I had used two different flashlights and performed it on several lenses, including the HD DA 20-40mm Limited. None of the other lens had that hazy appearance. I then received another copy of the 15mm Limited and it displays the same hazy condition as the first one! I don't know - maybe being an ultra wide angle lens has something to do with it?
I will try to get out and take many photos to see if there are any problems.

Thanks to all for confirming the need to return the lens. Fingers crosssed that round 2 will have no issues!

I just purchased a new 15mm Limited lens from Adorama. I was surprised at what I saw when shining a flashlight through the lens. It seems to me that the inside lens surface or surfaces are hazy.
Here is a photo of what I am worried about. Is this normal!?

I had to connect my KP to my PC with a USB cable to copy the update file onto the SD card. The firmware update performed correctly.
My question is whether anyone was able to copy the update fine onto the SD card by inserting the card into a PC or laptop. My PC and laptop (both windows 10) would not copy the file onto the SD card stating that the card was write protected. Yes, the slider on the SD card was in the unlock position.
Anyhow, I did get my camera updated, but I would like to know why the SD card seems to only be writable while in the camera.
Thanks for any help!

Can anyone confirm that you only get the small grip when you purchase direct from Ricoh?

i'll take it at your asking price. I am also interested in the Pentax M42 to K adapter. Please let me know if one or both are still available so I can complete the transaction.
Thanks,
Greg

I have also been thinking of getting a sling strap where the strap attaches to the camera tripod mount. I noticed two types of attachment schemes: 1) the strap fastens directly to the lug in the tripod mount; 2) the strap fastens to a small rectangular plate that is fastened to the tripod mount.
Does anyone know the pros & cons of these two different designs?
Thanks

Reviving an old post here.
During a short Spring Break trip to Panama City last weekend, I was surprised to discovered that my smc PENTAX-A ZOOM 70-210mm F4 would no longer focus to infinity. After returning home I found this post. It was precisely the problem with my lens. Three of the four mentioned screws under the rubber focus grip were not tight.
Note: to get my lens set a infinity I turned the focus ring as far as it would go to infinity (i.e. infinity symbol lined up with the focus line) and then had to rotate the inner barrel (in front of the focus ring, under the built-in lens hood) to reach focus at infinity. The four screws were then tightened. Attachment 215900Attachment 215901 |

HockeyDad, thanks for doing that test. I wish my K10D worked like that! Could the discrepancy with the K30 manual be due to this feature being added via a firmware update?

Could you please explain this further. Are you saying that there is some other way to to do stop down metering on the K-5 other than using the Green button? My only experience is with a K10D.

dms is correct, the K10D does not allow e.v. bias in the M mode. I agree that you would be better served to select a "newer" camera with this feature for use with your non A lens.

Yeah, bad habit. I probably tap or shake everything I pick up. :)
Despite the feedback, my curiosity got the best of me. As Adam noted, the rattle is from the aperture lever mechanism. It uses a ball bearing design of 6 balls loosely spaced/separated by the use of metal bars which act like a bearing cage. The free play in this bearing is what creates the rattle noise. It all seems very well made!

I bought a Vivitar 70-150mm f3.8 Close Focusing Auto Zoom in a TX mount. As far as I can tell the lens and adapter are functioning as intended.
The TX adapter rattles when it is shaken; whether mounted on the lens or alone. Is this rattle sound normal?
This is my first experience with a TX mount and I would rather not disassemble it if not necessary.
Thank you for any insight.

I had not heard this before. I had wondered why some lens created very smooth bokeh while others were very hectic looking. Does the lens arrangement/design also play a part?
It seems weird that lens makers gave up this really creamy OOF area in order to place the aperture at the rear of the lens ( I suppose, to more easily communicate its position to the camera body? ).

I recently got my first preset lens!! - a Tele-Takumar 300mm f6.3. I'm just learning to use it on my K10D. It certainly is much smaller and lighter than my K 300mm f4!
In taking a series of photos of the same subject while stepping down the aperture from one shot to the next, the shutter speed no longer slows down after I get to f8 or f11. For instance I could have a shutter speed of 1/250 for the same shots taken at f11, f16, or f22. The image at f22, 1/250 will be as bright as the one taken at f11, 1/250 ( ISO held constant ). The image in the viewfinder is clearly getting darker as I shrink the aperture so I'm sure the blades are working. I am using Av mode with Center-Weighted metering. I have not noticed this occurring with other lens.
Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Radio Shack has a DIY project to make an intervalometer. Here is a link to the project Intervalometer | The Great Create
I have not looked closely at it and do not know the cost of the components. Looks like a neat project and I wanted to share it here.

I picked up else where in this forum that if you are using M42 lens you might as well shoot in Av mode for the following reasons:
1) In M mode my K10D will only use spot or center weighted metering. In Av mode the multi-segment metering is also available.
2) Also, in Av mode I can use the exposure compensation feature to dial in correct exposure for a particular lens/aperture. If I'm in M mode, I need to use a control wheel to adjust the shutter speed +/- after pushing the green button in order to obtain exposure compensation.
I find the real time exposure metering in Av mode with a m42 lens more convenient than using M mode with a K or M series lens, but that convenience disappears when you are shooting with a smaller apertures because the view finder gets too dark to focus. You are then forced to open up the aperture to focus and close it back down to shoot-Yuk!

Could you supply a few photos of the Vivitar 70-150mm F3.8? Is the lens multi-coated and free of scratches/fungus?
Thanks, |
