Maybe its time to let go of some stuff.

This should be fun. I am getting this adapter and the new A7RV on about the same day. I will try this adapter with the Sigma 300mm F2.8. Hows that for a weird combination!?!

The DJI P3...still a great drone!
I would go to the DroneZone, - FAADroneZone and update all the firmware for the drone from the DJI website and update all the DJI apps.

I still have two P3Ps...they never fly anymore since the P4P and Mavic Air I use.

Enjoy the drone!

Any drone with a 1" sensor is perfect for anything on the web.

Professional media work *requires* some drone capability in some form.
As a pro-pilot as part of my overall media responsibilities, I still get around to doing personal projects.

So go out and fly your drone! Responsibly and with permission(s) of course!

A little personal project I am working with the State of California on.

The media landscape (pardon the pun) is both stills and video. As a Multimedia Architect, I do mostly cinema/video. However, by default, I am expected to be an accomplished photographer. It goes with the territory.

Will all my cameras/drones...the one niche that Pentax fills is a camera that is tough enough to survive out in the field. That is, if a little rain or the elements are part of the shoot. None of my Sony cameras (A7S/FS7/FS5) can handle anything remotely inclement weather. My action cameras are, well, action cameras. My drone cameras, are drone cameras.

With the Pentax cameras I have, they represent "field cameras" because they can go anywhere and do pretty much anything.

With my 645z/K1 I had excellent image quality in my field cameras - yet not acceptable video. The K3 III as an APS-C (super 35mm film) allows me to round out location/field shooting when I am mostly there to take stills.

Without video, I was crippled in not taking a Pentax with me.

Now, FINALLY...I can take one camera if most of the work that day is stills.

Yep. Finally a Pentax dSLR that does at least 1080p/60 and 4K/30...it would have been nice for 4K/60 but that is a dream. A little expensive, sure, but a great field/media camera to use with native Pentax glass. I will be picking one up when they are available.

I so miss having a decent field dSLR...I have been waiting...years.

I got one too.
I wish it came with lens covers and some kind of case.
Also, it would have been good for the cell-phone holder to also have a 1/4-20" thread somewhere.

Waiting on the new K3 III and I stumbled on this little guy.
Its on Amazon, and can be found in the search on the Pentax site, but its not shown anywhere (that I can find) as part of the Pentax current product line.

I've always tried to collect the little Pentax scopes that come out, and this guy got under my radar...until now.

Part of today's setup.
These images will wind their way to the photoshop folks, where they will take them and put them into product catalogues, marketing materials, etc.

Its so funny how "production" photography is often brutish, efficient and part of a larger workflow.
The K3's really did their job today.
I had 5 cameras for this shoot, and about 4 setups through the day.
I'd show more, but they are all pre-production machines taken from our labs.

These boxes that I shot today...will generate billions in the coming years.
For our customers and ourselves.

I will never leave...once a Pentaxian, always one.

Yeah...good to be away from the A7S,A6500, FS5, FS7 and other alphabets for a week or so...then back to the grind.

Yep.

The machines I have to photograph will be taken apart and laid on a table. To get all the views for the technical publications and marketing folks its easier to put the devices on a "lazy susan" and have identical lenses and cameras and settings so that the workflow can move quickly. This way the setup is static and only the hardware that is to be photographed moves.

I can also assure consistent images by keeping the cameras in one location.

Hi everyone. Its been a LONG time since I posted. Its been busy. Life has been mostly cinematography, drones and Sony/DJI/Action camera. There's been a smattering of 645z in there, but not much pure "photography" since I just don't have the time.

Well...as a cinematographer, its assumed that I also do "photography" and I've been tasked with shooting some new product hardware that is coming down the line.

If you know what "Exadata" is, well, then in the next couple of months every image you will see of the new stuff will probably be the result of this photoshoot this week!

So in preparation, batteries are charged, firmware has been updated, settings re-familiarized with and what not.

Handling the cameras again, waves of nostalgia rolled over me, and putting a dSLR back up to my face, and taking pictures with a mirror-based camera again...well...I think the Pentax engineers are 100% right about staying with this.

I'm a Pentaxian for sure, but its been WAY too long that I have not held some of my other "still" cameras and stepped away from making cinema or video.

Wow. Just wanted to share a bit. Now I can't wait to buy the new Pentax when it comes out!

With product photography, many cameras will be setup so that I don't have to move the product much after its in position. So all K3 cameras on deck!
