While I love my K200D, the new Canon T2i sounds very good and the price is awesome! I'm wanting to get the K7, but it's the same price as the new Canon T2i. there's a new camera coming out all the time....

Well, I think I'm gonna switch brands. While I am a lover and grand supporter of all things Pentax (I own coffee mugs and pens...LOL), the new Canon T2i body w/ 1080p/18mp and excellent metering system for $799 body is calling my name. that's a great price. The K-7 hasn't come down enough yet, so by the time it drops CanNik will have released 2 more bodies probably w/ new technology. Although I don't need all that techy stuff since a photography is not necessarily about the piece you use to photograph.

I want to buy this camera, but it just seems so small. NOt that my hands are huge, but I don't want a "toy"camera in my hands. But the price of this camera is just lovely by comparison to the K7

I have to say, this is keeping me from buying this camera. All the great reviews and it just lacks some of the things that I fell in love w/ on my K200D. The grip on the K200D makes it a beast! Also, the size of the KX seems way 2 small for me. I guess I'll keep saving up until I can get my hands on a K7.:D

I agree. The silouhette is of a 645D, and nothing else.

Ok, I'm one who doesn't even shoot w/ high ISO ever! I have almost never shot over 400ISO w/ my K200D. Because I use studio lighting, I haven't had the need to go 400ISO or above. With that in mind, would not the K-7 be the better choice or a K-20?

You're right. The color combo was lens/body, not body/grip. Thanks for your reply and to all the others that chimed in. It gave me a good perspective on where the K-x enters the market from. There is one question though.....the K200D was the "entry" Pentax back in 2008 and it had the optional grip, so why not the K-x following suit apart from the "entry level, I don't need a grip" crowd?
BTW, thanks for the compliment on the site images----and yes they were taken w/ my K200D. :)

Currently I shoot with the K200D, w/ a battery grip. I love the battery grip added to the body. For me, I prefer weight with my cameras, which the new design of the K-x I'm a little weary about. I don't want a toy camera like the D40/D60 by Nikon or Canon Rebels. What attracted me to Pentax's cameras were the build quality. However, I'm in the mindset to purchase the K-x, but I'm hesitant. Can anyone explain why you can buy in Japan a K-x w/ grip, but not in the USA? I prefer a grip on a small body. Looking @ the bottom of the K-x, it's not designed to have one which concerns me because that means there's not an coming grip addition being manufactured.
It appears I may have to do the K-7, but honestly I prefer the K-x because of price and all of the great things I keep reading about it. So does anyone know why a K-x body w/ grip is not available in the US?

I can't leave the Pentax brand. I recently did a shoot using my newly acquired 50-200 smc DA Lens, and I could not believe the clarity! The guy that I assist he uses a 5D Mk II and his pics are very clean w/ tons of detail. I purchased this new lens, used it on my K200D and then viewed the pics in Lightroom---- I was amazed. They were so clean and crisp.....no post production.
Previously I was shooting using a Sigma lens, but it was awful in terms of sharpness. I had no idea I would notice such a big difference w/ the Pentax lens!
Therefore, for me, being a Portrait/Fashion photographer, I don't see the need to switch systems. I am literally happy w/ what I have and now even happier since I have the new lens.

I just finished a photoshoot today and I have to say, I am very impressed w/ the K200D w/ DA 50-200 lens! When the shoot was over, I reviewed the images, and they are crisp and clean. I've had this camera for just over a year now and I cannot be happier. Yes, I do want the K7 or KX, but unless the KX gets a battery grip, I'm not buying it.
One thing I really love about my K200 is the feel and weight. I have the battery grip w/ it, and when that's attached it has a great feel to it. My Eneloop batteries last a long time and got me thru the shoot today. I always have my Energizer rechargeables in the grip, but barely ever have to use them (BTW, those don't last very long). Furthermore, the image quality was simply amazing. I must post some after post processing.
Yes, I do want to "upgrade" to the K7, but this K200D is really doing me some justice right about now.

Yeah, that was more funny than offensive. The lyrics were good, the video was clean, and the way that last verse was flowing in the song, it made sense to say Pentax. The stress of the consonants alone were perfect.... Pentax sounded better than Sony or Oly or Fuji. Was it a big diss? Yes. Was it funny? Yes. Does my K200D take kick-butt pictures that my friend w/ his Nikon D200 just can't duplicate. Yep! People and their creative minds take use the viewfinder to show what they see. I could use a large format and do the same, just a different process.

Yeah, I read this a while back and was impressed. The only thing though is that Consumer Reports doesn't necessarily give detailed reports like dpreview, but generic overall tidbit info. Nevertheless, it's not bad publicity. As a K200D owner, I'm proud of my piece and it does great work. The buffer is slack, but overall, the performance is great. Check out my site or flickr page.
My next purchase will be the K-x or K7. I want the K7 but the K-x is better in my financial reach right now. :)

I believe they are doing more adverts. Both Digital Photo Pro and my other photo mag has K7 ads in them and on the back.

I would simply use the Layers Adjustment (Black and White). I love the control it gives me when I change my portraits to B&W.

My first DSLR was an *istDL back in 06. Well, after I saw the K20 and K200 come out, I knew that I wanted to upgrade. After much research, I purchased the K200.
I absolutely love this camera. I purchased it directly from Pentax since I used to work in a camera store and with this transaction I got a great deal, along w/ a sling bag and grip.
First off, the kit lens is awesome. It is one of the sharpest kit lens you can get. I was so amazed at the quality and clarity of each shot. In addition, the functions and menus are excellent. I do mostly studio work, so I don't have an issue w/ low light focusing. |

I have to admit...I'm a person who likes to show off their red/black Pentax Neoprene ebay strap. I also have a branded Pentax slingbag, which I love. The thing about it is that all those w/ the Canon/Nikon close their mouths and ask me how did I get that shot after they see my work. I agree.....once the shutter flies open, what did you do beforehand as a photographer to ensure a great shot ? You can shoot all day w/ a Mark III, but if you don't know what you're doing before you snap the shutter, the image will look like crap!
Pentax all day!

Hello Fellow Pentaxians,
I am excited to see so many Pentaxians still strutting their stuff all over the blogs. I myself am an up and coming professional Fashion/Lifestyle photographer who works exclusively w/ Pentax bodies. Currently I own the K200D, but am awaiting the day I can get the K7. Every time I see that camera in an advertisement I get all giddy.
You can see my work @ James Penn Photography Site or on flickr @ Pentaxian210's Photostream.
