To use UV filters or Not to use UV filters?HELP NEEDED

Most of the time you would not need to use the more commonly purchased filters indoors, however there are as always in photography some magical effects to be had by using filters if you think out side of the box.
look at what are available for your lenses and think what effect they might have indoors, re. warming and cooling colour filters immediately come to mind as well as the star burst type etc etc,
always remember there is much more satisfaction in getting an affect "in camera" rather than in some software application afterwards.
as my better half once said any one [well she was not quite that polite] can use a mouse, but it takes imagination to use a filter"

K3 Studio tethering

I had a reply from DNA software in the full version it downloads raw and jpegs to a user created folder on the PC and shows the normal editable images in lightroom, you can also via the lightroom display adjust settings and take images as you still can on the camera.
No K3 compatibility but every other model however, so my original post when I started this post is still answered, for all of it being a flag ship model you can't do studio tethering, unbelievable realy.

Difference between -> P and P Line

P mode on the dial = camera decides best shutter speed / aperture /ISO [if on auto ISO range] combination combination at the time of pressing the shutter button to activate the light meter.call this condition A

In P mode [unlike the Green mode on the dial] the aforementioned parameters can be altered via dials by the user. call this condition B

pressing the green button returns the camera setting to A from user setting B

The green button when pressed in P mode returns the camera to condition A and in the menu you have a choice of what preference is given to this auto setting, speed or aperture priority and other settings see page 102 in th K manual.

what all this means is if you like to have shutter speed as your priority because you are doing action shots then if you have set that in the Program line, you will get this by pressing the green button in P Mode. if you suddenly need aperture for d.o.f reason IN P mode you adjust the dial to get this and the speed alter to follow the new aperture, once finished and back to action shots you press green and the camera goes back to speed priority for that light reading

hope that helps

All things are interconnected ,the randomness of interconnectivity cannot be ignored the fundamental interconnectedness of all things is what drives the world.
I strongly suggest you search out and read Adams books on the Holistic detective agency and keep a eye out for this excellent and thought provoking tv adaptation of the excelent books.
Tip
Read the books first.

Depends on what or who the image is for.
I have spent 4 hours retouching one image for an ad campaign and 20 hrs plus on creating a composite image from several shots to sell as digital art but normally to about 3 minutes max per image for the bulk of a shots at at a wedding or quick pre selection from a fashion or commercial shoot

Personally I regard anyone who just posts rtfm as as rude person and actually lacking in forum etiquette , if that's all you have to offer why bother to reply?

Any way those who took the trouble to reply with information, and having as a result realised that the rear curtain setup in body only applies to the built in flash, and having experimented I have now got the two remote flash heads to trigger as rear curtain sync using either the pop up set to rear or the metz flash set to rear, providing , of course, the remote flash units can "see" the on board flash it all works well.

Very important , the model should be as close as possible to being parallel with the sensor /film to avoi keystone effect. If you are on the floor shooting up the model need to lean forward slightly to compensate,
It looks weird but does not on the image

Implications of Consciousness after Decapitation - Do you really stay conscious after being decapitated?
And
The answer, horribly, is 'Not only is it possible, but it's medically proven.' Debate on the subject raged ever since Charlotte Corday -- the assassin of Jean-Paul Marat -- was guillotined in 1793. The executioner's assistant, Francois le Gros, lifted her head by the hair, and slapped it on both cheeks. Eyewitnesses reported that the face took on an angry expression, and the cheeks visibly flushed. The debate was started -- if guillotining didn't produce instant death, then it wasn't a 'quick and merciful end', as promised by the post-Enlightenment revolutionaries. In 1794, German surgeon Dr S. T. Sommering argued in the Parisian newspapers that 'consciousness of feeling may persist [in a severed head] even if blood circulation is terminated, partial or weak [...] the head's strongest sensation would be the after-pain felt in the neck.' French doctors argued that he was confusing nervous spasms with sensory perceptions and voluntary motion. Little research was conducted on the subject, however, until the turn of the twentieth century, when another French doctor, Beaurieux, was permitted to make an investigation of a severed head, of a criminal called Languille, immediately after guillotining: "Here is what I was able to note immediately after the decapitation: the eyelids and lips of the decapitated man worked in irregularly rhythmic contractions for about 4 or 6 seconds. I waited several seconds longer. The spasmodic movements ceased. The face relaxed, the lids half-closed in the eyeballs, leaving only the white of the conjunctiva visible, exactly as in the dying whom we have occasion to see every day [...] It was then that I called in a strong, sharp, voice: 'Languille!' I then saw the eyelids slowly lift up, without any spasmodic contraction -- I insist advisedly on this pecularity -- but with an even movement, quite distinct and normal, such as happens in everyday life, with people awakened or torn from their thoughts. Next, Languille's eyes very definitely fixed themselves on mine and the pupils focused themselves. I was not, then, dealing with a vague dull look, without any expression that can be observed any day in dying people to whom one speaks: I was dealing with undeniably living eyes which were looking at me." By 1956, further research had proved, in the words of governemntal advisers Drs Piedelievre and Fournier, that "death [by decapitation] is not instantaneous [...] every vital element survives [...it is] a savage vivisection, followed by a premature burial." The French government abolished execution by decapitation in 1977.

Zeltsman Approach to Traditional Classic Portraiture
I found this resource which for any beginner to photography will be invaluable for years to come.

Read it very carefully and at least twice, even the chapter which was written with film and a wet darkroom is relevant.

This really is a gem and nearly is lost. I would strongly suggest you copy and paste each page in word doc or whatever you use to make a permenant copy because if the web site above shuts down this book is gone for ever.

Zeltsman Apporach to Traditionla Classic Portraiture

edit, I have made a word and pdf copy which I have put in dropbox .

try this link below .to download , Please pass this old mans record of his life work on it should really not be allowed to disappear

Actually any camera will do for what you want , it's the lens and lighting and colour balance you need to pay attention to.
As mentioned a macro will be better ,sometimes, at edge to edge sharpness, but better still is a older full frame telephoto lens as the smaller sensor of any of the Pentax cameras only uses the centre portion thus avoiding any edge softness.
My wife is a framer and I regularly have to photograph clients work. You need to ensure your lighting is even .
I use two studio lights with umberellas at 45 to the art work to avoid glare or reflections.
I use a colour checker pasport to create a profile for each job
I use a old fully manual 100mm m series macro lens but never at close distances
And I process in light room
I should add that if the art work is small enough to fit and not a oil painting I often just scan them on a epson scanner which produces remarkably good reproductions with little very little fiddling with settings.

edit: any tripod and 12 second release and I mount my images on a old music stand , hold in place with non acidic framing mounting tape , which can removed with out damage from the back of the art.
make sure the art work is level and not leaning forward or backwards , use a spirit level,
use the level or live view guides on the camera or if a older one a bubble level that fits in the hot shoe. you can correct of course in LR or PS but its better to get it right first.

is it just me? How many times have you seen something that just caught your eye , stopped dead and tried to capture it only to find it does not work, mostly due to the perspective difference between what we see and what a lens can capture, if the front to back perspective is right the the edge to edge is to small and vice versa that what i find, but I like this Miksang idea and will investigate further

I have had k100d, K10d, Km,Kr,K5,K30, extra K5 body, and K5IIs, I have never used or tried the video.

If was interested I would buy a video camera.

They could also remove all the menu choices and infact any thing to do with jpegs as well apart from the rear screen preview, as I only shoot raw and never use the shadow or highlight adjustments or HDR or any of that stuff.

It would make for a easier to use and probably cheaper camera.

As Steve said I bet this one had been banged on something.
A lens can take a surprising amount of knocks than one day a insignificant knock on a door frame or something can distort the outer turning body and then it gets a stiff spot
I have a tamron f2.8 70-200 that will hand focus right down to the closest it will adjust to, but the auto focus stops short of that point by about 1/2 a foot, due to a hard to feel tight spot

At wedding in the church where you are a long way from the couple and the minister is in the shot and you are using a wide apature and therefore shallow depth of field is a good case in point for this problem.

I zoom in far tighter than I want for the shot and with the back button set to focus and continuous on , focus then zoom out and I find that works 95 % of the time.

I have shot dozens of weddings with 2 x k 5 bodies and assorted lenses and there are always a few that are out. If thy are critical add some grain and b/w them and often that will make them acceptable.

It's surprising that what we think is a reject image due to your problem the couple are happy to accept. I normally dump them out of professional pride but for a collage page in a album where they are small images they often also can be usable.

Not that I know of, and I agree that version 3 and 4 did a pretty good job of getting a image about right for you to than fine tune.
I find that v5 constantly moves the exposure slider to the right by over a stop so I have to zero it and use the brightness slider instead after using the auto function.
